Simple or Sha-Zaam?

December 8, 2009 by Julie 24 Comments

This weekend Ryan and I are heading to my parents’ house in St. Pete for more wedding planning.

I have an appointment at a bridal boutique to look for a dress which prompted me to search the internet for examples of what I like.

After my first experience trying on dresses, I found out what I did not like: beading, the “bedazzeled” look and tons and tons of poofy stuff under the dress.

My taste seems to gravitate toward two completely different types of gowns: a simple lace gown or an elaborate ballgown. Simple vs. sha-zaam!

Here are a few examples of the lace dresses I like:

Lace Gown (minus the sash)

(Dresses in the middle and on the right)

And the sha-zaam ballgowns:

Wow-zaa

Pretty

I don’t think any of the above dresses are the dress, but I’m curious as to what you guys like…

Do you prefer simple or sha-zaam? Which dress can you see me in?

Knowing me, I’ll probably end up in a dress nothing like any of theses… something like my mom’s!

Remember that one?

Workout

Today’s workout was true to my normal Tuesday routine: all cardio. I started with 10 minutes on the stair master before walking on a slight incline on the treadmill for five minutes. Then the fun began! I did the treadmill HITT workout I saw on Jessica’s blog for 20 minutes. I worked up quite the sweat! That workout is no joke. It doesn’t seem that hard at first but the last five minutes really got my heart rate pumpin’! I cooled down with 15 more minutes of incline walking. Thanks for the great workout, Jessica!

Breakfast

With the holiday season comes tons of treats and goodies around the office. Fortunately yesterday we got a healthy delivery. Harry and David pears!!!

Harry and David Pear

Anyone who has tried one of these pears can attest to their amazing, juicy flavor. I ate one as a snack yesterday afternoon and packed one up for my breakfast this morning.

Breakfast was a pear sammie consisting of Canadian bacon, Laughing Cow light Swiss cheese and pear slices on a whole wheat Arnold’s sandwich thin.

Open Sammie

This sandwich was awesome and I enjoyed the combination of the sweet and salty flavors. Yum.

Tuesday's Breakfast Sandwich

I had several pear slices leftover and enjoyed them with my breakfast sandwich.

Carba Nada

Sadly not everyone could win my Carba Nada giveaway, but Lisa is hosting one on her blog today. Check it out! These noodles are beyond amazing.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Glad you liked the workout, girl! I LOVE those pears. They are always so good, it is not worth buying any from the grocery store. I really like lace in the dresses, too. It was between a lace one and the one I chose for my wedding. I hated choosing! I want to wear lots of dresses!

Ah, wedding dress shopping…I want to do it again!!!

I got married on the beach, so I didn’t try on any “ballgowny” dresses, but now I wish I had, just for the fun of it!

I love lace wedding gowns– the ones in the pics you’ve posted are so classic and beautiful. I feel like they’re simple without being plain. Lovely!

Ohh the wedding dress hunt. You never like what you expect you will. I went really simple with my gown and thought I would be all jeweled and jazzed up. I really LOVE lace dresses. Mine wasn’t lace, but I think they are gorgeous. They always look elegant and timeless to me. Goodluck with the hunt. Go with your gut!

Lace is MUCH classier and timeless.
You don’t wanna look back one day and say oh gosh why did I wear that!
I got Married February 20th 2009 and wore a dress almost exactly the same as the first picture.

However, My sister in law got married in June and wore one of the poofier ones you used….her and every other bride who’s wedding I was at! Those dresses are WAY over used….. Go with Lace!

I like the ballgown! I think for your wedding you need to go shazam. Of course you are so pretty it won’t matter!

Mmm….have you had Harry and David’s coffee? It’s the best!

    Love the Jim Hjelm 🙂

If you decide to go with a poofier dress, I had a great experience at Robin Lynne’s in Lakeland (it’s half way between Tampa and Orlando so it was perfect for meeting up with my mom and bridesmaid who live in each city). They carry a lot of dresses I never saw anywhere else (just not a lot of lace, but that could be different now) and the prices were really good 🙂

Dress shopping is so much fun, try on things you never know what you might like! The more classic you go the better your pictures will look forever, I have seen some VERY trendy dresses and that will date the pictures right away.

You can never go wrong with a simple wedding dress. I love the white lace one in the middle picture! However, you will look gorgeous in any dress you choose!

I thought I would get some huge ballgown but wound up with a simple dress. My advice is to try on as many as you can. You never know what you’ll fall in love with.

My wedding dress was very simple. I knew as soon as I saw it, it was the one. Plain white, no beading or lace or anything. Strapless and gathered over to one side at the waist. LOVE IT!

I love the simple look and think the silloette is most important. I wore a mermaid dress and LOVED IT! My favorite one is the picture you posted first. I can’t wait to see what you eventually end up picking! How fun!!
