Florida Strawberry Festival

March 5, 2011 by Julie 74 Comments

As expected, I had a berry good time this afternoon!

strawberry festival 003

strawberry festival 002

Woohoo for the Florida Strawberry Festival!

Late this morning, Ryan and I piled into his car and drove about an hour to Plant City for our very first trip to the Florida Strawberry Festival.

strawberry festival 004

We knew to expect rides, games and all kinds of fair-type foods, including all the fried foods you can dream of!

strawberry festival 014

strawberry festival 006

Fried cookie dough? Fried butter!?

strawberry festival 020

Our fried food mission was to find me an elephant ear. I had never even heard of elephant ears (basically a solid funnel cake for those of you also not in the know) until Ryan mentioned them to me a long time ago. We’ve seen funnel cakes galore at various events, but never  an elephant ear and it’s been on my “must try” list for way too long.

Today was the day!

strawberry festival 012

As demonstrated by my powdered sugar-covered sun dress, I think I liked it. Winking smile

strawberry festival 013

The strawberry festival had so many neat things to look at and eat. I felt like we were pointing at something new to see every second. From rides to games to animals to delicious-looking treats, the festival was really fun and very entertaining.

strawberry festival 026

I made a friend. Open-mouthed smile

strawberry festival 007

Yes, that is a booth for doughnut burgers!

strawberry festival 008

I’ve honestly never seen anything like the food at this festival. It was intense!

We played one game at the Strawberry Festival but mostly just enjoyed walking around and exploring the fairgrounds.

Of course we purchased our fair share of yummy food, including his and hers strawberry shortcake!

strawberry festival 017

strawberry festival 019

So, so good! We both licked our bowls clean.

Other treats included homemade root beer…

strawberry festival 029

strawberry festival 030

strawberry festival 031

Kettle corn…

strawberry festival 042

And strawberry and pineapple soft serve!

strawberry festival 037

strawberry festival 038

I liked all of our treats! We picked some good ones!

We browsed around and had fun goofing off for a couple of hours before finding our way back to our car.

strawberry festival 039

He makes me laugh. Smile

strawberry festival 005

Yeehaw!

Such a fun day! Apparently I was quite pooped after walking around for so long because I fell asleep on the car ride home. I’m an awful passenger on long car rides because I always fall asleep if the destination is more than 30 minutes away. It makes no sense to me because I’m a terrible napper!

Time to make a late lunch/early dinner. We both ate a ton of kettle corn which ruined our appetites for lunch at the festival, but now we’re feelin’ hungry.

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

All those treats look SO good, especially the elephant ear! My dad used to man the funnel cake booth every year at our local hospital fair. That stuff is straight up crack!

That looks like so much fun! Is an elephant ear another name for regular friend dough? Us in Boston have Fried Dough stands just about everywhere! They are so good with powdered sugar and cinnamon, but I’ve seen some crazy toppings that I found ruined the whole snack…like bacon, or pickles, eek! . But, to each their own lol. I’m glad you had fun!

So. Much. Fun. Did your elephant ear have cinnamon too? The one I ate a few years ago here in Arkansas did and was so sweet I could only finish a quarter of it!

I’m the exact same way in long car rides, after 30 minutes I’m out like a light – even though I pride myself in never needing a nap during the day. I’m sure my fiancé loves having control of the radio, though!

My mom used to take me to the Strawberry Festival EVERY year. I loved it! And I don’t like strawberries in any way, but I LOVED their strawberry soft serve there. SO delicious.
You make me want to go again!
Oh, on a completely unrelated side note, my friend bought a Groupon for a car detailing like you did and got the upgrade…and the place totally didn’t do the inside of her car either. I am definitely warned off of those Groupons! Not sure if it was the same place or not, but sheesh.
