Currently: July 2026

July 21, 2026 by Julie 2 Comments

Hi friends! I’m coming to you this morning before we hit the ground running! It’s another camp-free week over here but our day will be a full one thanks to all-day pool plans we have on the agenda with some of our best friends. I’m hoping to squeeze in a quick workout and a walk with Comet before we head out so let’s get this blog post rockin’! I’m feeling chatty and a little scattered today so how about a chatty, scattered blog post!? A “Currently” style blog post is calling my name today, so let’s catch up with a collection of things currently going on around here.

Currently: July 2026

  • Currently Reflecting On: World Cup Joy!

world cup 2026 homemade flags

To say our family enjoyed the World Cup this year is a huge understatement. The boys’ natural interest in soccer coupled with so many games airing at decent times for us to view them live and the collective joy of the world coming together to root for their favorite country (and then their second favorite, third favorite, and so on) was just so fun! The boys loved picking a team and learning all about the players and the countries and Ryder in particular got really into the flags, drawing and coloring team flags for every game once we hit the quarter finals. We also loved hosting a group of 30ish friends at our house on Sunday for the final match even if it was waaay less exciting than the third place game the day before (how wild was that!?)!

I think a huge part of the joy of the World Cup extends beyond soccer as the boys broke out the interactive LeapFrog Magic Adventures globe toy we’ve had for years nearly every day to find the countries competing that day. They’d walk into the kitchen spouting new facts about the countries competing and proudly proclaim who they were rooting for and the various reasons why that country was “their team” now.

Now I’m left with one question: What are we going all-in on next!? We love the Olympics in our house, too, but we’ve got another two years before those happen again so let me know what we’re all cheering for next because we’d love something fun to fill this World Cup void!

  • Currently Reading:

By Myself: The Calamity Club by Kathryn Sockett

This loooong book came very highly recommended by a couple of my college friends. I just started reading it and while I have no idea where it’s going, I’m enjoying it so far. There’s no denying Kathryn Sockett is a talented writer.

With the Kids: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing Series by Judy Blume

The very first book I remember a teacher reading aloud in class when I was a kid Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and the little brother Fudge-centered books that followed. I lucked into finding a couple at our local used book store and couldn’t wait to read them with the boys because I remembered thinking they were so funny as a kid.

The humor of these books certainly holds up BIG time as our kids absolutely crack up at Fudge’s antics and the silly things that happen in these books. But now, as a mom and as a picky parent, I am finding I have to alter the way some of the characters speak to each other as they can be quite disrespectful and the way even parents and kids communicate back and forth in the book isn’t my favorite. (I’ve also heard there’s a Santa spoiler in the Superfudge book so we’ll be skipping that chapter because we’re a Santa fam.) Anyway, I say all this to say, they’ve been really fun and nostalgic for me to read with the boys even though I’ve had to be a little creative as the narrator.

  • Currently Exercising: When I Can

(Top: Splits59 / Leggings: Nike but old)

Do you guys feel like you’re more or less consistent with exercise during the summer months? Travel, hosting friends and family and minimal camps for the boys means my normal routines are basically blown up in the summer making exercise all over the place. I’ve found a groove that works for me and it’s commiting to four days a week when we are home. Anything else is just icing on the cake! I’m still very much enjoying Madeline Moves’ Weekly Moves app. I am exclusively doing the 30-minute version versus the longer option and feel like this is a better and more realistic/managable fit for me. I will also pepper in my own workouts from time to time and it’s working well for the summer.

  • Currently Drinking: All The Things

I love a fun beverage and have a few in my current rotation that I’m loving:

Morning: Whole Milk Latte

whole milk latte

(Mug: Anthropologie)

My favorite drink of the day! Some days I make my latte with Purity Balance coffee and other days, when I need a bigger boost, I’ve been reaching for Everyday Dose Protein+ Coffee and then I mix it with frothy whole milk to make my morning latte. (I always add collagen to my coffee, too.) I love that the Everyday Dose coffee is more than just coffee; it contains lion’s mane mushrooms (to support cognitive clarity without jitters as well as long-term memory and brain health) chaga mushrooms (delivers prebiotics and probiotics to support balanced immune response) and is third-party tested for potency and mold, heavy metals, and toxins. Plus, this single cup of coffee when made with Organic Valley protein plus whole milk has 30+ grams of protein. That’s no small amount of protein when you’re someone like me who is forever on the struggle bus when it comes to eating protein.

