Fly By

January 13, 2012 by Julie 39 Comments

Hello from St. Pete!

I’m not here for long… Just making a pit stop to drop off Sadie at my parents’ house for the weekend since we’ll be out of town at a wedding. I’ll be leaving soon to carpool back to Ocala with my sister, so it’s a fly by visit.

The drive here wasn’t too bad. Traffic in the middle of the day is significantly less than rush hour, so less cars on the road meant I was considerably less self conscious about belting out the songs that popped up on my Pandora app.

I was a little too excited when one of my current song obsessions, Ingrid Michaelson’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” came on.

ingrid michaelson

She has the voice of an angel and I told my sister that this needs to be the first dance song at her wedding. Not to creep her out or anything, right?

Another song that popped up on the car ride was “And I Am Telling You” by Jennifer Hudson from the movie Dream Girls.

Sing it, J-Hud.

I turned up the volume and tried to sing along with her and screamed my way through the best part of the song (starts at minute 2:40 on the above video). Turns out my voice isn’t meant to sound soulful and passionate and does better with moderate songs… like Christmas carols. It’s also helpful if the radio is on at full blast and you can’t exactly hear me. Just ask Sadie.

Lunch

I made sure to plan my drive to St. Pete so I’d arrive in town right around lunchtime. I love raiding my parents’ pantry and fridge for new goodies!

After immediately eating a trail mix bar to fight my impending hunger a bit, I chatted with my mom for a bit.

Then it was time to  make myself a ham sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin which I ate with a side of pretzel crisps, roasted peanuts and fresh blueberries.

Sorry for eating half of my sandwich before snapping the picture. Git in mah belly!

Time to hit the road again!

We have a fun dinner planned for this evening with Ryan’s dad, his girlfriend, my sister and another couple. Should be a great night!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Car rides with loud music are the best! I like Ingrid too, my favorite is “Soldier” for a cooldown song in my classes. Have fun this weekend!

Have you seen Like Crazy? It’s an incredible indie movie that came out a few months ago, and this was in the trailer. Brings tears to my eyes.

i am one of those very loud singers in a car–and when i am by myself, i forget exactly how bad my voice is. so, i always get really embarrassed when i’m called out on it on those occasions i have passengers. dream girls is one of those soundtracks i frequently butcher.

HA that is exactly how I sing in the car too! Turn it up so loud you can’t hear how terrible I sound. The bf (who was a professional musician, went to music school and the whole show) doesn’t think that method works so well. He cringes, but my philosophy is that if i’m driving i get to sing what I want. He doesn’t like it, he can drive (so I can sleep! haha).

My favorite pandora station is Florence and the Machine and Ingrid Michaelson comes on there a lot. Love this song too!

Totally random too but I finally ordered my first item from rue la la, so $10 for you! I am so hooked and I actually like doing the “still want it” because, if I get it, which I did today, I feel like I won something! Didn’t even feel like I paid, it was just too exciting! Let’s hope I am not always so lucky. That head game won’t last too long when my credit card gets declined. 🙂

Thats funny, my fiancée and i just decided to have Ingrid michaelsons version of that song be our first dance song. We didnt have a song and couldn’t think of any and then we both heard it at different times when we saw that movie trailer and then one day we both said “I love this song.” so it was meant to be.

Ingrid Michaelson is my all time favorite artist. I’ve seen her in concert only once but am not kidding when I say that I listen to her albums almost every time I have turned on my ipod for 4 years…. and have yet to get sick of it.
Check out these songs by her: Parachute, The Chain, Maybe, Sort Of, and The Way I Am (my personal favorite and my song with my boo!)
I can send them to you too if you like them enough on YouTube!

Haha sorry for all the info at once! Whenever I see or hear Ingrid I freak! Her music is on a lot of tv shows (Grey’s and Private Practice) and movie trailers.. she’s the best!
