Fish 'n' Chips

July 13, 2010 by Julie 35 Comments

Back in June I experimented in the kitchen with a large rutabaga that I purchased at the Downtown Orlando Farmers’ Market.

I used the veggie to create rutabaga fries. I wasn’t sure if they would be a complete bomb or a total success, but I was determined to do something with the veggie since I had never tried it before.

Luckily the rutabaga fries were fantastic!

I made them again this evening to enjoy alongside broiled trout, seasoned with lemon, basil and thyme.

Din-nah!

A healthy take on fish ‘n’ chips!

Of course I included ketchup on the side for dippin’.

Dip-a-Dip

Deeelish!

Have you ever made “fries” using a vegetable other than potatoes?

I’ve made fries using a whole bunch of different veggies, but I think rutabaga fries and turnip fries are my favorites.

Huge fan of the carrot fries with ground flaxseed! And I would need WAY more ketchup than that 😉

I actually had fish n’ chips on the brain today. I have no idea why because I haven’t eaten this meal since I was in England more than 6 years ago, but it’s so ironic that you made it!

I got Butternut Squash fries off of Fitnessista’s blog and absolutely love them!! They taste delicious and pair well with ketchup. I’m going to have to try the rutabaga ones soon, though. An added bonus- they look just like french fries!! Slathered in ketchup, maybe they could even pass for the real thing! lol

Hi, just started reading your blog…love it! I’m ADDICTED to kabocha squash “fries.” Good savory with a sprinkling of sea salt or sweet with a sprinkling of brown sugar. (plus you can eat the skin for extra vitamins!)
