Things I’m Loving Friday #143

July 15, 2016 by Julie 40 Comments

Good morning and Happy Friday! The weekend is upon us and my calendar for the next few days is packed with a combination of quality time with friends (a cookout tonight, lunch date with my girlfriends tomorrow and a baby play date on Sunday) and some much-needed relaxation thrown in the mix between the fun.

It is supposed to be H-O-T this weekend so I’m hoping that all of my time outside will be spent on the lake or poolside. Get me in the water!

I hope you guys have a fun weekend ahead but until we unplug for the next few days, let’s dive into your weekly Things I’m Loving Friday blog post and chat about what we’re loving most this week.

Heeere we go!

Things I’m Loving Friday

  • Chase’s Obsession with Pointing

Chase Pointing

For the past month and a half or so, Chase has become obsessed with pointing. He points at everything all day long and it’s way too cute. Did you just turn on a light? Better point at it. Is Sadie barking? Time to point at her. Mom has freckles on her legs? Thank you, Chase, for pointing at each and every last one.

One of my favorite pointing moments occurred last Thursday when my father-in-law joined me at Gymboree. He preferred to observe the class from behind the wall but his grandson knew exactly where he was and crawled over to Grandad and pointed at him while smiling like crazy.

Chase Pointing at Grandad

It was adorable and lots of back-and-forth pointing between Chase and Grandad ensued.

  • Big Brother

Big Brother 18

I realize this show has been on for years and years but we’ve never watched it until now. Ryan and I randomly started watching this season and as newcomers, I kind of felt like I was watching Joey Tribbiani’s totally whacky trivia show, Bamboozled. There is SO much going on and so many weird twists, challenges and unknowns but a handful of you guys told me to hang in there for at least three episodes on Twitter and now I’m all in. When something out there happens, Ryan and I cannot help but say things like, “Would you like a Wicked Wango card?” because it seems like the producers are pulling things out of left field to throw at the people in the house on this show but I think that’s part of the appeal. Loving Big Brother!

  • La Croix Kiwi Watermelon

La Croix Kiwi Watermelon

My addiction to sparkling water continues and I think I found my new favorite summertime flavor. Though grapefruit and passion fruit are still my La Croix go-tos, the kiwi watermelon flavor is so refreshing and a bit more flavorful than my more mild favorites. It almost has a mocktail feel to it and I love reaching for a can in the afternoon when I want something a little more special than regular water.

  • Strawberry Shortcake Ice Box Cake

Berry Ice Box Cake

Tonight Ryan and I have plans to head over to our friends Lauren and Tony’s house for a cookout and we’re in charge of dessert. I pinned Kristin’s recipe for strawberry shortcake ice box cake a month ago and have been looking for a reason to make it ever since. Well, the occasion finally presented itself and, after buying everything I needed for the no bake cake, I ended up putting the cake together last night since it needs to sit for 6-8 hours. It looks amazing and, as someone who can never have enough whipped cream in her life, I am psyched to face plant into this dessert tonight!

  • Off The Shoulder Tops

It’s official: Off the shoulder tops are everywhere this summer! The look is a casual combination of feminine and breezy and I adore the laid-back bohemian style. Bonus points when the tops have a little bit of lace or crochet thrown in the mix!

Some favorites: Lace Off The Shoulder Top / Bobeau Off The Shoulder Top / Crochet Off The Shoulder Top / Cold Shoulder Tunic / Chambray Off The Shoulder Top

And for any expectant mothers out there, I think this ASOS top is the cutest and it’s only $26!

Definitely want to try that cake!!!! I love the look of off the shoulder tops/dresses but don’t get how to wear them!! Do you wear a bra with them?? I’m not sure that’s an option for me since my chest is extra large due to nursing, not even sure a strapless could work. 🙁

Strapless is the way to go for me (but I don’t have a very large chest) or you could wear a fun strappy bralette!

With no prior knowledge of how they were in their previous seasons, I really like Nicole and James! For the new peeps, Paulie and Paul make me laugh a lot, so I like them, too. And I like Day’s sassiness!

I have been meaning to try those La Croix sparkling waters. Every time I see them in the grocery store I think about buying a 6 pack but then I think about the walk home/carrying them a long way and change my mind. I am intrigued by the watermelon flavor though, I want to check it out!

Ahh! The picture of Chase with your father in law is so precious! That’s great he has such support from both sides of the family. We just got our little island extended into an island/seated breakfast area and love it so much! It’s huge but will accommodate so many friends and family.

Sparkling water is definitely a treat when it’s this hot. I’ve been adding a squeeze of lemon and a few fresh mint leaves with LOTS of ice for a refreshing ‘mocktail’ type of drink!

Your Bamboozled reference from Friends totally made my morning. As a die-hard FRIENDS fan, I very much appreciated this! 🙂 Love that episode and I can totally hear Joey’s voice as I imagine you watching Big Brother. You are just the best, Julie! As a mom of a 7 moth old boy (Henry), your blog is a go-to for me! 🙂

Thank you! The name fits him- just a sweet, classy little dude. 🙂 Unfortunately my husband is not so much a Friends fan so while I still reference it, it falls on deaf ears! If we had another baby, a girl, I’d be so tempted to name her Phoebe as I would love to be able to say ““P as in Phoebe, H as in hoebe, O as in oebe, E as in ebe, B as in b-be, and E as in… ‘ello there, mate!” Alas. Pardon my typos in the first comment…not seeing an “edit” button… I was only half a cup of coffee in! Hope your day is perfection!

We just got back from Raleigh (for 24 hours with the Stanley Cup, hey-ooo), and it is HOT in North Carolina. I couldn’t wait to get into the pool, and I’m not usually a pool person!

Sounds like you have an amazing weekend planned. I can’t wait to see pictures for their little play date. 🙂

Totally with you on the off-the-shoulder trend, too. I’m sharing my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on SemiSweetTooth.com today and I cannot wait to go crazy! (The yellow Cupcakes & Cashmere dress is my favorite. 😉 )

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

I have been watching Big Brother from the beginning and it is definitely one of my favorite reality TV shows (if not my favorite). Beware, it gets seriously addicting! All I have to say for this season is.. Frank’s gotta go!

I’ve actually never seen Big Brother but I’ve heard lots of good/bad reviews of the show so we’ll see.

Something making me happy this week = I’ve had week of doing ‘Productive House Things’ that I have been procrastinating for some time now. That’s always a plus in my book!

    Have fun on the lake!
