Fingers and Toes: Matching or No?

June 23, 2011 by Julie 94 Comments

In an effort to use up the chicken we had in our fridge before our weekend vacation to Atlanta, dinner tonight included freezer food + chicken!

I topped a Newman’s Own thin and crispy white pizza with chopped chicken breasts and split the pizza with Ryan.

Holy moly this pizza was good. I’m not sure what is in the white sauce that was on the Newman’s Own pizza, but it was smokin’!

Ryan and I ate our pizzas while missing Sadie. I think we’re a little too used to her grubby little face being all up in our business as we eat. Charming.

Fingers and Toes

After dinner, in preparation for our weekend in Atlanta, I gave myself an at-Okay, so I just painted my toes and slapped some of those new Sally Hansen salon effects nail polish strips on my fingers home manicure and pedicure.

(Side note: I’m not sure how it’s possible to have a freakishly small ring size – I’m a 4.5 – and still have manly looking hands. Somehow I defy the odds.)

The salon effects strips for your nails are pretty cool, but I think my lack of nail care experience made them harder for me to work with than they should’ve been.  My nails already look a little peely, and I know many other people who have used the strips and they’ve turned out perfectly. A few extra strips came in the kit so I may do some repairs in the car en route to Atlanta tomorrow.

When my nails were done I realized that while both my finger and toenails were pink, I made sure to make them different shades of pink. For some reason I am not a fan of matchy matchy fingers and toes. Is this weird?

Time to pack. Groooooooooan.

That pizza looks AMAZING! i’m going to have to try and find it here! And i think it’s soo not weird that you don’t like matchy matchy on your hands and toes. I always go for different colors but try and make sure they kind of go together. Does that make sense? For example, I had this cool yelow color on my toes and had coral on my hands. It looked awesome and although it didn’t match, it still matched!
Have an amazing time in Atlanta! Scuba diving with whale sharks sounds AMAZING! I even heard that you can ride them, kind of like a dolphin! You should totally try it and let me know how it is because I would totally be into that! :o)

Ever since I read Frederick Fekkai’s “A Year of Style,” I’ve never gone matchy matchy…Frederick would simply not approve!

Also, I just got engaged last weekend and my size 3.75 ring is too big 🙁 Baby hands unite!

It depends on the colour. Sometimes I match if it’s a fairly neutral shade, but never with bold colours. Then again…be sure not to get clashing shades! That’s almost as bad as matching!

oh, i’m so the opposite….very matchy matchy. it really bothers me if i’m not!! i’ve heard that you’re not supposed to, but i don’t care. it will drive me insane if they don’t match!

I used the Sally Hansen strips on my nails a couple weeks ago! They didn’t come out as perfect as I would have liked the first time. After a second time they turned out much better! I also felt like they lasted a little longer than regular polish!

My fingernails and toenails usually match if I do it at the same time but not usually if I do them at different times.

I ALMOST bought the sticker things at Ulta yesterday but chickend out. Let me know how long they last!

I used to be really anal about matching but now I almost never do! I prefer wearing a bright color on my feet and pale on my nails so it’s harder to tell when they chip 🙂

First off, love the mani and pedi…. I don’t think the have to match. I tend to like bright on my toes and neutral on my fingers. Second, I LOVE the Neuman’s Own brand. So far I’ve loved every product I try of theirs.

usually when i go to a salon for a mani/pedi, i have to get matchy matchy…then when my manicure chips i’ll change it and be non matchy ;p

have fun on your trip! sounds exciting!!!!

I cannot do matchy matchy fingers and toes. It just seems a little blue-haired-old-lady to me. I totally thought I was in the minority. I’m currently orange fingered and turquoise toed!

Besides the fact that my fingernails are almost never painted (working in the food industry will do that to you), I hate having matching nails. I get really adventurous on my toenails, but my finger nails are always pretty basic.

Just a warning, when I took off those strips on my nails, they left my nails really dry and I think they even took a layer off… so because they looked so bad I put on some nailpolish. Don’t do that! Because my nails were literally dyed pink until they grew out, despite my efforts to get it off!

I can’t ever do matchy – matchy – mostly bc I LOVE super bright pinks on my toes and I typically choose a more modest, work appropriate shade for my nails. A pastel or a light nude 🙂

I also have really tiny fingers, but they are long. I always get told I should play the piano. I wear a size 4 on my middle finger, but a size 4 is just a little too big for my ring finger so I think I might wear like a 3.75 or something.
My sister loves the strips for her nails. She claims they stay on longer than nail polish.

My fingers & toes never match! Nail polish needs to be done more frequently than toe nail polish & it would be annoying to have to keep them the same all the time!

I’m so with you there! I never match my fingers to my toes. I usually do a lighter shade pink on the fingies and a darker pink on the toes. Or sometimes I’ll do red toenails and a french mani fingernails – somehow they do have to go together, just not matchy-matchy.

I have the same feelings on toes and fingers matching. One time when I was probably like 14 or 15 I read in a magazine that painting toes and fingers the same color is tacky and I haven’t done it since. I like to do one darker color and one lighter color.

love those strips! I did my toes and nails last night..also using the sally hansen salon effects for the first time..except i didnt go a solid color..i went with zebra print (and hot pink polis for toes!). I did find it a bit hard to work with and I did chip about three nails but bc of the print its not noticable and like you said, I have extras so I can always repair if need be. I think it is also because it was our first time working with them and our lack of nail care experience that caused them to be this way. But hey! both your’s and mine still look nice!!! :o)

Speaking of color cordinatting toes and fingers…did you hear the latest passe’? Apparently, the new fashion OK is that the toes and fingers do not have to match but stay in the same color family. So, even tho it’s a different shade pink, it’s in that family so in all actuality, you are right up with the fashion do’s. 😉

I don’t mind matching fingers and toes, it totally depends on my mood. I usually go very subtle or subdued colors on my hands (to look professional) but my toes can be anything i’m in the mood for!

My biggest pet peeve in nails is french manicured toes!! It might just be me but that looks creepy/gross to me, maybe because it makes toe nails look so long!

I don’t necessarily dislike matchy matchy, but I rarely do it. Right now I have turquoisey-tealish-green on my hands & a sky blue on my toes and I’m obsessed with each. Those are 2 of my fave summer colors I can never choose between, so now I don’t have to :-D.

And I feel you SO much on the nail strips. I got one of the flowery patterns, so I think it helped conceal the flaws LOL, but I thought they were SO hard to put on. I loved the result, but I always wonder if everyone else is as bad as me at putting them on lol. I think I was born with zero fine motor skills! 😛

Ok I’m very happy to hear that you had difficulty with the Sally Hansen strips too! I bought them in that same shade to do in the car on my way to an out of town graduation. But I was surprised that a)they smell and b)they are not that easy! Everyone talks about how easy they are (including my 10 yr old cousin) but I just could not get the hang of it. Within minutes they were all peeling and by the time I got to dinner they had already come off- one in my mom’s hair when I was helping her fix it. Omg embarassing. Haha ok rant over! 🙂

I loooove Sally Hansen nail strips, i have the cheetah print ones on my fingers as we speak. The trick is, though, you have to put a clear coat of polish on top. Works like a charm and mine are still running strong after a week.
Hope your trip was fun 🙂
