Dead Ants = No Water

September 26, 2011 by Julie 64 Comments

Tonight’s dinner came together in a flash thanks to some prep work this weekend. My mother in law’s boyfriend and I cooked up a batch of homemade chicken soup and all I had to do this evening was reheat it and add noodles to the broth.

Our noodles of choice?

Little baby noodle bits!

They make chicken noodle soup so much fun.

Ryan is actually quite a bit sniffly this evening, so I’m hoping this soup has the healing powers most chicken noodle soups seem to possess.

In case you’re in the market for an awesome chicken noodle soup recipe, I highly recommend my mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup. It’s happiness in a bowl.

Dead Ants = No Water

The rest of our evening was spent outside with Sadie.

While playing in the backyard, we turned on the hose to water some flowers and the water stopped. When we went inside all of the water in the house was off, too! This was bad news since I was fermenting and still hadn’t showered after this morning’s workout. (I’m disgusting, I know.)

After reading the packet of information about the home that the owner’s left us, we read that sometimes dead ants get into some circuit and cause the water to turn off. By the time we realized we might be able to fix the issue, it was dark outside, so Ryan grabbed his headlamp (he loves any excuse to use that thing) and we headed out back with an old tooth brush (as instructed!) and brushed the dead ants off the circuit.

When we came back inside and turned of the faucet, we had water again.

And I am now freshly showered, curled up on the couch ready to watch The Sing Off.

Bring on the a cappella! Smile

Not showering after a morning workout is nothing. I have every other Friday off work, so after washing my hair post-workout on Thursday morning, I don’t bother to wash it again until Sunday night because there is always another workout 12 hours away.

    Yeah I’m just that cool.

I hope Ryan starts to feel better soon. Did you know its actually the freshly ground pepper (and sometimes other spices) that’s added to the chicken noodle soup that helps you feel better and recover from a cold? The compound piperine in the black pepper acts as an antioxidant to the body but also helps to loosen secretions in the respiratory tract and it is also beneficial against bacterial growth particulary in the intestinal tract.*
So make sure you add some black pepper to the chicken noodle soup!!
*This is information that I remember getting from a college medicinal chemistry class that I took. You can also google Black Pepper medicinal uses and learn more about what scientists believe it can help.

I went through rush, well sort of. I got dropped by my last house the second to last round, it felt great for my confidence. My three other roommates are going to bid night tommorow and I am happy for them, but I’m bummed I didn’t get picked by my top or any other. It’s weird because I felt when I was talking to them I had such a good connection, yet the house dropped me. I really don’t get the system of dropping people. I know you ares upposed to “fit” in the house, but I’m honestly a genuine, nice, caring person and it seems as if no one really cared about that. I would try talking to some girls who were rushing and they gave me the cold shoulder, yet they are going to be getting a house. I don’t understand as to what is so different from my roommates to me that made the house think I wouldn’t belong. I was looking forward to building great relationships and having fun with a group of girls because as a second year I feel as if I still don’t have that close group of friends but friends from various clubs. Sorry for the rant, but it just, well, sucked, to be dropped.

that is awful. 🙁 i’m so sorry! the good news is a LOT of houses have spring rush, so if you’re still interested, i’d definitely look into rushing in the spring. and honestly, you don’t want to be part of a group of people that don’t see YOU for YOU anyway. there are SO many other ways to build amazing friendships and great connections on campus. thinking of you!

Thanks. Tonight was bid night and 3 of my roomates are in the same sorority Chi O. THey already have things tommorow like pancake night, I would have loved to go to that! This weeekend there doing a bunch too and next weekend. I do have other clubs on campus but it’s a bummer that I got dropped. I was looking forward to having a close knit group of girls as friends and doing fun stuff on weekends. A lot of the club people hang out otuside of club events together but I just see most of them at club events. About 600 girls rushed for 7 sororites and my roomate’s sorority accepted 76 I think? I don’t think they have spring rush here, but I feel if they didn’t like me the first time why would they the second?

I am also guilty of working out in the morning and “fermenting” until evening :X haha..and I got a forehead bruise from wearing my headlamp fishing one night 🙁 I was crazy excited to use it, too!! But between the strange bruise and the light attracting a sh*t ton of bugs to swarm my face, I gave in and turned it off, although, I think mr. Headlight and I could be good friends..evening run perhaps?
