A Sequel Surprise (+ Jewelry Resetting Giveaway!)

November 18, 2015 by Julie 284 Comments

After Chase was born, my mom drove up to our home in Charlotte from Jacksonville, Florida to meet her new grandson and help us with the transition into life as new parents. As the days passed, I realized very quickly just how incredibly helpful she was, not only for her assistance with Chase but for her company and emotional support. I was tired and overwhelmed, naturally questioning everything about my role as a new mom, but having my mother there to assure me that I was doing just fine made a world of difference.

During her stay, I received an email from Sequel, a new website that offers diamond and gemstone resetting online. They asked if I had any jewelry I’d like to have reset and immediately my mom popped into my mind. I asked if they would be willing to allow me to have a piece of my grandmother’s jewelry reset as a gift to my mother.

Sequel Ring Resetting

As you may know if you read my blog this summer, we lost Mimi, my mother’s mother a week after we were all together in Raleigh for my baby shower. Her loss was (and continues to be) a hard one but whenever we remember Mimi, we cannot help but smile. When my Aunt Laurie came to meet Chase for the first time, she brought some of Mimi’s jewelry with her and left behind her beautiful diamond engagement ring for my mom.

Diamond Engagement Ring

The ring didn’t fit my mom’s hand, but she mentioned the beauty of the diamond in the ring a number of times.

When I asked her if she might like to have the diamond reset so she could wear the ring regularly, her eyes lit up! We curled up on the couch together and started browsing through Sequel for inspiration.

Sequel made everything so easy. The entire resetting process, from start to finish, was a breeze and I cannot recommend this site enough if you have a precious diamond or gemstone you would like to have reset for yourself or a loved one.

My mom and I were able to completely recreate a new piece of jewelry from my grandmother’s beautiful diamond and I absolutely love the story behind the setting my mother chose.

Diamond and Garnet Ring

In my mom’s words:

Many years ago, I received a ring from my mother’s father, PopPop. It was a garnet in a white gold setting. I absolutely loved the ring. During a Latin Club trip to Greece when I was in high school, the ring was taken from my suitcase in a hotel. I have always felt sad about losing my special ring and wanted to have a garnet ring again. This ring will have special meaning to me as it will combine Mom’s engagement ring (a reminder of the love she and Daddy shared) and a garnet – a deep red stone that I once loved from my grandfather.

Garnet and Diamond Ring

The fact that her new ring reminds her of her mother and her grandfather means so much to me and I’m so, so grateful to Sequel for allowing me to gift something so special to my incredible mother.

The setting my mom chose is clean and modern and she plans to wear it on her right ring finger.

Diamond Resetting

Resetting a diamond or gemstone through Sequel is accessible, simple and affordable (you are only charged for your setting) and the price for resetting begins at only $55. (Sequel covers the shipping, packaging, consultation, unsetting and resetting costs.)

You can browse the site for inspiration or work with a ReStylist who will provide you with inspiration and ideas for your stone. They will help you understand what metals go best with what colored stones and provide before and after images so you know what your resetting will look like ahead of time. And don’t think resetting only applies to rings! You can reset diamonds and gemstones into earrings, a bracelet or a necklace as well.

Sequel Giveaway + Discount

If you or someone you love have a diamond or gemstone you would like to have reset, I think you will like today’s giveaway! Sequel is giving away a free reset of a diamond or gemstone of up to $500.

Sequel is also offering all PBF readers 10 percent off any reset through their site. Simply mention PBFINGERS to receive your discount!

To enter this giveaway, please leave a comment on this post and tell me about the piece of jewelry you would like to have reset and provide a link to a setting you love on Sequel. Does the diamond or gemstone you’d like to have reset have a special meaning to you? How do you think you would like to have it reset? Please let me know!

I will randomly choose a winner next Friday.

