Salmon Girl

May 1, 2012 by Julie 38 Comments

I totally forgot to mention that the Fashion page was updated yesterday with the information about the dresses from our first day of cruising. I made sure to include my sister’s dresses in the roundup as well for those who requested the details.

Dinner

At the grocery store last night, I filled my cart with the typical fare and hit up the seafood counter to grab some fresh fish.

“It’s the salmon girl,” the woman behind the counter said to me.

Apparently my tendency to bypass all other types of fish in favor of salmon is becoming rather predictable.

I promised the lady that I would buy halibut and tuna all the time if it weren’t so dang expensive!

Plus, I just love salmon so much. No other fish is as flavorful and decadent. Ryan used to think salmon was “only okay” and now he says he looks forward to eating it every week.

Since it’s ridiculously easy to make, I find myself gravitating toward broiled salmon on nights when I’m just not in the mood to put much effort into dinner.

After tonight’s dinner, Ryan and I took Sadie on her typical evening walk.

sadie

It’s getting hotter and hotter in Florida and I fear the glorious temperate weather is now behind us.

Sadie was already pulling toward the shade on our walk. It takes her a while to adjust to the warmer temperatures but once she does, her craziness resumes in full force.

Off to hang with my little family! Enjoy the night!

Such a great pic of Sadie – love the tongue! I’ve always hated salmon – too fishy for me, but I recently had some in an asian marinade that I almost enjoyed. I’m getting there!

Sometime could you share tips on how you cook multiple things in the oven when they cook at different settings & temperatures (i.e. broiling salmon and also roasting green beans)? Thanks!

I have never tried Salmon and am scared to. I have always stuck with Tilapia and Cod. I need to suck it up and try it. There are worse things to be called 😉

BTW – INSURGENT was released today (sequel to Divergent). Can this be the June book reading 😉

I used to think fish was so intimidating to cook, until I prepared salmon with just olive oil, salt, and pepper…it was so delicious and cooked up in no time! Sadie looks so happy in that picture…our Kona has been pulling into the shade too…we’re already into the 90s in Vegas!

I couldn’t agree with you more on the salmon. The only fish that might take reign over salmon for me would be Sea Bass but that is a small fortune and we usually only save that for special occasions. Salmon is just so reliably delicious and reasonably priced.

Love that. Crazy tongue on Sadie. Hilarious!

I love pickerel! (And I can get it “caught fresh today” where I live!) (I think Americans call it Wall-eye)
Hubby is partial to perch (which we can also get “caught fresh today”!)

… We would both live on salmon, lobster and crab if we could afford it!!! (We’re too far from an ocean!)

I love your blue plate. I just read tonight that eating off a blue plate helps with your hunger whereas eating off a red plate makes you hungrier. I dont know if it’s true, but I still plan on buying a blue plate!

I’ve never had salmon but I know I should try it! Do you dip it in anything or top it with something? Or just eat it plain/seasoned?

Salmon is definitely my favorite- although ahi tuna is an extremely close second! Unfortunately cooking any type of fish makes my entire dorm building stink, so I have been pretty much banned from cooking it- boo!

I always bought/ate salmon for it’s health benefits, but never really loved it until I ate it with BBQ sauce. Now I can’t get enough of it! We eat it ate least 2-3 times a month.

Sadie needs some Orbit, because she has a dirty mouth! Do you find she eats less in the heat of summer? My dog usually gobbles up her food before I even walk away, but lately she hasn’t had much of an appetite.
