Return to The Artisanal Dish

March 11, 2012 by Julie 43 Comments

Weekends with Leslie and Ross are always so much fun!

IMG_0006-2

My sister and her boyfriend are the perfect couple to hang out with me and Ryan because our little foursome seems to have the exact same interests and sense of humor.

Lunch

Leslie, Ross and Ross’ adorable chocolate lab, Kona, arrived at our house in Ocala around lunchtime yesterday.

Since we were all hungry, Leslie and I set up a a little make-your-own sandwich buffet.

DSC_3382-1

I made myself a turkey and cheese sandwich on a toasted English muffin.

DSC_3386

Perfect fuel for a hike!

My sister really wanted to check out our local hiking trails and since Sadie and Kona were practically bursting with energy, we loaded up the car and drove out to conquer a five-mile loop.

IMG_0001-2

IMG_0003-2

The dogs were in heaven!

IMG_0002-2

Hi Kona! (I still picture her as the adorable little puppy that came to our UCF game day party! Such a cutie pie. She was smaller than Sadie!)

Sadie was feeling less photogenic than Kona (and apparently a lot more rigor mortis)…

IMG_0005-2

We have such a nut job on our hands…

IMG_0007-2

I think someone was campaigning hard to be the favorite yesterday, huh? Daddy 2012!

Our hike took us slightly less than two hours and flew by.

IMG_0008-2

After driving home, relaxing for a bit and changing our clothes, it was time to head out to dinner.

Dinner

Ryan had the idea to bring Leslie and Ross to The Artisanal Dish, the restaurant we fell in love with during our February date night.

IMG_0016-2

We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded good!

While we waited for our food to come out, we browsed around the store.

Check it out!

IMG_0014-2

Julie’s organic ice cream. We’re a match made in heaven. Smile

Before sitting down at our table, we selected some fun drinks to enjoy.

IMG_0015-2

I fell in love with Ayala’s herb-infused sparkling water the last time we were there, so I had no problem quickly selecting the lemongrass mint vanilla water to try this time. So good.

The guys opted for beer!

IMG_0017-2

IMG_0018-2

I had a sip, thinking I might join them but *bleh* this beer was not my style. The guys loved it though!

For my entrée I order the same scallop salad I ordered last time and shared a pizza with Ryan.

IMG_0020-2

IMG_0019-2

Everyone loved their meals!

On our way home, we passed a field with this bad boy…

IMG_0026-2

Naturally we pulled over to say hello. Crazy, huh? Just another day in Ocala, my friends.

He ended up walking right up to the fence which was a little unnerving. We all jumped back when he swung his horns around after he realized we didn’t have any food. Pretty intense!

Before heading home, we made a pit-stop at Dairy Queen for Blizzards for dessert. I forgot my camera in the car after taking a picture of the bull, but Ryan and I shared a mint Oreo Blizzard (my first time trying a mint Blizzard) and it was fantastic. Highly recommended!

Now everyone is slowly waking up this morning and we have a relaxing Sunday planned that is kicking off with an early-morning church service.

See ya in a bit!

Oh wow, your family and your sister’s family are very, VERY alike! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ayala’s in stores but I’m going to look out for it now that you’ve mentioned it because the flavour you had sounds delicious. I think I’d have gone for the scallop salad you had as well – I <3 scallops! 🙂 Have a lovely Sunday Julie!

Haha, I love that Sadie picture. My dog always seems to know when I want to take a picture of him and does something weird. It’s almost like he does it on purpose. . . .

Julie, totally random but I’m thinking of getting a garmin. Would you recommend 305? A lot of people I’ve asked are happy with theirs but thought I’d ask here too as it’s a lot of money. Is it accurate calorie and distance wise? xx

I was going to ask the same question about the Garmin. I’m thinking of getting one, but want to make sure it’s worth the money and accurate.

I have the Garmin 205 which is a bit cheaper, and I absolutely love it! Can’t go on a run without it! If you’re looking for a cheaper option, the 205 is great. The only major difference is the 305 has the heart rate monitor feature with it, which the 205 doesn’t… not sure what your wishes are, but I don’t monitor my heart rate, and so the 205 is great! Just gives you your pacing information.

Mint oreo is the BEST! That’s my go-to Blizzard! I remember when they first came out with them (I think like 5ish years ago?), I was so worried it was a limited time only deal. Thankfully I was wrong!

Love that they drank Rouge. I live in Portland and since Rouge is brewed in Oregon we frequent their brew pubs. FYI if you become “Rouge Nation” members you get free beer on your birthday. Oh and my fave blizzard is butterfinger with additional Reeses PB cups (never say half and half, they’re too stingy so just pay for the additional 2nd topping). Highly recommend it.

And Rogue beer is gooood! I’ve been up to the Rogue Brewery in Oregon, during a rafting trip when we rafted class IV rapids in the Rogue River! Great time!

I love Rogue beer (especially their Dead Guy ale), but a barley-wine style beer might not be your best bet if you are just getting into beer. I’ve tried Ayala’s ginger lemon peel flavor before and really liked it.