Good luck!

my mum had a ring of hers reset a couple years ago, also using gold from melting other rings, and she LOVES it. I like to reset the ring my sister got from our grandma for her, so that maybe she will wear it more. or maybe my mum has more rings I can ‘steal’ and reset for myself! haha

My engagement ring has sat in my jewelry box for several years while I went through nursing school and have become a nurse. The stone sits high and rips gloves when I put them on to care for patients. Sometimes I don’t have time for that! I would love.to have it reset so that it is more flush with my hand and I can wear it to work. I would choose this setting :http://sequel.gemvara.com/jewelry/garland-ring/your-center-stone-18k-rose-gold-ring-with-red-garnet-and-ruby/139gqy?mode=prerequest

I miss wearing the diamond my (then) 20 year old husband gave me (15 years ago) and would love to wear it again!

I lost both my parents in the past 3 years. I would like to reset my mother’s engagement ring so that I could wear it as a symbol of the enduring strength and resiliency of their marriage and to be able to carry them with me every day. They met as teenagers and were married 48 years before my father died. They are a testament to what marriage can be if you are truly committed to supporting each other, for better or worse.

What a neat website and service offering! I have a ring of my late great grandmother’s that while beautiful and unique is a fragile design and one I’d like to reset so that I can wear it and remember my great grandmother. I’ve had it on my mind lately and never thought of a service such as this existed. At first glance, the following setting catches my eye but I’d be curious to see what the experts at Sequel would suggest : http://sequel.gemvara.com/jewelry/mothers-gift-ring-with-one-gem/your-center-stone-14k-rose-gold-ring/1336lx?mode=prerequest.

I got a ring from my dad for Christmas one year that I absolutely loved. The stone, a green amethyst, fell out and I lost the setting but still have the stone. I would love to recreate the ring with diamonds I have in a heart-shaped necklace that I also got from my dad when I was 10. It would be a great way to incorporate the necklace I got from him and still have the ring be a constant reminder of my dad! It looked nearly identical to this ring:

I was so touched as I read your story, because the entire time I couldn’t help but think of my mom. We lost my grandma, my moms mom, on May 15th of this year. It was one of the hardest things I have ever been through. And like my mom and I, she was best friends with her mother. My grandma was a HUGE lover of unique jewelry. When she passed, she left all of her jewelry to my mom. But, many of the rings are too small or they are broken or defected in some way. I would love with all my heart to be able to present to her one of my grandmothers reset jewels for Christmas. It would be something so close to heart and would be so cherished by her. Below is the link to the ring I thought would fit her so well. It is simple and classic like my mom but unique and a little bit funky like my grandma, so it is perfect!

My mother passed away when I was 6 years old and a diamond ring that belonged to her was given to my grandmother. My grandmother wore the ring until she passed away and the ring was then handed down to me. I have always wanted to redo the ring. I would love to take the ring and turn it into the Modern Flower Ring. It has exactly the number of diamonds that are currently in my ring. It looks similar to my mom’s ring but just a bit more my style.

I have two rings I’d love to update.

In the late 1970’s I lost the diamond in my engagement ring. It has a custom ring that fit with the wedding band. I’m now a widow with grandchildren and would love to have the ring reset so I can give to one of them when they’re ready to be married.

I also have my grandmother’s engagement ring…she was married in 1912!!! It was never off her finger until her death in 1989. Then my aunt wore it for 15 years until her own death in 2004. worn it from time to time but it is quite worn and definitely needs a update.

I love this setting for either ring. http://sequel.gemvara.com/jewelry/adele-ring/your-center-stone-14k-white-gold-ring-with-diamond/1187w8?mode=prerequest

When my grand mom passed away, she left her engagement band to me and my sister. The band has 6 diamonds going around the band so 3 go to me and 3 to my sister. I have yet to do anything with the ring because I didn’t know how I wanted to have the diamonds reset. I knew I wanted a ring but didn’t know what I wanted until I came across the Renee ring from Sequel on Pinterest. After seeing what your mom did with Mimi’s ring, I would love to do the same with my grandmothers diamonds to wear on my right ring finger.

The timeless knot ring would be my ring of choice. Its for my wedding ring. I haven’t been able to wear it for 15 years. The prongs on the sides of the settings are loose and I’ve been afraid to wear it because I don’t want to lose the diamonds, and haven’t been able to reset it due to financial difficulties, so thus it sits in my jewelry box. What a delight to possibly win, It’s my 20th wedding anniversary this Friday and I could wear it again. 🙂 Thanks so much for the opportunity.
