Sadie’s Halloween Trick

October 31, 2013 by Julie 47 Comments

If you are a pet owner, I am sure you know your pet’s personality inside and out. They have habits and preferences just like people and after five plus years as Sadie’s owners, Ryan and I feel like we have a pretty good grasp on our dog and generally know what to expect.

If Sadie is ever not acting crazy, Ryan and I poke her and try to figure out what’s going on because that is just not normal!

vizsla with ball

We also know her greeting tendencies by heart. For example, Sadie always runs to greet us at the door with a toy in her mouth except for when we arrive home from the gym in the morning. She knows our weekday morning routine and stays in bed until after our workout. Then, when we walk through the door, she waits for us to come love on her and wiggles around on the bed with her tail wagging because she knows it’s time for her walk.

So that’s our routine every morning: Wake up, work out, come home and love on Sadie in our bed.

Well, this morning I went into our room to greet Sadie and she wasn’t there! In the two years we have lived in our house in Ocala this has never happened. Ryan looked at me and said, “Where is she?” We called for her and she didn’t come running which was really weird.

I knew there was no way she got out, so I didn’t spiral into freak out mode, but I was quite concerned and quickly searched the house with Ryan. And then there she was! Tucked under the pile of sheets I stripped off the guest room bed after my sister and her fiancé stayed with us last week.

Sadie loves Leslie and Ross and apparently felt the need to feel close to them this morning and play a little Halloween trick on us. What a stinker.

Workout

Today’s workout was a great one thanks to the Nike Training Club app. I did the advanced endurance master workout from the Get Strong workout category and it was another butt-kicker.

Nike Training Club Get Strong Workout

I am so in love with this app, I can’t even begin to thank you guys enough for recommending it to me! It takes all of the thought out of planning a tough workout and is perfect for days when I just want to follow a program and still be entertained and leave the gym feeling accomplished. Yes!

Once I completed my workout, I received a “reward” from the app in the form of several healthy smoothie recipes. Nike Smoothies

I can’t wait to try the all-veg smoothie. It looks kind of funky, but calls for half of an avocado, so I bet it’s creamy. I’m intrigued!

Breakfast

After looking at pictures of smoothies, a craving ignited and I decided to whip up a smoothie for breakfast.

DSC_0042

Can you tell lots of blueberries were used in that bad boy?

In the mix:

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 handful fresh spinach
  • Enough almond milk to get everything moving

Yum!

Off to work! I need to figure out an idea for a Halloween costume FAST!

Question of the Morning

  • Has your pet ever freaked you out by acting differently or by deviating from their usual routine in some way?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Sadie’s such a cutie! One of our pups did the same thing and when an college roommate of my husbands came to visit. She slept the entire night in the guestroom. I had NO idea and freaked out thinking my husband had let her outside to go to the bathroom and forgot to bring her in!

We recently brought our dog on vacation with us and while we were gone ( for 5 hours) she knocked out a screen and jumped out the window. We got home and no Molly! After tearing up the house we found her asleep in the sun on the back deck. We have no idea if she was out for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Thank God she stuck around and now we know to keep all the windows shut if we go out on vacation!

Aww, that’s sweet but yeah, I would totally freak out if she wasn’t in her usual spot!

I remember when we were first married, we had to replace our dog’s crate and didn’t have the money until the following payday. So to improvise, we gave her the entire area under the stairs (like 4x the size of the crate) but they were surrounded by boxes we had down there so she wouldn’t escape and wreak havoc. To set it up, our dog was a 6 lb Toy Fox Terrier. When we came home from work, she wasn’t under the stairs. We called for her, looked everywhere, started freaking out and I was crying thinking someone had broken in and taken her. I called her once more in the basement and one of the boxes started moving. She’d spent her day digging THROUGH the Christmas box and was stuck halfway through because she didn’t know she could just back out. We got the crate that night.

I used the Nike training app for the the first time yesterday and did the advanced “Edge” workout. Oh my gosh, I did not expect to sweat as much as I did! It was a nice surprise because I’ve had bad luck with workout apps in the past, but you were right about how useful it is. The timer and video explanations for each exercise were so convenient. I love it, too and will be using it often!

Sadie is the cutest! This happened to us around Christmas a couple of years ago. We gated off the Christmas tree between the couch and the loveseat so our pug couldn’t get to it. We came home one night and we couldn’t find him but we could hear him snorting. We followed the snorts and found him stuck in the tree. He dove off of the couch into the tree! Crazy little guy!

