Beauty and the Beast Musical

August 5, 2012 by Julie 27 Comments

This morning, after a pancake breakfast spent on the couch with Ryan watching the Olympics (I am in awe of the women marathoners!), I hopped in my car around 9:30 a.m. to make the drive to my parents’ house in St. Pete.

My mom, sister and I had big plans for the day. Our plans dated all the way back to Christmas!

My sister and I gave my mom tickets to a “musical of her choice” as one of her Christmas gifts and printed off a bunch of options for her in the Tampa Bay area. She selected Beauty and the Beast, so today, eight months later, we redeemed her Christmas gift!

We’ve seen a couple of other Disney musicals together, including Mary Poppins and The Lion King, but this was the first one that we’ve seen real live Disney princesses attend!

Spotted: Belle and Jasmine!

We saw at least 20 little girls dressed up as Belle in shiny yellow dresses. They were all so excited and absolutely adorable.

My sister and I only had to push about eight of them out of the way to get this photo:

Just kidding. We only pushed Jasmine since her magic carpet obviously dropped her off at the wrong musical. Don’t worry, Abu dried her tears.

The musical started at 1 p.m. and we tried our best not to sing along so that the ears of those near us wouldn’t bleed.

The musical itself was cute and we had a great time. It was definitely geared to a younger crowd than the other Disney musicals we’ve seen that were great for both children and adults, but it was still fun to watch. My sister and I laughed at two dads in line for drinks at intermission who were gearing up for Act II with a few Red Bulls. Power through, dads!

Dinner

The musical was longer than we anticipated and when we got out, the three of us were hungry and decided to head to an early dinner at Season’s 52.

We started with a tuna appetizer that we inhaled.

For my entrée, I ordered the BBQ chicken salad with extra goat cheese instead of the blue cheese.

It was fantastic and I loved the sunflower seeds and corn. Mmm!

I also shared a goat cheese and artichoke flatbread with my mom and sister.

For dessert? A mini pecan pie that was thoroughly enjoyed.

I’m spending the night in St. Pete because I have a dentist appointment in the area tomorrow morning, so I’m off to hang out with my family and watch the Olympics!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

That looks like a fun musical! I haven’t seen too many in person and no Disney ones! Well, I guess I’ve seen Disney on Ice a few times when I was little although I don’t remember it well!

Beauty and the Beast, I love it! I lived in NY growing up and my fam had a tradition to go see a broadway play the day before thanksgiving each year–I remember when we did beauty and the beast–it was the best!

Julie, I just love your blog and your overall perspective on life. But, having 2 little girls of my own, makes me a bit partial to posts like today’s. I see the relationship you and your sister have with one another and with your mom, and I hope for that for my girls and I in the future. Thanks so much for sharing! You are truly an inspiration.

This reminds me of one time when my grandma and I went to see a Christmas play like we do every year but decided to pick a random one that we hadn’t heard of. We showed up and it was literally like a Blues Clues of Christmas musicals…the entire audience was 3-7 years old and it was a sing-along. It turned out being hilarious, but after that we stuck with A Christmas Carol every year 😉

Hey – Tell me about the Magical Rose? – I work at a costume rental company (Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid) and I’ve built many Magical Roses for rentals – I’m always curious about other productions? How theirs looked.
