Did You Watch?

April 29, 2011 by Julie 103 Comments

Okay, who watched it???

ap_prince_william_kate_rings_dm-110428_ssh

Seeing as how I’m the girl who dragged the recap of her own wedding into eleven separate wedding recap posts, you better believe I tuned in!

I watched the royal wedding at the gym this morning, along with pretty much everyone else. I laughed when I looked around the cardio area and saw every single person’s television tuned into the ceremony… Well, everyone except Ryan. Don’t worry though because I made sure to give him the play-by-play as we ran on side by side treadmills, which  I know he appreciated.

Ryan and I both had to laugh when we arrived at the gym this morning because the woman who always scans our gym cards is British and when I asked her if she was excited about the royal wedding, she vehemently said, “Nah! It’ll never last! She’s a commoner!”

I’ve read in numerous articles that Price William choosing to marry a “commoner” is a big deal, but I guess that as an American I didn’t realize that it was that big of a deal. Ryan and I laughed with the woman at the front desk as she explained this to us. She’s so sassy and had quite a lot to say!

I really enjoyed watching the royal wedding and it truly was gorgeous, but I also felt like it was so impersonal. I loved taking the time with Ryan to write our own ceremony and make the day about us and our commitment to each other. The royal wedding seemed like too much of a formality and didn’t focus enough on the relationship between William and Kate for my liking.

Of course I must add that the whole affair was beyond stunning and very classy! Can you even imagine walking down that aisle? I would’ve puked if I were Kate from being so nervous!

Workout

My workout was quite uneventful since I basically crafted it around the royal wedding.

In the end my workout looked like this:

  • 15 min. run
  • 10 min. incline walk
  • 30 min. elliptical

I ran during the pre-wedding coverage so I wasn’t pounding away on the treadmill during critical times like the exchange of vows. Priorities!

Breakfast

After the gym, a 40-minute walk with Ryan and Sadie and a shower, it was breakfast time!

smoothie 002

In today’s smoothie:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. peanut butter
  • 1 scoop Gold Standard chocolate casein protein powder
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 pinches xanthan gum
  • 1 handful fresh spinach

smoothie 005

It was a good one! Chocolaty and peanut buttery. Great combo!

Time to work. YAY for FRIDAY!!!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

    I loved her dress!!

I always wonder if she could make the wedding more her own—or more “their” own. Or perhaps, that was HER wedding that she had been dreaming of (which couldve been since she is british).

Also, they are having their own party with Abba and disco balls. That sounds like fun!

Oh my gosh, I thought the EXACT same thing! I’m so glad that ours is much more personal…since we are writing our own vows & ring exchange. But I’m wondering if they kind of had to do it that way..since it’s such a big event..?
I LOVED her dress- it is GORGEOUS! She had such a nice modern flair on it, but still looked so incredibly classy 🙂

It’s funny because calling her a “commoner” makes her sounds like a peasant or something. When in fact she is quite a weathly “commoner”.

    I WATCHED IT! 😀
    I loved it!
There were special personal moments that were there, William made a joke with Catharine’s dad about it supposing to be a quiet family affair, Harry sneaking a peak at Catherine and saying to him “wait ’til you see her”.

I do think if they could have, they would have done a private ceremony, but they did the best with what they could! Now they’re going to have an amazing breakfast buffet! 😀

Loved everything about it! And even though it was impersonal, with 2.8 billion people watching or something crazy like that, I still felt that they had some personal moments in the midst of all the craziness! Like when Prince Harry cracked a joke as Kate was walking up, when Prince William saw Kate for the first time as she came up beside him, and when the ring gave them some trouble. It was actually fun to watch!

I think it will last BECAUSE she is a commoner (not despite of). To me that says true love story :). Plus, they’ve already been together for like 8 years… I guess we’ll see!

I only got to see the kiss. All my coworkers and I gathered around the TV as we drank our cup of jo =) I agree that it was not personal, but I think that is ok in their case. They are loved by the people. I guess when you are royalty there is no more “personal” about your life. Maybe they had a little, special “behind the scenes” moment that we do not know about =) I hope, for their case, they did… but all of those little girls in the crowd were thankful it was not personal because they got to be a part of it =) Happy Friday Julie!!!

i LOVE her dress. it is such an old school classy/glamorous dress. i figured she would be in something a tad bit more ‘sexy’ but i guess you can’t really pull that off when it’s a royal wedding. beautiful though!!

I agree with making the ceremony more personal, but I don’t think they are allowed to. I think they have to go through the formality. I think it’s nice that they are least get to have their reception without the entire world watching them! Plus, if they added more to the ceremony imagine how long it would have taken…as it is they said the procession was 4 hours! That’s crazy!

So happy for them though, their little kiss and exchange of words on the balcony was so sweet and you could tell that they truly are in love! Who cares if she is a commoner!

Even though the wedding was really formal I think that’s what made it so great. The royal tradition is something amazing to be apart of. I guess personally I think it would just be really cool to announce your union to the world and have everyone so excited as if they can be apart of the joy themselves. Then, on the honeymoon the two can finally get the personal intimacy they deserve.

I totally agree with your comments about the formality of the affair. In general, I think being a princess isn’t quite as glamorous as the fairy tales make it out to be! I’ll take my “commoner” life any day – at least I can run to the grocery store in sweat pants sans make up!