I freaked out one time when we couldn’t find one of our cats. They normally come when we call and sometimes if I shake the food they will usually come running as well, but he was no where to be found. It turned out that my mother-in-law was visiting and had accidentally let him out! We opened the door to a cat covered in snow, freezing, I felt so bad!

Also, I downloaded the Nike App yesterday after reading your post and did the Curve Carver workout. It was an awesome/intense workout. I love the app! Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh gosh, whenever my dog didn’t come to greet us or wasn’t in the living room when we’d come home growing up, I’d panic. Every now and again he’d just get in these moods and want to camp out on a couch or chair in the basement, so we obviously always found him, but it still would make me so nervous!

Only to find out somehow she had locked herself in the bathroom!!! so weird. her water bowl is in there and she must have gone in there to get water and somehow the door closed and she probably ended up shutting it all the way trying to get out!! poor thing!! haha

Aww Sadie is too cute for words. Every time you talk about her, I just want a vizla more and more.

I wish that my lab were like Sadie and would wait until after I get my own exercise for his exercise. If we don’t run soon after waking up, he is one whiney pup!

The other day when I got home from being out of town, I stopped home quickly to feed him, and he didn’t eat. He was also grimacing and moping around. The no-eating thing freaked us out so we took him to the vet and turns out he has Lyme’s Disease. Luckily, with a bit of medicine, he’ll be just fine 🙂

I was Snow White for the Disney Princess half, costume was super easy. blue shirt, red bow in the hair, and yellow tulle tutu (i made myself in like 30 min). Or find a colored shirt you have, (pink, yellow, etc) make a tutu that color and be that princess, Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty…kinda of cheezy and girly..but not skanky and very comfortable.
    or
one year I was a panda….white hoodie with paper black ears taped to it, under a blank sweatshirt with a piece of white paper taped to the front of it, and painted my nose and around my eyes black, and wore black pants. I have never gotten so many comments on a “clever” costume before.
I can send you pictures if you are more of a visual person. Both were cheap and comfortable, and fun! =)

My cat Marty was acting very strange and lethargic one day. It sounded like he had a cough stuck in his throat or something…turns out, he has stress-induced asthma and our recent move was too much for him. He’s fine now, but I couldn’t believe how I had a nerdy, asthmatic, stressed out cat. 🙂

Our pets have really specific routines too. Mine (the dog AND the cat) bust down the bathroom door first thing when I get up at 4:30 to say hi. The dog has to petted, leave, come back in and get petted again (usually a couple times) and the cat just stares at me while I do my business and get dressed for the gym. If the dog doesn’t come and greet me I know she probably got into the trash. It’s too funny!

We’ve only had our cat Punkin for about a month so we havent learned all his tendancies yet but he is a funny little cat. At night he goes into our bedroom and lays down to wait for us. Once we join him he hops around like a bunny from mound of fluffy comforter to mound of fluffy comforter. Then after a few minutes of this he lays down and goes to sleep. He does this every night. It’s the cutest thing!

I didn’t get my dog neutered until he was a year and a half. They say that it will calm your dog down quite a bit, but the difference was actually pretty immediate. I kept taking him to the vet because I thought he was having a bad reaction to the surgery! He used to wake me up every single morning at 6:30, but these days, he’ll often sleep until I wake him up! It is actually a good thing, but it still makes me nervous from time to time.

My pup’s usual routine is to follow me around wherever I go! He likes to run around with a toy in excitement after I get home like Sadie, waits for me to get out of the shower in the morning outside of the bathroom door and waits to chew treats until I’m in close proximity to him (can you tell he’s attached? hah).

He is usually a really peaceful sleeper and will sleep as long as I stay in bed, but one night (when I lived alone before I met my fiancé) I woke up with him standing over me growling at the door. Turns out he was growling at nothing, but it totally freaked me out!

Oh God! I have a crazy dog that doesn’t obey me very much 😀 and yes after four years with her you get to know when something is not right. Of course she has tricked us a lot of times. I think that one I’ll never forget was when she ran away in the afternoon and got near a high traffic avenue. My God I was without any shoes and I had to run after her (see she doesn’t obey me, because I’m too soft), everything happened while everyone in the neighborhood was staring at me for my lack of shoes! Ha! after some 15 minutes of desperation I catch her just seconds before she hit the avenue whoosh! I was mad at her for 5 minutes 😀

My dog did something similar once – he would be walked every day at 4pm and one day we couldn’t find him! We looked everywhere and started freaking out. Turns out we were cleaning out the back room of our basement earlier that day, and he had wandered in without our noticing (it’s a big, messy room) and we accidentally closed him in the room! He was totally calm under pressure, and he didn’t make any noise for hours!
