Choosing a Rent the Runway Dress

October 27, 2014 by Julie 207 Comments

Good afternoon, my friends!

Things are going well over here so far today. I’ve been running around a bit and spending some time at my new gym meeting with my boss and getting acquainted with everything. I may actually be teaching my first class this week (a teacher may need a sub) which is sooner than anticipated since we initially discussed a November 3 start date. I’m excited to get going!

Workout

Today’s workout took me back to Pure Barre where I am so close to completing my studio’s October challenge. I’m one class away from completing the 20-class challenge and I’m hoping tomorrow will be my day!

Breakfast + Lunch

Breakfast today began with a hot tumbler of peppermint crème coffee served with a slice of my maple walnut pumpkin spice loaf that I topped with a thick (but crumbly) smear of almond butter.

About 30 minutes later, I followed that up with a green Suja juice and apple that I enjoyed while working at the computer.

Then it was off to the gym where I spent the rest of the morning and part of the early afternoon before it was time to head home for a late lunch.

Right when I walked through the door, I fixed myself a bowl of clam chowder.

And I ended up eating another slice of the pumpkin loaf as I heated up my soup. I can’t get enough of that stuff!

A delicious persimmon also made it into my belly.

And now for a little Monday afternoon fun…

Help Me Choose: Rent the Runway

On Friday morning, Ryan and I will be heading to Savannah, Georgia for a wedding and I cannot wait! I am currently feeling rather uninspired by my closet and after reading good reviews of Rent the Runway on Theodora and Gina’s blogs, I think it’s time to give it a go.

I actually first heard rave reviews of Rent the Runway when my friend Merri’s twin sister Liz rented the bridesmaid dress she wore in Merri’s wedding!

(Liz standing second from the left and is wearing the short blush-colored Tibi dress.)

After quickly poking around the site this afternoon, I found a ton of gorgeous options!

Here are my front-runners:

Rent the Runway Dresses.jpg

There are seriously so many beautiful options and I love that a bunch are $30-$40 to rent! I especially love the long red Badgley Mischka gown, but I worry that I would ruin the bottom of it when I dance my face off at the wedding…

I also found myself gravitating toward dresses that are not normally my style at all (like option D with the open back and option E with the tulle), but I think that’s part of the fun of renting a dress instead of buying one!

A few things really stood out to me as I browsed around the Rent the Runway (<—affiliate link!) website:

  • Real people upload pictures of themselves in the dresses which I think is amazing and super helpful when trying to select a size
  • When you rent a dress, you will receive two sizes to help ensure that the dress will fit
  • You can sort by so many different categories, including the level of formality, desired neckline, color, body type, occasion, etc.

Now I ask you…

Which dress should I choose!?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Honestly, love them all! Is it a formal wedding? For some reason, dress C really catches my eye 🙂

I loooove Rent the Runway! It’s so fun! I’ve done it once, and I actually rented the red Badgley Mischka gown that you have shown! It’s a really, really beautiful gown. I loved it so much and it was so comfortable. It was long though, I should have gotten the petite (I’m 5’4, about 108 lbs). I brought double-sided tape with me, in the event that this happened, and I just made my own hem with the tape! Worked like a charm, just took a bit of time.

I looove RTR, I use it for most weddings especially this summer when it was the same group of friends at 3 weddings! or for black tie events where investing in a dress isn’t worth it. My vote is B/H or G!! Those have a more fall/winter vibe to them. Have fun 🙂

    Hi,

I’ve used Rent the Runaway a few times and I do love it. The only warning I will give to you about the tulle dress- I chose one for a recent wedding and the reviews all said it was short so I was expecting that and planned accordingly…however I think the tulle got bunched up in the shipping and it was way way way shorter than I was comfortable with. As in, if I bent down, you would be able to see everything. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to get a backup dress so I had to go with Plan B and run to the mall but RTR was great in issuing me a credit!

Without knowing much about the wedding, Id say B or E (since its’ a different type of style for you!) would be awesome. I have used RTW for years and its never really let me down. In fact, I wore the A (pink dress) for the bachelorette party last thursday and a dress not shown (yellow lace) for the actual wedding. The A is pretty sexy (cut outs on the size, awesome zipper in the back) so I would have been out of place at a super formal wedding.

The worst part of RTW is falling in love with the dress (or dresses!) and then having to send them back, lol

Go with B! It is Glam but not too much because of the understated tone. I think it’s a great option for a Fall wedding! RTR is my favorite place to get dresses for weddings. Make sure to have your dresses delivered on a Thursday (assuming you have a Saturday wedding) so you can have them overnight you a new dress if your original pick doesn’t work out. They have great Customer Service. The Thurs delivery says it’s a “Sunday return” but since UPS doesn’t pick up on Sundays, you actually get an extra day 🙂

    I love B.

Did you double check the dates they are available? They suggest ordering to arrive the day before your event or in your case the day before you leave. Most of the ones I looked into were at least a two week lead time.

Hope you find a great one!!

I rented option F from Rent the Runway last year for a wedding and LOVED IT! It was extremely comfortable (especially for lots of dancing!) and had a bit of stretch to it so you won’t have to stress over which size to choose.

LOVE option B too, especially for fall!

I’ve used Rent the Runway twice. The first time I loved it. And the 2nd time my dress was awful, but they refunded me since I hated it 🙂
I would vote C, but is it too white for a wedding? I always shy away from white or cream or beige since I never know how much is too much.

I love ‘G’ – if the wedding is fancy enough, Go for it! Or try one of the dresses that aren’t your usual style. I think that is part of the fun of renting a dress! You’ll look gorgeous no matter which dress you choose!

    I love B and E.

B seems to be a style you’ve worn before so I am leaning more towards E. I was at a wedding two weekends ago and bought a dress similiar to E. It has the same tulle that puffs out a little and at first I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but once I tried it on, I loved it! There is something about a dress that has a little flounce and puff that is FUN!

    Have fun!

I am so in love with Rent the Runway! It’s a wonderful service and I’ve rented 6 different times in the last year or so. Their customer service is OUTSTANDING as well, which is always such a plus! It’s like having the best closet ever and I rent over buy all the time now.

And my vote is for G. I rented the same dress in kelly green earlier this year and loved it. It’s comfortable and flattering, and so elegant! It’s pretty sturdy, so I wouldn’t worry about dancing too much! 🙂

I love RtR and rent dresses frequently. Of your options, I like B and E the best. A warning that I actually rented the long Badgley red dress and the dresses that came (a 2 and a 4, I think) were pretty damaging (broken zipper, hole in the back). I think it’s a really popular dress and the long gowns tend to get beat up (stepped on, etc). I ended up going with a different gown I got as back-up.

Just coming back to say, that I put a post up today and you can see the pink dress there! I loved it but wore it more for a night out on the down (maybe too sexy for wedding?). You may have already made a decision by now, but figured it was worth throwing out there in case you wanted to take a peek!

D or B. I would worry that the lighter color sequins might be too sparkly. If you chose the fun back then you can wear your hair up too and not worry about it when you’re dancing.
