Okie Dokie Hike

August 25, 2012 by Julie 41 Comments

Temperatures today are stuck in the mid-80s which is quite a nice little breather from the excessive heat for the Okie Dokies.

When Ryan and I moved to Ocala from Orlando last year we tossed around different names for our fellow Ocala folks. Though “Ocalan” is probably correct, we decided that was way too lame and brainstormed a few different names like “Ocalites” before finally settling on Okie Dokies. Do you guys have a random nickname for yourselves and those who live in your city or town? We can’t be the only ones who do this…

When I lived in Palatine, Illinois as a kid, we were “Palatinians” which always sounded so goofy to me.

Anyway, with the somewhat cooler temperatures outside, we figured a short hike with Sadie would be bearable and took her to the nearby trails for a three-mile trek through the forest.

Sadie is always the best part of any Fagan family picture. She’s ridiculous.

Apparently it was deer day in the woods because we saw three different small herds of deer on our hike.

Once we arrived back home and took a much-needed shower, it was time for lunch.

Lunch

I cooked up a batch of my lean meatballs, but made them a little bigger than usual so they would be perfect for meatball subs.

I used all the marinara sauce we had on hand last night when I made Elaine’s eggplant rollatini so unfortunately I didn’t have any sauce for on my sub. At least it was still tasty topped with parmesan cheese!

Time to start getting ready for Taste of the Nation this evening! Orlando, here we come!

P.S. I will definitely record Ryan doing his box jumps for you guys soon. Your comments on my morning post made me laugh!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m an Okie Dokie, too! I said we were brainstorming names for our fellow Ocala folks (since we are now Ocala folks, too!) and truly apologize if it sounded bitchy in any way. It was just meant to be a silly nickname.

I haven’t made up any random names, but Austin is known for being “weird” so there are tons of tie-dye T-Shirts and bumper stickers worn by most of the city with our motto “Keep Austin Weird”. I love it!

I have recently discovered Chicken Meatballs at Trader Joe’s. Do you have Trader Joe’s there? I use in them in everything! Meatball sandwich, sliced up on a pizza, mixed with scrambled egg whites, chopped up in a salad, mixed with brown rice and seemed veggies, and on and on and on……..

    🙂

Okie Dokies – thats too funny. I’ve always wondered what people from Lousiana were called. Being from Virginia, I’m a virginian, so i thought they would be Lousian-ian – pronounced – Lou-E-Z-ANA-Inian. Its just fun to say too !

Okie Dokies? Haha, love that! We don’t do that too much where we live… we do call people by their school mascot, though. My neighborhood school was the WARRIORS! 🙂

Sadie is too funny! If we picked up my dog for pictures, he’d put on his pathetic, poor-me face. He HATES to be picked up… he’s such a little spoiled brat (I say that out of love)!

I live in Michigan– all sorts of strange nicknames around here. Not quite the same as city, but most who are not from around here (I live near Detroit) find it interesting:

The state has an upper & lower peninsula. We call the upper peninsula the “U.P.” So we call it the “U.P.” & we call people that live up there “Yoopers” (aka U.P.-ers).

People that live up there don’t appreciate the nickname, and so anyone that lives below the Mackinack bridge that connects the peninsulas gets called a “troll”.

I don’t think “Okie Dokies” sounds b*tchy at all, btw! It made me giggle, I thought it was cute.

We call ourselves “Grand Forkians” from Grand Forks, North Dakota!

I took us a very long time to come up with that name! We even called the Mayor and Greater Grand Forks Visitors Center to make sure there wasn’t another name!

I agree with Kait!! I think that the nickname Okie Dokies is adorable and not at all b!tchy! (And the name Yoopers is adorable too!)

I’m from the province of Ontario, and when we were younger my brothers and I called ourselves “Ontario-ians” when we were travelling out of province. It’s not as adorable, but trying to pronounce all those vowels in a row is always a fun time! 🙂

Because of you, I kinda want to get a Vizsla pup when I’m older and able to get a pet (my parents aren’t really animal people..). I love how hyper Sadie is and I’m just hoping that most Vizslas are like that.
I swear, I freaked out during a run yesterday and almost screamed “SADIE!!” when I saw a lady walking her Vizsla yesterday. It looked just as sweet as Sadie! 🙂

I live in Seattle, WA and don’t really have a name for people who live here right now. Fun fact, though. I’m Filipino, and we always nickname ourselves as Pinoys. So, Filipinos = Pinoys. 😉

I have several names that I think are funny. I lived in Putnam County, FL for most of my life (if I were still there, we would be county neighbors!) and we came up with the following:

If you are from Palatka, you are a Palatackan.
If you are from Bardin, you are a Bardinite.
If you are from Bostwick, you are a Bostwickian.

I am from Crescent City, but I never gave much thought to what that would make me – until today! So, I think that being that I am from Crescent City, I am therefore a Crescent Civilian. Who knows, maybe it’ll catch on?
