Aspaeris Pivot Compression Shorts Giveaway

February 25, 2012 by Julie 1,073 Comments

After I blogged about the soreness I experienced following the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, a wonderful woman (and amazing athlete!) who works with my dad and reads my blog reached out to me about the benefits of compression clothing.

She swore by compression gear as a means to increase oxygen blood flow to the muscles, helping them to recover faster.

After wearing compression sleeves over my calves following the Women’s Half Marathon later that month, I was a believer. I wasn’t sore and loved the snug fit of the sleeves.

I knew then that I wanted to try out compression shorts since my hamstrings and quads are often sore after long runs.

Thanks to the kind people at Aspaeris, I was able to try out the Aspaeris Pivot compression shorts and my belief in the benefits of compression clothing was further solidified.

The Aspaeris compression shorts are tight and thick, but comfortable. They don’t dig into my skin. They are snug, but don’t make me feel strangled.

According to Aspaeris, the shorts “offer a unique two-layer design. The top layer supports your muscles while the bottom layer guides you into position. Breakthrough, patent-pending compression bands are cross-knit into the fabric that creates muscle memory to help prevent ACL injury and improve your performance.”

Snug as a bug in a rug. Smile

The shorts come in a variety of colors including black, white, red and navy blue.

And now YOU have a chance to win a pair of Aspaeris Pivot compression shorts!

I think my biggest achievement thus far is my first race, a 10-miler. It was no 26.2 miles (maybe one day!), but it made me feel like Superwoman, and I realized I could really do this distance running thing. 🙂

My goal is to complete my 2nd half marathon by next year. I ran in my first one last fall and had a really hard time recovering so I’ve been a little hesitant to run in another one. These compression shorts would be perfect motivation and encouragement that I can do it again!

My next athletic goal is to get over my fear of lifting free weights in the gym (my gym is my university’s gym and there are just a TON of guys down there all the time). My most recent athletic accomplishment was running my last long run (11.5 miles) at a 7:20 pace!

I raced triathlon in college and for a few years after. In 2008, I placed at nationals and qualified for the ITU world championship in triathlon. Now, I still race from time to time, but I enjoy competing in other sports now, like running, cyclo cross, and nordic skiing.

I trained for a 10-mile trail run (2000 feet of elevation gain) and though I got injured and couldn’t run the whole thing, I still completed it – I was proud of that! I’m still working through that injury now and hope to run the same race injury-free in 2013!

I have a history of issues with my IT Band when I’m training for a run. I’ve seen lots of positive reviews on compression shorts, but haven’t tried them yet. I’m training now for the Iron Girl Half-Marathon in Clearwater, Florida. They’d get used a lot.

Two years ago, I became a group fitness instructor. I was certified to teach a class that I’ve loved FOREVER called “Turbo Kick”. I had thought about becoming an instructor for a few years, but never had the guts.

Now, just a few short years later, I teach Turbo Kick, Boot Camp, Weight Lifting and Hip Hop Hustle at my local YMCA. I’m also planning to get certified in Zumba and Body Pump.

Sure, I’ve been doing these classes forever and didn’t have to push myself that hard physically to achieve this goal. It was more of a mental thing. Building up the confidence to lead a class and help a group of individuals reach their health and fitness goals took a lot of courage…but it’s also been incredibly rewarding!

I’ve run a few marathons and about 20 half marathons, but I have been dealing with multiple injuries in my right leg for the past year that sidelined my running. My personal goal this year is to focus on healing my body so that I can run strong again. I miss it so much!