Mid-Morning: Iced Matcha Latte

protein matcha latte

As a forever extra hot latte lover, I’m shocking myself by loving iced matcha lattes this summer. I credit my friend Merri for turning me onto them during her visit this summer! I make mine by using a stick frother to combine either Morning Made vanilla matcha powder or Tejari matcha vanilla protein powder (if I’m wanting a protein boost) with milk and then overloading it with ice. YUM. (Note: For anyone else who struggles with the sweeteners used in most protein powders, I absolutely LOVE that this one only uses date powder for sweetness.)

All Day: Electrolyte Water + Creatine

electrolytes

(Tumbler: BruMate)

I jump around a lot when it comes to which electrolytes I add to my water but I always add them because they make such a difference for me when it comes to adequate hydration. Drinking flavored water is a million times more appealing to me and keeps me sipping all day long. My current favorite electrolytes: Promix Salted Watermelon and Lemon Lime and Ultima Pink Lemonade (my go-to for years — I order through Thrive Market). I used to add 5mg of creatine to my morning coffe but felt like I could taste it so I began adding it to my electrolyte water and now I cannot taste it one bit.

  • Currently Wearing: Comfy Lightweight Pajamas + Skatie Dress Love

First up: The pajamas!

(Pajamas: Amazon top + bottoms / Slippers: Brunch)

Remember those feels-like-nothing pajamas I raved about that I found on Amazon? The ones that rivaled the luxuriously lightweight Negative pajamas I was gifted? (To be clear I adooore my Negative pajamas but think the pricepoint is crazy high for something you sleep in.) Well I have good news: The Amazon line of pajamas has further expanded and includes everything from camis and oversize + tighter tees to shorts and more. I added this cami tank to my summertime pajama collection and love this lightweight set so much.

Also, don’t sleep on stores like Nordstrom Rack and TJMaxx for summetime pajamas. I recently got these two sets — this yellow set and this patterned set — size medium in both. The tw0-piece sets were under $20 and absolutely adorable. I’ve felt so frumpy in old tees and saggy old shorts and these make me feel better even if it’s mostly just me and my family seeing them!

And now, THE dress!

skatie dress

(Dress: Skatie / Sandals: TKEES / Purse: Amazon)

I am convinced the designers who create the dresses over at Skatie are masters of the flattering silhouette. I haven’t slipped on a dress that made me feel as good as this one from Skatie in ages. It’s made of the coolest mesh material that somehow drapes over your body in a crazy-flattering way. I love, love, love it! I am wearing a small and think it fits true to size, especially if you are smaller up top than on the bottom. Skatie, please make this in more colors, I beg of you!

  • Currently Anticipating: Key West

Woohoo for more family time! We’re taking the boys to Key West for scuba diving and snorkeling and fishing and swimming and all the HOT summer fun with my parents for a few days. We’ll be celebrating Chase’s 11th birthday while we’re there and to say he’s thrilled to be celebrating his birthday in the Keys is the understatement of the year. I’ll take all the Key West recommendations you guys want to send my way since your recommendations have helped us plan pretty much every family vacation we’ve taken  — truly!

  • Currently Visiting: Sloomoo Institute in Charlotte

Over the weekend, Ryan and I took the boys to check out the newly opened SlooMoo Institute in the city! We were invited to see what all the hype was about at this interactive contemporary slime museum on opening day and the boys were all about it. We arrived and created our slime names (your name with the letters “oo” replacing every vowel) and then we were released into a world of sensory fun where the boys played in various slime spaces. Their favorite space was the DJ slime space where you could control music with the slime in front of you! We also loved creating our own slime to bring home; choosing the texture, scent, colors and mix-ins made it feel like a true treat!

The space itself is not large and I initially thought we’d fly through it, but somehow we spent nearly 2 hours at SlooMoo, mainly because the boys were all-in on playing and creating. (I can see how older kids might breeze right through this one though!) My one con on the experience is that I think tickets are overpriced. It does look like ticket prices vary, so if we were to go again, we’d plan on a weekday to save money because weekend ticket prices are rather high for a relatively short experience in a small(ish) facility.

Current Watching: America’s Sweethearts

The show I mentioned on Friday! I call this my little brain break of a show. It’s such a fun one and the perfect one to stream during my at-home workouts. I also have Five Star Weekend on my radar to begin when I’m done. I remember loving the book when I read it a few years ago and I adore Jennifer Garner, so I have high hopes for that one.

The women’s World Cup is next year and every bit as fun as the men’s! Great for viewers of all genders to celebrate all athletes! But I agree, there is a void currently! 🙂
