Craving a Stretch

July 11, 2013 by Julie 67 Comments

Good morning!

I was up dark and early again this morning for another early shift at the gym. The gym was pretty much dead today. Apparently it was Sleep In Day in Ocala! I’m jealous!

My shift passed by quickly and I had fun chatting with a few members about a challenge our gym is implementing to encourage members to try new programs and take advantage of some of the fun summer activities that are available to everyone for free. Though I have a quick 45 minute break right now that allowed me to run home really fast, I will be back at the gym personal training and teaching water aerobics very soon.

As for my own workout, I’m also hoping to make it to a yoga class for my own workout this evening. At the very least, I’d like to do a yoga DVD at home (I really enjoy Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Workout), but that’s a little challenging with the At Home Workout Destroyer lingering. I’m craving a good stretch!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was a bowl of overnight oats that I prepared last night and ate about an hour into my shift. I am now digging into breakfast number two, a chocolate peanut butter protein smoothie.

Since I am teaching water fitness in two hours, I didn’t want to eat a heavy lunch before class, so I figured a smoothie would hold me over until I can dig into lunch when my class is over at 2 p.m.

Time to get rollin’!

Question of the Morning

  • For those of you who pack meals or snacks to bring to work, when do you pack everything up?

If I need to be at work before 5 a.m., I always pack the food I will need the night before. I am not about to take the time to put together breakfast or lunch at 4:30 a.m.! If I am working after 8 a.m., I’ll usually eat breakfast at home and pack my lunch that morning.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I have everything ready to go the night before, but usually make the sandwich I am bringing the morning of, so it doesn’t get gross.

If I don’t pack my breakfast and lunch the night before, I’m useless. Sometimes I can rush around and throw something together in the morning, but usually I don’t have time. Although this morning I whipped up scrambled egg whites and spinach to bring to work! I was so proud and it ended up being delicious.

I pack my lunch the night before. I find I am much more likely to make healthier choices if I have planned ahead! The hard part is breakfast…I like fresh food in the morning, but hate waking up 15-20 minutes earlier to prep it. I’m going to have to give the overnight oats a try – you’re various recipes all look delicious and easily transportable!

I eat breakfast at home after my workout but I pack my lunch and snacks the night before. I actually make a bunch of lunches (usually salads) on Sunday afternoon and just add snacks and things when I pack it in my lunch bag. My mornings are too crazy trying to get my workout in, eat, shower, get dressed and walk my pup I couldnt imagine having to make lunch too!

It’s always that morning. In a rush, after I should have left. 🙁 I NEED to get better at prepping my lunches!

I go into work at 2pm, so I usually make and pack my dinner and snacks while I’m making my at home lunch.

I will have some things packed and ready the night before or at least prepped and ready to be quickly wrapped up. Like I peel whole carrots and have a container of them in the fridge ready to grab one and quickly wrap it in the morning. I have a container of washed and prepared grapes in the fridge and I have a little container I grab a handful and pop them in. For breakfasts I will try and make them for the whole week and have it in little containers ready to grab. Lunch is a mixed bag, if it is leftovers I will have a portion ready to go, or I may prep something quickly before work in the morning.

I always find I have a better day of eating (yes, day of eating. Some days I feel like I start eating the minute I get up, and don’t stop until it is time for bed! My body thrives on 6 small meals, so my lunch bag is often HUGE) when I pack it the night before. Does it always happen? No. Often I have the choice of eating breakfast or packing my meals for the rest of the day, if I don’t do it the night before, and that is a bad habit to get into!

I’m on summer vacation now (my last one before I graduate college!), but I always pack meals the night before when I’m off to work and/or school the next day. During my six-week summer A schedule, I sometimes packed breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks! Needless to say, I invested in good lunchbox materials.

Some of my favorite portable breakfasts are overnight oats and smoothies. I also have an entire section of my blog dedicated to portable meals, which I call the (almost) grownup lunchbox series. Check out all the recipes at http://www.hungrygatorgal.com/p/recipes_287.html 🙂

I don’t know how you do those early mornings! I teach, and usually like to be at school by 7:15 or 7:20 so I have a little time to sign in, get coffee, and get my thoughts together before kids start arriving at 7:45. I usually just put lunch together as I’m in the kitchen making dinner the night before. If I’m feeling ambitious, I’ll get breakfast together too. THe less I have to remember when rushing out the door in the morning, the better. If it’s all there, ready and waiting for me, my day usually begins much more smoothly!

Like most, when the kiddos are in school, I normally prepare lunches for everyone the night before and make sandwiches the morning of for the kiddos. On Sundays, I sometimes make casseroles, freeze them in small containers and put them in the fridge the evening before so my husband and I have lunch ready to go. One question, I’ve been meaning to ask you Julie? With your early morning, what time do you and hubby normally go to bed. In my case, our kiddos go to bed at 8 p.m. and my 9ish I am ready to hit the sack, though my husband is the last to go to bed.

My shifts alternate between 6a-2p or 2p-10p. If I’m working the day shift, I’ll definitely pack my breakfast and lunch the night before. I usually hard boil a dozen eggs at a time so I can always grab them for a quick breakfast or snack. If I work the evening shift, I’ll make dinner during the day so the hubby has something to eat when I’m not home and I can pack it for work!

I always try and have my lunch all packed up the night before. Or at least all the components of my lunch chopped up and ready to be tossed together. It is apart of my Sunday pre-day to make sure there is enough food ready for me to toss together for a weeks worth of lunches.
