When Ryan and I went to bed last night, we set the alarm for 6:30 a.m. rather than the usual 5 a.m. Ryan wanted to take the day off and I figured I’d take Sadie for a run when I first awoke.
Well, pancakes sounded more appealing than a run when the alarm went off and by the time I typed up my morning blog post and sent off a couple of important emails, the temperatures were in the mid-80s and only climbing. Not ideal for a heat-sensitive pup!
Okay, I just wasn’t feelin’ a run.
I assumed today would just turn into a rest day, but when I saw that my gym offered an early afternoon Zumba class, I decided to take advantage of the class and move my booty after spending the day parked in front of the computer.
Typically the Zumba classes at my gym take place in the gymnasium, but today’s class was in a back room that unfortunately had mirrors. Let’s just say no one needs to see this girl trying to Zumba around the room… especially this girl. My dance moves should only be seen by intoxicated people in a controlled environment, such as a club, bar or wedding dance floor.
(Hiiii Laurel. In our defense, this was a cowboys and camo social in college.)
(Air guitar with the help of Ryan. Obviously. And I have no idea what I am wearing.)
(Puppy Sadie!)
(Yes, we managed to find a bar in Miami that gave out styrofoam cups. It was awesome.)
The moves is my repertoire are a pathetic (but enthusiastic!) sight. Fortunately, I’m pretty darn positive no one watches each other during Zumba and just focuses on the instructor, so I’m fairly certain everyone’s eyes were spared.
Lunch
Before Zumba, I made myself an early lunch.
I prepared a plate of salmon salad with leftover salmon from last night’s dinner, plus red pepper, corn, mushrooms, light mayo, Dijon mustard and dill.
Served with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts!
As part of the Best Body Boot Camp program I am following, participants are encouraged to make two weekly goals. My goals for this week are to drink a ton of water and fill half of my plate with vegetables during at least two meals of the day. So far, so good! (Just FYI for those who have asked, Tina announced plans for another boot camp that will start in October today!)
I rounded out my meal with a small bowl of white chocolate covered pretzels for something sweet.
Sweet plus salty in all its glory!
Question of the Afternoon
- Please tell me about your dance moves. In detail. Should they be seen by all? Seen by none? Seen only by drunk people who can fully appreciate their majesty?
My dancing should only ever be seen by drunk people, as it never really happens unless I am at least as intoxicated as the other people dancing. Also of note, I should never be wearing heels while doing it!
~Cat
Puppy Sadie is SOO Cute! Um, who could forget Spice Girls dance moves!? I must have done that Posh arm 100’s of times.
my dance moves should 100% only be seen by drunk people–including myself.
I think there is a 5 drink minimum for my dance moves. I might think they are rocking but I doubt the general public agrees. My dance moves are very random and a little crazy-especially after a couple drinks (they don’t call it liquid courage for nothing).
ha ha ha. this post made me laugh. i love it. 🙂
There is definitely a 2 drink minimum before I start busting out the moves . . . lol.
Hey Julie!! Thought you might want to read this article based on your dippy egg consumption!!!
http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2012/08/15/is-eating-egg-yolks-as-bad-as-smoking/?hpt=hp_c2
being a theater and dance major in college, you would think my moves would be, uhm, at least somewhat professional? but no matter what i do, when i hear a song i like it just turns into some weird hybrid of the running man / cotton eyed joe…at least im enthusiastic!
One of the best things about Zumba is that making a fool of yourself is required. At least in every Zumba class I’ve been in, the teachers haven’t stressed the dancing aspect but the having fun aspect.
I LOVE to dance, however, I can only hold the beat for half of the song. I have to take a second and catch it again LOL! I am not that creative either, I just have a few go-to moves, My boyfriend’s dance in HILARIOUS! He shimmys his shoulders and head a bit. I can’t look at it when I dance or I will bust up laughing.
hmm well when i drink I think I am a phenomenal dancer but truly I am not. My signature move: I always raise a hand in the air, everyone makes fun of me for it and when the booze is flowing my arm does not stop waving!
Well, I do not think of myself as a dancer. However, I’ve seen some people’s moves and then I think ….I’m not half bad! My sister has perfected the one arm up the whole time dance. I use that as my back up move.
Peas in a pod, friends. We are all peas in a pod! I’ve been told – Oh, no! Don’t do that! Those moves in public. My moves are my moves. What can I say? Somewhere between Elaine from Seinfeld and Napoleon Dynamite… With the occasional inspired move 🙂
Thanks for the share!
Haha I love your description of your dance moves. I can certainly relate! I am not much of a dancer either, but still have so much fun when I do it. No one should be looking though. 😉
hahaha my dancing should only be seen by people who have been drinking :p I tend to dance like the girl from the SunDrop commercials
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL9wZZMCzyQ
Haha you just gotta have fun. Even if you look goofy dancing, you are at least having a good time! And I personally think people sitting in the corner judging all of the dancers look even worse than the dancers!
I think as long as you are having fun when you are dancing, who cares if people see! I am by no means a good dancer, but with a little liquid encouragement, it doesn’t matter! 😉
PS- my favorite dance move is something my girlfriends & I like to call the “white girl”… it’s when you and your friends are standing around in a circle while everyone else is cutting rugs around you and you just start bobbin’ your head, and then slowly get more and more into the music and then basically spaz out into a full- blown ridiculous dance party. We like to have fun!!! And that’s all that matters! If I had a blog I would post a video of some sort… but it’s probably best (for your eyes) that I don’t haha 🙂
bahahahaha….classics 😉
Puppy Sadie!! OMG! SO Cute!!!
My only move is the booty smacking dance. That’s how badly I dance!
