Graduation Dress

April 19, 2011 by Julie 34 Comments

Calvin Klein Dress

  • Beige dress: Calvin Klein (via Ross)
  • Gold bangle: Banana Republic
  • Cognac bangle: Boutique in St. Pete
  • Cognac pumps: Jessica Simpson

Random tid bit: I bought this dress to wear to Ryan’s MBA graduation a couple of years ago!

Question of the Afternoon

  • Do you buy new clothes for special events or occasions?

I like to use any special event as an excuse to buy a new lil’ number. 🙂

    Cute!

Definitely…and when the seasons change…all the more reason to go out and buy a few new things! I love getting new clothes to wear to work.

As i’ve become a ‘grown up’ i’ve realized I have a bunch of ‘special event’ things that i’ve only worn once and can totally wear again! (I swear taking pictures in outfits that you see over and over again make them feel like you’ve worn them more than once!) If its a super special occassion i’ll go shopping, otherwise I would rather buy ‘everyday’ clothes that i’ll get more use out of! Super cute dress, btw… LOVE it!

I absolutely love that dress!!! I actually don’t usually buy new outfits for events, unless it is for myself (like my graduation or something). Gosh, I just realized how self-centered that sounds. lol The thing is that I have so many dresses, it’s really not necessary to buy more for special occasions.

    SUPER CUTE!

I use weddings/graduations/holidays as an excuse to do a little Rue La La/Gilt shopping…or pay a visit to Lilly Pulitzer if I want to splurge. 🙂 I got a new dress for Easter about a month ago and I’m so excited to wear it this weekend!

I love a good excuse to buy a new outfit for a special event. Lately I’ve been trying to wear things I already have though because funds have been a bit tighter.

    Cute dress!
I’m not one to buy new outfits every time I have an event because I really hate shopping.

Of course I buy new clothing for special occassions. This gives us girls a reason to go shopping almost all the time 🙂
I also agree with some of you other girls who buy clothes with the change of seasons! It makes me feel good to buy new items that come out each new year!

I love buying clothes than can we be dressed up for a night out or dressed down for work or worn during the day — These multi purpose dresses help me make decision on “higher price” price tags! hahaha

I buy clothes.. and then have to come up for a reason why I bought them.. I guess to make myself feel better about spending? Example: three weeks ago I bought this cute white dress with pretty flowers.. clearly something I cannot wear right now in the northeast. So, I told myself it was for a wedding.. in August.

Super cute dress! Did you ever have any luck with the new nude shoes?

I always like to buy something new – moderately nice and rewareable – for birthdays and New Years! It makes the whole day more special!

I bought three dresses last weekend for special occasions I have coming up this spring/summer! I like to feel like I have a purpose when I’m going shopping, and those future special occasions were it :)!

very pretty Julie! Only sometimes, I don’t always buy for special occasions. If I have something decent, I’ll wear it again and again 😀

Oh I definitely buy new things for “special occassions.” I also convince myself that I need new clothing for work all of the time!

Another thing I do is rationalize buying something or multiple somethings if the item is on sale or clearance. I say to myself: “These shirts are on clearance and so cute…I better buy 2 in different colors!” 🙂

Cute dress! It looks great on you, very flattering!

I always buy Calvin Klein dresses at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross…I don’t think I could ever spend the ‘retail’ amount. Gotta love discount stores that sell cute clothes 🙂

And I love buying a new outfit for a special event…it’s fun!

Special events is usually when I buy my clothes… Given my budget I am usually pretty stingy and tight on my wallet when it comes to purchasing clothes.

I usually dont like to buy clothes, so that means when special occasions come around I dont have much to wear, so I usually buy something new for the occasion and then utilize it again and again until I have another special occasion come around and buy something else! 😀

Beautiful dress! At this point I have so much clothing that’s been relegated to my mom’s attic because I haven’t had an excuse to wear it again, that, when I hear about a special event (that’s not mine.. giggle) I’m almost excited to get more than one wearing out of something I already own….

i bought the most gorgeous bcbg gown from rue la la last year and the bride wouldn’t let me wear it to her wedding (we won’t even go into that one….). it was so gorgeous and such a good price that i couldn’t bear to part with it. so it sits wrapped in plastic waiting to get worn…..

          haha i figured… it’s actually this gown… http://www.thisnext.com/show/item-images/2D1D0762/A77584EC/

i wasn’t in the party… but she thought the ivory part on top made it look too much like i was competing with the bride. (like a blue ombre dress looks like a wedding gown?!)

I don’t buy new clothes…pretty much ever! Although Wal-Mart and Target have some deals that are cheap enough.
