Top 4th of July Destinations

July 2, 2013 by Julie 91 Comments

Good morning!

For those of you who woke up a little too early this morning and are still feeling a little sleepy, I have a cute video to share with you that my sister sent to me. I hope it makes you smile.

Animals are adorable. Ridiculously sleepy animals melt my heart.

When my alarm went off at 4:20 a.m., I was sound asleep. The last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed, but once I got moving, I slowly began to feel more awake. I suppose the coffee I had at the gym after I arrived may have helped.

Today’s work shift has me working from 4:50 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a short reprieve to quickly publish this blog post! Then I plan to eat a quick lunch before it’s time to teach water fitness and work with a client. I’m already dreaming of crawling back into my bed tonight.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was prepared last night.

scrambled eggs

I made myself a batch of scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, spinach and al fresco chicken sausage.

eggs al fresco chicken sausage spinach

Enjoyed in the break room!

Questions of the Morning

  • Will you be going anywhere fun for the 4th of July?
  • Have you ever been to any of the top 10 travel destinations over the 4th of July?

I grew up outside of Chicago but never ventured into the city for the 4th of July until after I moved to Florida! I returned to Chicago with Ryan for a fun 4th of July weekend with friends in the summer one year when I was still in college. It was a blast and is still one of my favorite 4th of July memories!

P.S. I will be selecting the winner of the $100 Reebok gift card giveaway this afternoon, so if you haven’t entered yet, now is your chance!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My guy and I have a date planned at Salty’s, a fresh seafood restaurant on Alki Beach in West Seattle, to watch the fireworks! Across the lake is the Space Needle and the city so we are hoping for a good show…without having to set them off ourselves 🙂

    Have a happy fourth!

Being from Vegas, I’ve spent many a 4th of July in Vegas. D.C. was also kind of neat to spend the holiday when I was living there! I veeeery recently moved to San Diego and I keep hearing on the news that it’s also a top destination for the 4th -surprised it’s not in the top 10 you shared!

That pet video is too cute! I spent one 4th of July in Oahu, it was incredible. I was interning for Sony for the summer and had a fling with a Navy sailor. We went to a smash mouth concert on base and then saw fireworks over the ocean.

I don’t know how you do it, waking up so early! Must be quite an adjustment 🙂

I lived in both New York AND Chicago and was there on the 4th for both. Chicago is just such a summery city so it’s fun to go by the lake and watch the fireworks. In NYC, I lived on the upper east side and was blessed with an amazing rooftop, so that was the spot to watch the fireworks. No way I was tackling that NYC crowd. haha

We don’t celebrate 4th of July here in Australia but I can say I’ve been to Oahu. We went to Hawaii in January this year and loved it 🙂

It is currently 5.45am here and I just woke up and I definitely want to be going back to sleep, so I can totally relate!

A little late for this comment, but I REALLY loved your recap of the fitbloggin. I also read several of the other blogger’s blogs on a daily basis, but really liked yours the best. I thought it was extremely nice of you to mention the other bloggers so much, and give their links.

It was kind of weird seeing several of the bloggers I feel like I know in the same place….kind of like if Frodo hopped in a time machine and had lunch with Harry Potter….so many things I like in one place!!

The only place I’ve been on the list is NYC…many times, as it’s only an hour away from where I live. Never for the 4th though, it’d prob be very difficult to get there b/c of the Macys fireworks show!

I was born and raised in Chicago and after my parents passed away I moved to AZ and have never been back. After my mother was gone my Dad and I would take the Illinois Central to Randolph Street on July 3rd and go to the Taste of Chicago. We would then go to Grant Park get as close to the band shell as possible and save space for all our friends. Our adventure usually started at 10 am and we would get home about 6 am the next day . As everyone got off work they would wander to our spot in the park where we would eat and watch the beautiful fireworks over Lake Michigan. As the Chicago Symphony would play the 1810 Overture the fireworks were set off to the music. Its one of my happiest memories of my Dad. There were over a million people and you never saw a car on the street!