I love your dance moves:-)
I like to think I am pretty good at dancing! And I have been told I am not bad on occasion. I tend to be a bit uncoordinated so the first few times I learn a dance I look a little spastic but after a few times I am all good. I adore Zumba and am considering getting my certification. I think with Zumba it is all in the hips!!
I’m thinking my dance moves would end up online and not in a good way. Probably more like the plump boy doing DDR that face planted at the end because he was going too fast.
Oh my goodness, puppy Sadie is a tiny little nugget!
I actually used to think I was a good dancer, and wanted to be a dance teacher when I was ten, but everyone was against it. My mom said I had no rhythm, so I stopped taking dance. Checking out my moves during dance training when I was in Summer Stock in college, I wasn’t terrible! Having not danced in many years, though (okay, three), I feel like dancing is just a dream that should be left to the Zumba class.
My dance moves should be seen by only my husband and my dog in our house. I am a HORRIBLE dancer and will only dance when properly intoxicated.
I love all the puppy pics you have been posting of Sadie! She is ADORABLE!! That is my only regret of adopting an adult dog, no puppy pictures!
You look cute dancing!!
What white chocolate pretzels do you buy? They look delicious!!
I did a zumba class last night….and i feel the exact same way hahaha :]
I am a dancer, and always have been 😉
I teach Zumba, and I can say that people only look at 1. the instructor or 2. themselves. ALWAYS. SO have no fear, you can shake it all you want! 😉
You look like you’re having SO much fun in all of those photos! I’ve never taken a zumba class, but I started a belly dancing class this summer and I was VERY self-conscious at first. But then I realized that everyone was that self-conscious and so busy paying attention to themselves that no one was paying attention to me! Phew.
Your zumba experience sounds very similar to my body jam experience. No one should see that. But at least its fun.
That reminds me of “How I Met Your Mother” — hilarious show! Haha, have you ever seen it? 🙂
As for my dance moves.. I have rhythm, but I also have the weirdest moves! 😉
I’m a big “whooo” girl. #embarrassing
Ha – puppy Sadie is so freakin’ cute.
Ugh, I would hate to know what I dance like at bars. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by intoxicated people who are (hopefully) dancing worse than I am. 🙂
I tend to amuse/embarrass those around me…
Dancing is so much more fun when you just don’t care though. So, that’s how I roll. I do a lot of awkward arm movements. It’s a good time.
When I did a lot of Zumba, my dance moves got better. Now that I do less Zumba, I’m so much more rickety. It’s sad. 🙁
My husband pulled out all his moves at our wedding 2 weeks ago…he did the one legged wonder, the lawn mower and “caught butterflies” which is basically reaching up into the air and pretending to catch something. It was hilarious, we’ve seen our pictures already and he was really breaking it down…can’t wait to see our video!
I love Zumba! I’m better at choreographed dances than I am at freestyle. I danced for years when I was younger though.
i’m athletic, as it seems most people are who read your blog and i, very much like a lot of others who commented have dance moves which are somewhat hazardous to those around me…i find it so funny that even though you can be in amazing shape and workout regularly, you can still manage to have two left feet. I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂 SOOOOO happy to hear about the boot camp, I’ll be needing motivation come october can’t wait!
I avoid Zumba just for that reason. I got no moves!
My dance moves should be seen by NO ONE but my dog (and I feel he is secretly judging me for their awfulness too). I have the Zumba DVD and feel okay about myself in the privacy of my living room with the blides drawn. But out in the world is a different story. My gym offers daily Zumba classes and I would love to try one, but I fear I would be asked to never enter the gym again… 😉
i LOVE to dance – although I don’t think I’m as good as I really think I am!
Haha what a funny topic!! Like almost everyone else, my moves should only be seen by the alcohol intoxicated. I tend to get all hopped up and do this thing I call “the starfish” which means spreading my arms and legs out as far as possible and whipping my head back in forth…..it is fun to do but sooo sad to watch haha!
Are you interested in running a marathon? I am sure you have answered this from other fans but I have not come across it.
i am, but in the WAAAAAAAY distant future. not any time soon. 🙂
YAY to puppy Sadie. I’ve always wanted to see pics of her as a pup!!
Hey Julie! I was wondering if you could do a post on how you decided to get a dog and all of the factors you put into the decision. I am currently living with my boyfriend and we are considering adopting a dog, and I’m just curious if you were surprised at how much responsibility it requires, how much it costs, how you decided on a breed, etc. Thanks!
I would love a post for potential dog adopters!! My husband and I are thinking about it, but taking our time because we knows it’s a big decision! Any tips you could offer would be great!
Can you dedicate an entire post to Sadie as a puppy! Haha, that picture is ridiculously cute 🙂
My dancing is always induced by copious amounts of alcohol. I was thinking about my dancing style after a wedding we went to recently, and I realized I pretty much copy what someone else is doing… otherwise I just do an awkward side toe tap with arms swinging.
I do NOT have dance moves. I hardly even dance at weddings because it’s just not pretty…HA!
This picture speaks for itself. Luckily, I now have photographic evidence of my sweet dance moves thanks to The Pioneer Press who managed to capture this image during my senior year of high school’s turnabout dance.

It was also published in the newspaper. Ohhh yeaaaaah.
My dance moves are AWESOME! At least, they are in my head! I’ll keep on pretending I’m J.Lo until someone tells me different. 🙂
yes, only by drunk people, obviously…. only by them…. people are always more tolerant to people who look and move lake them…. 😉
I took Zumba for the first time on Tuesday and I think I ended up looking like a spider having a seizure 🙂 I may try again if I can find a class where the instructor isn’t screaming at me-not my type of motivation!
