Long Lost Couch

September 4, 2011 by Julie 48 Comments

After an early lunch, our day was dominated by errands.

We started out by dropping off a bunch of our empty moving boxes at the dumpster. The ride there was a bit crowded…

Next up was more furniture shopping!

Couch, Where Are You?

Today’s mission to find a couch was a bit of a bust.

We hit up four different furniture stores and fell in love with three different couches, but something went wrong in the end each time.

1. The couch wouldn’t be in stock in the color we wanted for 12 weeks and we’re not waiting three months for a couch.

2. The couch didn’t have a coordinating loveseat. (I really want a matching set.)

3. The couch wasn’t even available in the color we wanted.

At least laying around on furniture was fun!

IMG_5953

When Ryan and I were testing couches for their “lounge-ability” a fellow shopper asked us if we’d like him to put in a movie.

Yes, please!

Apparently we made ourselves a little too comfortable in the store but we had to make sure the couches would be good for lazy days!

Oh! And you’ll never guess who we ran into.

IMG_5955

Hi Paul! Open-mouthed smile

Not only did we visit four different furniture stores, but we also stopped by Target, Lowe’s and JoAnn’s. It was a busy and honestly pretty exhausting day. I’m pooped!

Running errands did have some perks in the form of sweet treats…

IMG_5958

That would be a Reese’s milkshake that Ryan and I split from Krystal. (Seriously, Ocala has some quality (?) restaurants.) The milkshake literally tasted like a blended Reese’s peanut butter cup. I was in heaven!

And now I’m off to put some prints in frames and organize the laundry room closet before my sister arrives in town. We’re making progress!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Me too! The price of stuff is insane. Probably why our couch was free and had been in my grandparents home for probably longer than I have been alive. It might not be pretty, but it works for sitting and lounging 😉

The sofa I really really want is from Restoration Hardware and over 3500$… so we are sticking with our IKEA sofa for a while longer. It’s about three years old but looks pretty bad because our dog (35 lbs and named Sadie!!:)) likes to fashion herself a bed out of the back cushions. They look all sad and squished.

This is the more affordable set I like, maybe not super lounge-worthy but very comfy! I keep visiting it at my local mall like a stalker. http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=518935&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

Best of luck on your couch hunt. Did you and Ryan have to buy a washer/dryer? I have several rental properties and my realtor has boxes she checks off as to which appliances come with the property. Never heard of a rental w/out a washer and dryer. If you do have to purchase one (assuming you haven’t already) do research. My brother has a front loading machine and he needed a new one not long after purchasing it b/c it was damaging his clothing.
Keep up the great couch hunt.

Isn’t searching for couches exhausting? We had been om the search for a new couch, loveseat, and chair since january. I wasn’t thrilled with it taking that long to find what we wanted but i didn’t want to settle. Thankfully the search ended in July. Hope you are able to find something much sooner and what you are looking for.

I say if you really want to get the full couch-perience test-lounge, you show up to the next store with Sadie in tow, rocking the PJs and some tasty popcorn. Otherwise…. well you can never be too sure.

Either that, or get Paul’s advice.

Ugh, I feel stressed just hearing about your couch shopping! I’m a broke student so I haven’t really experienced this yet since I got all my furniture from relatives/kijiji, but eventually when I own my own house I have a specific vision in mind for my living room and I imagine that it will be a pain to shop for!

Good for you for not just caving out of frustration and spending a lot of money on something you’re not going to love. Sometimes, mismatched loveseats and couches can look really cute though! I bet whatever you find in the end will be totally worth all the trouble.

(I’m sure Sadie will be happy to have somewhere to lounge again too instead of the floor!) 😉

Hey Julie! I’m sure you are super busy with your move, but everything seems to be looking great. I have a quick Sadie question. Matt and I just got a dog (yesterday) and she won’t sleep on her dog bed. Does Sadie? Did you have to train her to do this? Thanks!

Good luck with the furniture. It can be hard to find just the right set. And a set that is available right away. I am lucky that we live in the furniture capital of the world, High Point NC. But everything here has to be ordered.

Maybe a trip to Ikea tomorrow! You didn’t see anything there?

Good luck with your couch hunt, I think my hubby would like to go with you. He wants a new couch, but I refuse to budge – ours is over 50 years old, my parents bought it when they first got married and needless to say they don’t make our particular lounge anymore.

The main reason I am commenting is because I came across an ‘on top of the kitchen cupboards’ decorating idea you may be interested in. I found a pic. in a furniture magazine and on top of the cupboard were a group of jugs, like water pitchers – Each jug was the exact same colour and similar in size, they were cream / ivory in colour and I immediately thought of your wedding – the bridesmaid dresses and the picture of your similar clutches. You could always use glass vases, bottles etc, whatever you desire and possibly even something in yellow 🙂

Sorry for the long comment, but the picture in the magazine was really nice and I just had to share with you.

I bought a lounge chair with ottoman from Ikea, Ektorp design, and I just love it. There is a blog called The SImple Thingsn and she has a lot of Ikea stuff in her home. I love her ideas. I found the blog when looking for reviews of the Ektorp couch. From everything I have found online the Ektorp really is meant to last. One blogger has had hers for about 10 years and she still loves it. Think about it….
