A Little Hectic

April 18, 2013 by Julie 63 Comments

No matter how much I plan and accomplish ahead of time, the day before vacation is always a little hectic. Things always seem to pop up out of nowhere. Like round two of fingerprinting for my new job!

Apparently the piece of paper with my fingerprints that I previously submitted was misplaced, so I got to visit my friends at the police department again today. We’re just anxious to get my background check done while I am away, so I can officially begin working when I return. (I’ve been shadowing and training up until now.)

Other than that, I’ve been tying up loose ends on some other projects and working on a few blog posts for you guys while I’m away. I hope to have access to the internet randomly, but since that cannot be guaranteed, I want to have a few things planned. Some fun guest posts and giveaways are also headed your way!

After my time at the police station, I popped into the library to pick up a few books to bring along on our trip. The winning book for the PBF May Book Club is If I Stay by Gayle Forman!

If I Stay

We’ll be discussing it on the blog on June 7!

Unfortunately that book was checked out, so I picked up a different book club contender, The Gargoyle, since so many of you raved about it.

The Gargoyle

And a little Mindy Kaling because she’s so darn funny.

Lunch

I didn’t feel like putting much effort into lunch today and pulled a pizza out of the freezer and figured that would do!

Kashi BBQ chicken pizza

I ate three slices of Kashi BBQ chicken pizza (and went back for a fourth about 30 minutes later) and paired my pizza with golden tomatoes. Gotta use ‘em or lose ‘em!

BBQ Chicken Pizza Kashi

Now I’m off to finish packing before my father-in-law arrives in town and we head out to dinner.

I’ll see ya next time from the airport!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is the funniest book you’ve ever read?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Oh man, I know what you mean about those pre vacation pop ups! I feel like all of a sudden I just get super busy before I have to be somewhere.
You will love the Mindy Kaling book! It’s SO good and pretty darn funny. I recommend the Chelsea Handler books as well, because hers are pretty awesome.

I’m not much of a comedy book reader, I tend to like really gripping and exciting novels. But that book looks HILARIOUS. You’ll have to tell us if its good or not!

Without a doubt, Tina Fey’s Bossypants. I’d start laughing while reading it on the subway and get funny looks from people. I also loved Mindy Kaling’s book, which I’ve read twice now. She’s actually an alumni of my undergrad and when she said she went there to “pursue my love of white people and North Face parkas” I laughed so hard because that’s pretty accurate.

David Sedaris cracks me up. I’ve read When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and Naked, and they’re all so great!

I LOVE Mindy Kaling, but I never knew she had a book out! Definitely going on my to-read list.

Also, fun fact, did you know that Chris Colfer (Kurt from Glee) came out with a children’s novel?

I am glad you decided to read If I Stay. I just started reading it yesterday afternoon and from the looks of it I may be done in a few days. It is pretty good thus far!
I agree that when times are busy it can be a tad bit overwhelming especially when you are going on vacation. But once you are on the plane, you can have that “ahhh” moment of relaxation!
    Have a good vacation!

It’s so true, no matter how well you plan those last minute snafus always pop up! At least you had everything else under control so they didn’t become monumental hurdles. Mindy Kaling’s book is SO funny! It’s a really quick read and you’ll be laughing the whole time. I also loved Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. So SO funny.

I know this will sound weird, but when I thought of the funniest book I ever read, the first thing that popped into my mind was all of the Junie B. Jones books I read as a little girl. I loved them because I thought they were so funny! Of course I haven’t read these books in years, but I still remember how funny they were. Good memories 🙂
