A Little Hectic

April 18, 2013 by Julie 63 Comments

No matter how much I plan and accomplish ahead of time, the day before vacation is always a little hectic. Things always seem to pop up out of nowhere. Like round two of fingerprinting for my new job!

Apparently the piece of paper with my fingerprints that I previously submitted was misplaced, so I got to visit my friends at the police department again today. We’re just anxious to get my background check done while I am away, so I can officially begin working when I return. (I’ve been shadowing and training up until now.)

Other than that, I’ve been tying up loose ends on some other projects and working on a few blog posts for you guys while I’m away. I hope to have access to the internet randomly, but since that cannot be guaranteed, I want to have a few things planned. Some fun guest posts and giveaways are also headed your way!

After my time at the police station, I popped into the library to pick up a few books to bring along on our trip. The winning book for the PBF May Book Club is If I Stay by Gayle Forman!

If I Stay

We’ll be discussing it on the blog on June 7!

Unfortunately that book was checked out, so I picked up a different book club contender, The Gargoyle, since so many of you raved about it.

The Gargoyle

And a little Mindy Kaling because she’s so darn funny.

Lunch

I didn’t feel like putting much effort into lunch today and pulled a pizza out of the freezer and figured that would do!

Kashi BBQ chicken pizza

I ate three slices of Kashi BBQ chicken pizza (and went back for a fourth about 30 minutes later) and paired my pizza with golden tomatoes. Gotta use ‘em or lose ‘em!

Now I’m off to finish packing before my father-in-law arrives in town and we head out to dinner.

I’ll see ya next time from the airport!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is the funniest book you’ve ever read?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I love how you said use em’ or lose em. SO TRUE. Sometimes I get so mad if I forget a bag of something in the fridge and they are no longer good. So that’s a good phrase 😉

    enjoy your dinner!!

First off, I think I’m gonna make a trip to publix and buy that pizza for tonight…because its Friday. Thats all the reason I need.
Ah my library has If I Stay so I’m definitely going to be reading it!
And I have been wanting to read Mindy’s book. Tell me if its good! Or well, I kinda want to go get it now.

Oh my gosh – every book by David Sedaris! If you haven’t read him yet, you MUST. I crack up just thinking about his writing.

Hahaha I first read “second round of fingerprinting” as “second round of fingerPAINTING” and I was like, hold on…you have to fingerpaint for your job?? I want to be a personal trainer! Hahaha.

Have so much fun on your trip! I’ve wanted to go to that part of the world for years, so I’m crazy jealous! Definitely excited to hear about it!

    Hi Julie!!
I was born and raised in Lima, Peru!!! I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’ve been to Machu Picchu 5 times already. How many nights are you staying in Lima? How about Cusco? Are you staying in Machu Picchu or at the Plaza?
When you’re in Cusco you should try to visit Maras y Moray, Sacsayhuaman, The Sacred Valley (Urubamba). The best places to eat are La Cicciolina (Italian) and Greens Organic (vegetarian). There’s also a Jack’s Cafe that serves really good hamburgers.

We have the best food in Lima, so I recommend doing a culinary tour. The best places just to name a few are La Huaca, Astrid y Gastón, La Gloria, Rafael, Carnal, Pescados Capitales has the best seafood, La Mar has the best ceviche, Osaka has amazing sushi, and if you have any other questions you should try and contact me!!

Have a great time here!!!!!! I’m sure you’re going to LOVE it.

I read Where’d You Go, Bernadette? and thought it was pretty funny. I just started reading What Alice Forgot and it’s supposed to be funny. We’ll see. 🙂

I’ll have to look at Mindy’s book. She’s hilarious!

As a librarian, I love that you use the library so frequently! The funniest book I read was probably one of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. They are hilarious! I read “If I stay” and enjoyed that a lot. I’ve never heard of the Gargoyle but I’ll have to check it out.

I’m so happy with the book choice this month! I actually reserved it from the library after reading the short description in your initial post. I knew even if it wasn’t the book picked by everyone else I was still going to read it. For some reason I always get sucked into memory-loss thrillers, I just can’t seem to put them down.

I decided to read “If I Stay” as well. Check out my review for this book! I know you mentioned a few other bloggers were reading the book as well.
    Thanks!!
