Stew is Where It’s At

December 19, 2011 by Julie 31 Comments

I’m so glad you guys enjoyed Kat’s wonderful guest post this afternoon. I figured we could use a little Hanukkah love up in here!

I spent the day writing away in hopes of having absolutely no work to do at the end of the week.

I also did a few blog updates:

  • Check out the reorganized Workouts page! I took some time to categorize my favorite strength and circuit workouts for those of you who requested that I divide up the workouts a bit so you can quickly visit the page to find the workout that you’re after.
  • The Books page was updated with the most recent Book Club reviews.
  • All of my previous Blog Talk Tuesdays posts may now be found on my Blogging page.

I think that’s it for the PBF housekeeping updates!

Dinner

Leftovers to the rescue!

beef stew 104-1

Tonight’s dinner was incredibly easy thanks to leftovers from last night’s dinner.

Before we left on our hike yesterday, I threw all of the ingredients for a homemade French onion beef stew in the crock pot. I followed a recipe from Woman’s Day magazine after it sparked my interest when I saw that it called for apple juice as part of the broth.

Tonight I simply reheated the stew and we dug in!

While I adore soup, stew is where it’s at in the winter. Thick and hearty – perfect for a chilly night.

Dessert

Dessert this evening came courtesy of a Foodzie box that arrived in the mail last week.

foodzie

Foodzie is an online marketplace where you can learn about and buy food directly from small, high-quality food producers and growers and even subscribe to monthly tasting boxes. I’ve previously tried a Foodzie box and loved it, so I jumped at the chance to sample the Cookies & Sweets box this month.

The box included chocolate, hazelnut butter, cinnamon, dried cherries and more!

I made a batch of granola with the dried cherries this evening and snacked on a couple of pieces of the almond brittle for dessert.

beef stew 116-1

reindeer cupcakes 009-1

Both were winners.

Off to hang with Ryan and Sadie!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

One time, during law school, one of my now fiance’s roommates made a beef stew. The potatoes and carrots were so undercooked, hard as rocks, and everyone called it a “stewart.” Well, last night, I made my first stewart. I totally didn’t cook it long enough and while the meat was perfect, my veggies were hard. Major fail!

i agree, you gotta love a hearty stew! making it in the crockpot makes it even better because it’s easy and the ingredients all soak up the flavor even more.

what a perfect combo of treats in your Foodzie box you got!

That’s “crack” brittle! I live in San Francisco, where it seems like a lot of the Foodzie items come from (which is why I’ve never subscribed… I can get it all at the Ferry Building for the most part!) and every Saturday at the Ferry Building farmer’s market, they hand out that almond brittle. They hand out samples because they KNOW that once you eat it, you’ll buy it! They totally caught my mom and little sister when they visited, so I’m sending them some for Christmas 🙂

This is unrelated, but I must say that I finished The Violets of March and it was AWESOME. I got really into it. Sarah Jio (sp?) does a great job getting you invested. I even talked my boyfriend into reading it and he really liked it too!
