Everybody's Working for the Weekend

August 6, 2010 by Julie 28 Comments

I really try to enjoy the workweek and make an effort not to wish weekdays away. I don’t want to wish five days of my life away each week, but sometimes I just can’t help hoping  for Friday to arrive a little faster than usual. 🙂

This week was one of those weeks because I have a super fun weekend ahead of me. My mom and sister are coming in town for a girl’s weekend to celebrate my mom’s birthday (which was back in July). Since my dad has a scuba trip planned this weekend and Ryan is off on his bachelor cruise, this seemed like a great weekend for some girly fun!

Just the Girls

The agenda for our girl’s weekend includes:

  • Dinner at a tapas restaurant
  • Cupcakes and presents
  • Wine tasting
  • Tea at the Ritz Carlton (Faaancy!)
  • Veil shopping
  • Church
  • Farmers’ Market

Woohoo! Let’s get this party started!

Lunch

When lunchtime rolled around I was a happy camper for two reasons:

  1. I love to eat.
  2. It meant the workday was half-way over!

My yummy lunch featured a noodle bowl made with Carba Nada egg fettuccine pasta, Parmesan cheese, one Laughing Cow light original Swiss cheese wedge and fresh arugula and spinach leaves.

Close Up of the Cheesiness

On the side I enjoyed a cup of Mott’s natural applesauce for a little sweetness.

The Spread

As Tony the Tiger would say, this lunch was grrrrreat!

Good news: Only a couple more hours until the weekend officially begins.

Can I get a yahoooooooo??? 😀

Question of the Afternoon

What is your favorite activity to do on a girls-only weekend?

I’m a simpleton and my favorite thing about girls-only weekends is lounging around in my pajamas just chattin’ with my favorite ladies.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I haven’t had a girls-only weekend in years! So much fun! I love lounging around, staying up late talking, watching movies and/or Sex and the City, playing board games, and fun things like that. I’m definitely in need of one of these – too bad my girls all live so far away. 🙁

Julie, this may sound like a dumb question, but did you eat your lunch hot or cold? I couldn’t tell by the picture, but it sounded like it may be good either way!

haha i eat them HOT – but this was taken BEFORE i microwaved it, which is why the cheese isn’t all melted & the spinach/arugulas isn’t steamed yet. 🙂

A perfect ladies’ weekend includes a fabulous dinner with wine, a night out on the town (all dolled up, of course) and a lazy morning the next day, watching Lifetime Network movies! A couple weeks ago I took my best girlfriend to a black-tie event (my boyfriend was out of town) and we had the time of our lives. Our photo even ended up in the local Business Journal!

Yay! I hope that you have fun, and of course, it goes without saying…take pictures! 🙂

For girly weekends, I love getting manis and pedis, grabbing a good lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, and seeing a chick flick. I love my husband, but I do love time with the girls!

When we’re all back in our hometown on break from school, my friends and I love to get together at our favorite Mexican restaurant, go see a movie at the dollar theatre, then have a sleepover, middle school style! With my college friends, we’ll go downtown for the evening to visit galleries and shops, then have a late dinner before catching a bus back to campus. And we do lotsa chick-flick-watching and ice-cream-eating in my dorm, girls weekend or not. Haha 🙂

My favorite girly activity is drinking champagne and getting my nails done. I don’t understand why men don’t love champagne just as much as women do!

i love just chatting with my friends… or eating ridiculous ‘desserts’ like frosting out of a can or cookie dough. it’s what we did in college… lol… now though i’d probably find it gross.

and i’m with you on the whole ‘not-wishing-5-days-of-my-life-per-week-away.’ it’s so hard to find pleasure all the time in the work/school week but i don’t want to wake up & be 75 wondering where all my life went. we just gotta find a balance i guess!

It sounds like you have a fun weekend planned 😀

My favorite girly activity is to watch really sappy romantic comedies while eating copious amounts of sweets. There’s nothing better than mocking Hollywood’s ridiculous notions of romance with a few girlfriends!

I really hate that I wish away the week, so I’m trying to get better. It’s just so hard to wake up early and be at work ALL day. I love the sleeping in and naps and lounging around that the weekend holds 🙂
