Freezer Food to the Rescue

January 4, 2011 by Julie 26 Comments

Leftovers and freezer food to the rescue!

I took Sadie on a long walk after work and returned really hungry and not in the mood to put a lot of time or effort into dinner. I opened the freezer and this box jumped out at me!salmon 031I saw this box of Morey’s Fish Creations teriyaki salmon at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago and stashed it in the freezer for easy access.

Tonight I baked two of the frozen fish filets in the oven and reheated a combination of leftover rutabaga and parsnip fries to enjoy on the side. salmon 039 salmon 036Ryan arrived home from work just as I was pulling the fish out of the oven. He loved the salmon because he said it didn’t really taste like salmon. Ryan likes salmon, but, unlike me, it’s not his favorite fish, so he liked that the teriyaki flavor dominated the fishy flavor. I liked these salmon filets as well, but definitely prefer the fresh salmon that I prepare.

Now I’m off to pack my lunch for tomorrow and hop into bed with Ryan to read The Hunger Games. This book is getting GOOD.

Oooh salmon’s my favourite fish too!I would eat it everyday if I could 😛
When you say that both you and Ryan read the book, do you have a copy each? Or read it aloud to each other? Just curious! 🙂

Yum!! Ryan must be crazy–salmon is the best fish ever! I’m kinda jealous of you guys. 😉

And I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about The Hunger Games. Keep us up to speed on it; I think I’m about to buy it for my e-reader, and your endorsement won’t hurt, Julie!

I know salmon is good for me, but can’t really seem to acquire a taste for it. It looks good tho!

Do rutabag and parsnip fries taste like potato fries?
Just curious as I’ve never had them. 🙂

I am not a salmon lover unless it is masked by a yummy marinade so I would probably love this!!!

I love that you and your Ryan read together. One of our favorite things to do is read a book at the same time alternating readers. That way you don’t have to be the person forever talking up a book and anxiously waiting for the other to hurry up and read it.

I’m not a huge salmon fan myself! The bones in it make me want to gag when I’m picking them out! Bad experience I had with them. LOL
But that does look good! and I totally bought a rutabaga yesterday and planning on using it this week to make fries! Just FYI 😉

I’m not a big fan of salmon either. I tried- I thought it was just the smoked salmon, but then I had some (unsmoked) and i enjoyed it. When I reheated one the next day to eat that salmon taste was back. No thanks!

Enjoy your book! I have some novels here but I can’t be bothered to start them haha

I just started The Hunger Games too! Unfortunately school started back up two days ago, so I don’t have much free time to read it, but I’ve been carrying it with me in my bag to read between classes. I love it so far.

I am not a big salmon fan myself however that salmon looks good. I like teriyaki sauce so I feel like that would cover up the fishy taste.
