First, breakfast! 😀
Despite the cooler weather, I was in the mood for a nice, cold smoothie this morning. I figured it’ll start to get a little too chilly for smoothies soon, so I should take advantage of the temperate weather and enjoy ’em while I still can.
I made myself a chocolate peanut butter cup green monster smoothie by combining the following:
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 large handfuls spinach
- 4 ice cubes
- 3/4 c. cold water
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1.5 tbsp. peanut butter
The best part about this smoothie?
It matched my pants!
In the above picture they don’t look that matchy-matchy, but I blame the sunlight because in real life they were almost dead on!

Now onto the oh-so-serious debate…
The other day I was talking with one of my coworkers about the gorgeous flowers she had at her desk.
Our conversation then turned into a debate about what women prefer to have sent to them from their significant other.
Chocolate?
Or flowers?
My answer was flowers. I can buy myself chocolate, but I’d feel totally goofy sending myself flowers at work. Plus, flowers last longer than a box of chocolate around me. 😉
I’ll never forget the time Ryan sent me a cookie bouquet at work. The bouquet was comprised of five large cookies which became my breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack that day. Turns out me and a cookie bouquet are a deadly combination.
Question of the Morning
Would you rather receive flowers or chocolate from a loved one?
Flowers for sure. For exactly the reason you said.
I agree about the flowers – you can’t buy them for yourself! And they are pretty too look at…the chocolate would be gone immediately!
I once received a fruit tray and clif bars from friends on my birthday instead of a cake…they know me too well!:)
CHOCOLATE! Hands down.
flowers all the way…i know the kind of chocolate i like and would want but flowers are always a real treat and surprise!
I’m not fond of either being sent to me, but I’ll accept them gratefully!
Definitely flowers. Although I would not mind a cookie bouquet either. 🙂
Flowers, for the reasons that you just said. I love having fresh flowers around. My b-day is in a week, maybe I’ll get some big pink roses . . .:)
Flowers! There is nothing like being surprised and having a goregous bouquet of flowers to look at to remind you how much you are loved. 🙂
CHOCOLATE! I’m an absolutely chocolate fanatic. I don’t care for flowers and they make me sneeze so bad.
Flowers, for sure! They can brighten my day so easily. Although, so can chocolate. 🙂
Flowers all the way! And they don’t just have to come from one person in the relationship! My boyfriend and I buy each other flowers every week, and it’s the most wonderful, romantic gesture. I buy HIM chocolate, but I’m not into it so he just sticks with flowers.
Flowers! They are so pretty. Who says you can buy them yourself? I’ve done it! I love myself, why not?!
i think you can absolutely BUY them for yourself… but i’d feel funny sending them to myself at work.
Definitely flowers!
Flowers all the way!
I can’t decide. I want both.
Flowers, 100% Especially at work because you don’t have to share them. 😉
Chocolate! Everybody buys it for me all the time – the kids I coach, colleagues, family…they know me well!
Flowers for me! Actually, I would really prefer an edible arrangement including chocolate covered strawberries! Yumm!
Definitely flowers:)
I love chocolate, but I agree with you – flowers are best as a gift!
Neither.
I eat the chocolate too fast, also. But I HATE receiving something as a present that is going to die.
My husband is smart and knows not to buy me either!
I think a really smart person would cover their bases by sending both. 🙂 I routinely buy myself flowers, but you’re right — I’d never send myself flowers at work. And getting them at work does make a gal feel ultra special. But then again, if we’re talking really gourmet, unique chocolate truffles… Well, that would beget some major points, too. But then I’d be pressured to share with coworkers, and if it’s good enough chocolate, I’m not going to want to do that. This is a tough question! Perhaps the answer is, deliver the flowers to work, and send the chocolates home where a girl can eat them in peace and solitude! 🙂
Definitely flowers!
Definitely flowers! I feel like you can appreciate them more, they last longer and are beautiful to look at so it keeps reminding you of that someone that sent them to you!
flowers…my sister and i have actually budgeted to get fresh flowers send to our place ever week(priorities, lol). it’s the best decoration ever and never fails to boost my mood a little.
that being said, i’m now randomly craving dove milk chocolate. i still stick with my original choice, though. <3
I’m going to say flowers for sure! But at the same time, the only flowers I have gotten have been the ugliest bouquets I have ever seen! I know it’s mean to say, but one literally looked like a brownie pan filled with dirt that had flowers with no stems shoved into it and a bunch of Halloween cut out things like ghosts and graves! It was scary….
Flowers. I’m fussy when it comes to chocolate (even though I am a chocaholic) I have allergies to cherries and coconut and I just don’t like a lot of the fillings that come in a box of chocolates so I’ll waste more than I’ll eat.
