A Lisa Frank Inspired Valentine’s Day

February 15, 2013 by Julie 120 Comments

Valentine’s Day in the Fagan household was low key and lovely!

I surprised Ryan with a ridiculous “Happy Valentine’s Day” display on our garage door.

Happy Valentine's Day Garage Door Sign

In our household, the cheesier, the better!

Ryan and I are big sign people and like to leave signs on the door to welcome each other home after a trip away or congratulate each other after something neat happens, so I figured I’d up the ante a bit and he got a big kick out of it!

After dinner, we exchanged our $20 gifts!

Valentine's Day $20 Budget

And yes, Ryan wrapped my gifts in a popcorn tin that we saved from Christmas. We never buy new wrapping paper or gift bags when we give gifts to each other and just reuse the gift bags that we’ve received from others, so it’s always interesting to see what our gifts look like. I laughed out loud when I saw the popcorn tin!

My gifts from Ryan included a super soft pink t-shirt, gum (I am a gum-chewing maniac) and awesome neon Reebok socks!

Valentine's Day 015Reebok neon socks

The socks totally reminded me of the Lisa Frank notebooks I used to own as a kid and the fourth grade girl inside of me freaked out a little bit!

Lisa Frank

When I mentioned Lisa Frank, Ryan gave me a rather confused look and told he me had never heard of her. It saddens me to know that his childhood didn’t include neon kitten notebooks and Trapper Keepers adorned with psychedelic seals.

My gifts to Ryan included a book, turkey jerky, his favorite candy, a can of nawgan (he loves this stuff) and a bunch of white chocolate-covered Oreos from a local chocolatier that obviously got inhaled the minute he opened them since they alluded any photographs.

Valentine's Day 018

It was a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Workout

Today began nice and early with a sweaty whiteboard-inspired workout at the gym.

Whiteboard Workout!

Once a week or so, my gym puts a new functional training workout on the whiteboard and today I followed the workout, but added in some upper body exercises as well. It was a good one!

I had a smoothie for breakfast and worked through the morning until it was time for lunch.

Lunch

Lunch today was rather random.

I had a serious craving for ricotta cheese that I couldn’t shake, so pizza toast made with the creamy cheese sounded perfect.

I also ate a couple of handfuls of salted cashews on the side.

Now it’s time to pack. Off to Sanibel for the weekend!

Happy Friday!

Hehe I remember Lisa Frank! And I remember getting so excited whenever a new school year was approaching and my mom would take me to the store to shop for school supplies. Getting a good pencil case, folders, pencils, and notebooks was like a must.

However I accidentally referred to her as Anne Frank. Big difference!!

Oh my gosh, that toast sounds randomly delicious right about now. I love “pizzas” on tortillas, I don’t know why I didn’t think bread would work as well. Haha, that is super cute! Oh man, Lisa Frank brings me back to the good ol’ days. I was so obsessed, especially since we had the same name, so somehow I though that made me cooler?;) Makes total sense.

So cute with the sign! I love how you budgeted $20 for gifts. I so have to do that next time. I spent a little much this time around getting him an SF Giants/49er hat and shirt.

LOVED Lisa Frank and I am WAY older than you! She has been around for a long time. Anyway, I wish I could post a picture on here because I actually collected Lisa Frank stickers as a child and still have them all. (several 100) I handed them down to my daughter many years ago, but she just doesn’t seem to have the same obsession that I did. Thanks for the reminder of a fun childhood memory. 🙂

Lisa Frank was the bee’s knees when I was in grade school! I must have had every thing you could get from her. My mom hated taking me to the store because I would always end up wanting a new Lisa Frank item. My favorite item had to be my Lisa Frank backpack….I wonder what happened to that? To be fair, Ryan is a boy, and most boys probably didn’t want multi-colored lunch boxes or pencil toppers. Especially neon.

I LOVED Lisa Frank. Thought she was awesome, and I didn’t care who knew it. I remember when the popular girl in my class, Mollie, decided that Lisa Frank wasn’t *gasp* cool, the other girls dropped poor Lisa like a hot potato for Elmo and Sesame Street. I continued to rock my Lisa Franks because my mom didn’t feel the need to buy me new stuff based on what was popular, and in turn, this made me look like a rebel (thanks, mom!).

BTW, last night, my mom and I made your Crock Pot Chicken Masala and Chickpeas and it was AWESOME! She made it, and forgot coconut milk, so she subbed coconut greek yogurt. Still works. LOL 🙂
