Beach Run

February 18, 2011 by Julie 72 Comments

As someone who has lived in Florida since 2003, it’s hard to believe that I’ve never gone for a run on the beach until this morning.

sanibel 006

After stopping for dinner at my father-in-law’s house last night and leaving Sadie in good hands with him and his girlfriend, Ryan and I drove to Sanibel Island to join my family for a weekend vacation at the beach.

This morning Ryan and I awoke around 7:30 a.m. and headed out to the beach for a run.

sanibel 004

We ran toward the end of the island to the light house before turning around and coming back. We actually saw a sting ray washed up on the beach which was really neat (and a little sad… poor guy).

In the end we covered five miles before walking along the beach for a bit.

When we arrived back at the condo, my family was up and about and chatting away. Ryan and I quickly prepared his and hers breakfast bowls of oatmeal with sugar and peanut butter.

sanibel 013

I added more sugar than I intended to and my bowl ended up tasting a lot like oatmeal peanut butter cookie dough. I’m not complaining though because it was delicious!

Now we’re about to change into our bathing suits for a day at the beach!

See ya soon!

Jealous! I want a day at the beach! Beach running always makes me so sore, but in a good way! I think the extra “give” in the sand must work different muscles or something.

    Enjoy your family weekend!

Add me to the jealous list! I will try not to think about the fact that here in Edmonton Alberta it’s currently
-24C! Joys of living on the Canadian prairies…the constant fluctuations from springlike melty weather to deep freezes this time of year.

Don’t feel sorry for the stingray. If they are washed up they can still sting you — and they will. A few years ago I was stung by a washed up stingray and it was seriously painful because they carry a neurotoxin that doesn’t cause any lasting damage but it causes horrible pain that radiates through your body.

I always do feel really hard core when I get an opportunity to mention that I’ve been stung by a stingray, though.

I love running on the beach! every year, I run on the beach for training during our family vacation to north myrtle beach.

do you and ryan run at the same pace? I used to have to practically DRAG james out the door to run with me… and even then, it was a dilly dally pace. since ryan seems to be into the he-man “grrrumph!” weights like james is, I wanna know how good he is about runnin’. =)

he has a natural ability that i can only dream of! he just runs at my pace (which is significantly slower than his). he doesn’t run as often though & said he’s already feeling sore. he once ran an entire half marathon w/o training at all. i’m jealous!

I’ve been meaning to tell you about a great product. I saw in past posts that you have used Brothers Fruit Crisps, but I have an alternative I like much better! It kind of looks like it is for kids (but who cares, right?) but it’s called Funky Monkey Snacks (www.funkymonkeysnacks.com). They have a ton of flavors, but their Apple and Cinnamon flavor is GREAT in oatmeal, yogurt, etc.

    Just a thought ! 🙂

Isn’t running on the beach HARD? I always think it is harder than running on pavement. The humidity is higher, the ground not as stable even when you run down by the surf and while the scenery is beautiful it gets a bit monotonous when you can just see for literally miles and miles and miles in a straight line in front of you.

There is nothing better than a morning beach run, especially with your love, with the waves crashing at your feet and soft sand under your feet. Have you tried running without shoes? It feels amazing! Have a great, relaxing day at the beach! I am so jealous!