Flowers. 100%
Though I’m a chocolate FREAK, I think flowers are sweet 🙂
FLOWERS!!! They last longer and have less calories than chocolate 🙂
Flowers!!! I LOVE the peonies picture! Those were my wedding flower and Keith always gets me a huge bouquet on our anniversary!
Chocolate covered flowers…I kid, I kid. Definitely flowers 🙂
Flowers! They are more special since they are (practically) always a gift. Chocolate is a gift I give myself. Practically every day.
I CANNOT believe that this many people picked flowers!!!!!!!!!!! And you call yourselves foodies (I kid). Chocolate – 24/7/365. I can’t eat flowers. Actually, can I change my answer to “other” and say pizza and beer? 😉
confession: today MAY be the first day I have read your blog.
admission: I LOVE IT and will be committed in the reading department.
vote: i agree that I LOVE to receive flowers – but a) THEY CAN NOT BE ROSES. i do not want roses from a boy. ever. ever. UNLESS (cause, of course, there had to be an except) he grew them in his own garden and cut them down himself.
roses can come from family and friends, especially a multicolored variety, or in a punny gift, such as a bouquet of yellow roses (the rose of friendship!) with a card that says “Your Texas Girls Miss You!” a la the yellow rose of Texas.
i do however, love carnations. nothing would make me happier than a nice fluffy bouquet of white carnations.
or simply baby’s breath. a HUGE bouquet of babys breath can be so understatedly beautiful.
ive also received several handmade flower bouquets from friends, one of construction paper flowers and straw stems in an empty jar of simplicity, that have completely stollen my heart.
furthermore, i would much rather receive a bouquet of balloons than flowers. Twice during my freshmen year of college, i entered my dorm room to find that my floormates had taken the helium balloons after a student organizations event and filled my tiny single dorm room with them, covering my ceiling completely. It was GORGEOUS and bright and fun and made my entire week. I spent at least an hour laying on my bed, flat on my back, looking up at the colorful clouds and allowing myself to simply BE the happiness that balloons allow.
and how about that scene in Patch Adams where the ENTIRE ROOM is filled with balloons from top to bottom and you would have to swim through the balloons to find people.
yes. balloons.
and on that note, welcome to the “heather commented on my post and it was so long that it turned into a bit of a post on it’s own” club.
ahem. i am rambly. ahem.
Ohhh.. I love your vest! Adorable, even from the small glance. I am all about the EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS.. I told Marshall to stop with the flowers and just gimme pretty fruit 🙂
I completely agree! I know some women prefer plants over flowers because plants last longer, but that’s just another thing for me to take care of.
Flowers are certainly the way to go.
Flowers!!
I would totally want flowers all the way as well! You look really cute today!!
Flowers are much more meaningful because they require nurturance and care in order for them to thrive. Chocolate is sweet, but can be eaten in 2 seconds!
You are too cute!
Question for ya!
I don’t like bananas, but would love to start making the Green Monster! Any ideas on how to make it worth it, w/o a stinky nana!?!?! 😉
I would take the flowers over chocolate–unless it’s really good quality chocolate! 🙂
hmmm maybe try adding a cup of frozen greek yogurt? that might help replace the creaminess from the banana?
Makes me think of a “Hills” episode where Lauren says, “Flowers say: ‘I’m sorry’, chocolate says: ‘I love you'”
But I would prefer the flowers. Especially peonies. My BF gets them for me when I get really sick to make me feel better.
I love both! I like eating chocolate while staring at flower!!!
I agree on the flowers!
Also, I had almost the same smoothie today for breakfast (great minds think alike?) except instead of peanut butter I used Trader Joe’s peanut flour (like PB2), it was pretty delicious!!
i need to get my hands on that stuff!
I’ve always said Florida needs a Trader Joe’s (I live in LA now but I grew up in Miami and went to school in Gainesville). I can send you some if you want!
Flowers, for sure!
Definitely flowers!
And I love your blog. Now, all my friends (and some family) love it, too. You’re such an inspiration!
🙂 thanks, allison!
Flowers please! I LOVE your little vest!
flowers!!! it’s something you wouldn’t buy for yourself, and everytime you look at them, they make you smile, and they brighten up even the gloomiest of rooms/desks.
my bf sent me an edible arrangement of chocolate covered fruit made to look like a bouquet of flowers. that was great too!
I’d definitely have to go with chocolate, but flowers are always nice too 🙂
I don’t know how many times I’ve told my boyfriend I’d rather have flowers than chocolate but he constantly buys chocolate! For V-day this past year he bought me a box that I swear had 100 chocolates in it. Luckily for our anniversary he remembered flowers haha
