A BBQ and Cupcake Filled Birthday

July 8, 2012 by Julie 31 Comments

Reunited!

girlfriends

Yesterday afternoon I drove to Orlando to meet up with three of my my college girlfriends to celebrate Laurel’s birthday.

We thought we might end up making it a pool day (hence the bathing suit underneath my clothes), but when you put four former sorority sisters in one apartment living room, it’s hard to get them to move when there’s so much chatting going on.

Plus, we had great food and drinks, so there was no need to go anywhere. Smile

Cherayne and her boyfriend Matt picked barbeque up for everyone from 4 Rivers, the most fantastic smokehouse in Orlando, on their way over to Laurel’s.

I remember when 4 Rivers first opened when we used to live in Orlando a few years ago. Whenever Ryan and I would drive by, the line was always outrageous. When we finally decided to wait one weekend and try their food, we understood why. Amazing!

I opted for a pulled pork smokehouse salad with Italian dressing in an attempt to get some vegetables into my diet yesterday.

It was great!

I think Laurel’s cat Natasha wanted in…

She was giving me the “sharing is caring” eye.

For dessert, Cherayne made chocolate peanut butter cupcakes and we made sure to light candles and sing happy birthday to Laurel.

I ate one cupcake at Laurel’s apartment and another one in the car on the drive back to Ocala.

Cherayne made the icing with butter, peanut butter, powdered sugar and whipping cream and I’m pretty sure I could eat cups and cups of that stuff. It was incredible. This peanut butter-lovin’ girl was in heaven.

We spent the day simply hanging out and talking, which was absolutely perfect. I am so envious of people who live close to their best friends from high school or college, but at least four of us were able to drive a few hours to Orlando to meet up for the day!

Luckily, I’ll be seeing these girls in two short weeks at Leah’s bridal shower in Clearwater.

The countdown is on!

Those look DELICIOUS! Anything chocolate + peanut butter = a winner.
Sounds like you guys had so much fun! I definitely understand the feeling of not living close to good friends; it’s HARD! But it makes the times that you do see them all the more special 🙂
    Have a great Sunday, Julie!

i love the balance you have there with a great big salad and cupcakes! life is all about balance, no? both, however, look delicious!

haha that just reminded me: i keep telling my boyfriend i should open a restaurant called Salad and Cupcakes. because every girl i know would eat there! save with a salad and splurge with a cupcake. he thinks its silly – i think its genius!

Aw wow what a fun birthday!! The cupcakes look absolutely divine. I love that even though you and your college friends don’t live very close together, you still get together regularly. It’s something I hope to be doing with mine for years to come too! Have a great day Julie! 🙂

OMG, those cupcakes look amazing!! I want one! You’re killing me here w/the cupcake and 4Rivers talk. Before I became a vegetarian (year ago yesterday), my husband and I had the pleasure of trying it. I have to admit, their pulled pork is amazing! Plus, that mac & cheese… oh, and don’t forget the fried oreos & their carrot cake. 😉 I think I’d go now just to get down on those delicious sides & desserts! Yummy! Glad you enjoyed your visit w/the girls… you’re so fortunate to have so many close friends. 🙂

I wish I lived closer to my best friends as well. They live out of state so I am lucky to see them once or twice a year BUT we do talk on an almost daily basis so that makes it easier.

I’m so happy you got to see your friends! I miss mine a lot living in a different province but there’s always skype! I talk to my best friend, whom I’ve known since the age of six, about once a month and it is the best medicine for anything in life!! We always end up talking for hours.

I totally know what you mean.. I moved from Germany to Canada 15 months ago and haven’t seen most of my friends and family since 🙁 it’s very hard sometimes, but I never regretted my decision and I have an amazing husband and a second family here that I love deeply.

I’ve been wanting to try one but haven’t been brave enough yet haha I’m only 5’4″ so I don’t know if I’d be tall enough to actually pull it off.

Just got back from vacation and we had an O-212 reunion (this was our apartment number in college). It was so great, and like you we didn’t make it outside to swim either. Just lots of chatting and eating. It was wonderful. We live all over the country so we hadn’t seen each other in almost 10 years! Crazy!
