Cell Phone Ring Tones

November 10, 2011 by Julie 140 Comments

Last night as I was prepping overnight oats for breakfast, I made two separate batches… one with bananas and one without.

Though Ryan and I both like bananas in our overnight oats, Ryan is really funny about the texture of bananas and adds a banana to his overnight oats in the morning to combat the “mush factor.”

I, on the other hand, like adding bananas to the mix the night before so the oats really take on the flavor of the fruit.

In the morning I simply stir the oats up and swipe some of Ryan’s fresh banana slices to garnish my bowl for even more banana flare.

(Can you see me in the spoon’s reflection in my hot pink bathrobe? It’s Where’s Waldo: PBF Edition.)

Today’s overnight oats included the following:

  • 2/3 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 6 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 banana, sliced

Mmm!

Cell Phone Ring Tones

Earlier this week, I was out and about running a quick errand after dinner when my cell phone rang. I didn’t think anything of it until a man near me started cracking up.

“Mambo Number Five? Really?” he laughed.

Ah!

When I first got my phone last year, I set the ringtone to Mambo Number Five to mess with Ryan because he owns (not owned… owns) the Lou Bega CD and swears it is awesome which I find incredibly hilarious.

lou bega

I never changed the ring tone and Mambo Number Five has blared in several embarrassing environments throughout the past year. (The only person who has a different ring tone on my phone is Ryan. His is set to the first dance song from our wedding.)

I’m sure I’ll change my ring tone eventually, but Mambo Number Five is a surprisingly catchy ring tone and very distinguishable from other cell phone ring tones in public!

I know I can’t be the only one out there with a random and slightly embarrassing ring tone…

Questions of the Morning

  • What is your cell phone ring tone?
  • What’s the best cell phone ring tone you’ve ever heard?

I remember Ryan’s cousin set his cell phone ring tone to the Laguna Beach theme song in college as a joke which cracked me up. Even now whenever I hear Hilary Duff sing “Let the raaaain fall down and wake my dreams…” I cannot help but laugh.

My current ringtone is just something that came with the phone but with my old iPhone I used to create my own tones out of completely random songs. My favourite was Prince’s Song of the Heart from the Happy Feet soundtrack.

Ages ago I was at a work function and a colleague’s ringtone was a song from a relatively obscure musical called Tick Tick Boom. We immediately bonded over the fact that I recognised the song and musical that nobody else at the function had ever heard of.

I was riding the train the other day and a grown man’s phone started ringing “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry. At first I was really creeped out by it – but then I thought that maybe his wife or someone else set that ring because his face turned bright red, he tried to grab his phone and ended up dropping it between the seat – so it rang that much longer! Ha! It was great.

I was having lunch (outside seating) when I heard “lean like a cholo” come on. Trying to be subtle, I glance over to my right to find a skinny little asian boy wearing a bright pink hollister shirt. I was confused and tried not to laugh as he tried to cover his face and proceed to NOT answer the phone. .my friends did a double-take and covered their faces as they turned away to laugh. His friends give him that “wtf” look, and I look over at the table on the othe other side of this kid and they are just cracking up (quietly, of course)..I wonder if he decided to keep that ringtone..who was he foolin’ by not answering it? Haha 🙂

haha that’s funny. Back in the day, I used to set my ring tone to all kinds of fun tones. Now, I just have the normal ring. But, for a while, when I was all “I heart NY,” my ringer was…”Empire State of Mind.” Couldn’t help myself 🙂

Hubby’s is ‘Angel’ by Jack Johnsom, which was our song at our wedding as well.

Everybody else has ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster The People. I feel a little creepy when my phone is playing a song about going on a shooting spree in public.

    My husband set it. -.-

I heard that song the other day and it made me laugh. They just don’t make songs like that anymore…probably for good reason. 🙂 My ringtone is “Dancing on the Ceiling” because I love Lionel Richie. It is definitely embarrassing when it rings in public though. Even if our ringtones are embarrassing, at least they are distinctive, right?

I’m currently using the default ringer on my iPhone, which is normally set on vibrate most of the time anyways. Before I got my iPhone, my phone would blare the sirens that go off when the Pittsburgh Penguins score a goal. I loved it, but a lot of people stared!

don’t really do the ring tone thing since i always have my phone on silent/vibrate at work and rarely remember to switch it back to volume after….

a few years ago to prank my mother, i changed her ringtone to Li’l Mama’s “Lipgloss” – PLEASE tell me someone remembers that song. There we were meeting with the director of a fancy country club to discuss my sister’s wedding, and my mom’s phone is all, “whatchu know bout me? whatchu whatchu know about me?” My mother clearly isn’t answering because she doesn’t realize it’s hers. Hy-sterical.

Do you know what Veggietales are? I have their song, “Pirates who don’t do anything” on my phone. Even if you don’t know who they are, it makes people giggle and I always smile. The only other different one is for my old work and boss. Because I hated that place so much, I needed to give it a little roughness, so the intro to Led Zepplin’s “Kashmir” it was. I still love the song, but it was a good fit.

I actually don’t currently have a cell phone ring actually- I keep my phone on silent which works because it’s pretty much always in my hand if I’m available! I have had various Journey songs in the past though that kept things entertaining- or I used to have that song playback when people called? It rotated songs and I thought it was so cool- until my employer left me a very angry message about how they did not want to listen to Just Dance… oops!
