Honeymoon Destination Revealed

September 2, 2010 by Julie 54 Comments

My guess is that about 99 percent of you are going to scroll right past this lunch post to get right to the honeymoon decision, so let’s make all the food chatter nice ‘n’ quick!

Leftovers made lunch assembly awfully easy.

I made myself a buffalo chicken sandwich using the leftover meat from Tuesday night’s dinner.

Pulled Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

On the side I enjoyed fresh strawberries and sliced radishes marinated in Italian dressing.

Berries

Italian Marinated Radishes

The Italian dressing helped take some of the spiciness away from the radishes, but they’re still a little too intense for me. I like them better in salads than on their own fo’ sho’.

Sandwiches Make Me Happy. Seriously. Any Sandwich.

The Spread

Good news: The buffalo chicken was just as tasty a couple of days later.

Thanks to the three of you who read my food mumbo-jumbo. Now onto the honeymoon fun! 😀

Honeymoon Destination Revealed

After months and months of research, planning and talking to everyone we know about travel recommendations, Ryan and I finally selected our honeymoon destination.

We considered a lot of different options ranging from the Dominican Republic to Costa Rica to Hawaii. (Well, maybe I just considered Hawaii. 😉 )

In the end, we decided to go to St. Lucia!

St. Lucia

Thank you so, so much to all of you for your comments, recommendations and emails. Both Ryan and I read every single one and, for a while there, felt like we were on a wild goose chase, visiting all the places you mentioned and weighing our options.

We selected St. Lucia because it met our requirements:

  • Caribbean location
  • Beautiful beach
  • Adventurous activities

While in St. Lucia, Ryan and I hope to relax on the gorgeous beaches, but also enjoy some fun activities. On our possible to-do list:

  • Scuba diving
  • Jungle biking
  • Zip lining
  • Rainforest hike

One thing we will not be doing? Deep sea fishing… We definitely do not want to revisit our sea sick ways on our honeymoon.

Question of the Afternoon

  • In your opinion, what is the perfect length of time for a honeymoon?

Ryan and I plan to stay in St. Lucia for a week (six nights).

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

It depends where you are going and how long it takes to get there. My friend is going to Hawaii for two weeks, which is good I think because you’re really there for only 12 days if you account for travel. A close place like St. Lucia I think a week is good.

Our honeymoon is for 7 nights (but we get there super late on Sunday night). I really wish we had booked it longer though, but it’ll be fun going away for a week, then spending another week in Rio, and though it won’t be the honeymoon anymore, we at least won’t be back yet in boring cold DC!

Wow – looks beautiful! I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time! I took two weeks in all for my wedding and honeymoon and I felt like it wasn’t enough time – I was NOT ready to go back to work at all.

Six days is probably good, but if I could do it again (especially in a place as fun as St. Lucia) I’d go for at least 10 days with a few days after to re-cooperate at home (so two weeks total). With so many activities to do I’d want to do it all plus have a few days of nothing but book reading, plenty of *kanookie*, and beach laying. Sometimes when I go on vacation I have so much planned that I need another vacation to recover…

Congrats on your selection – looks fabulous!!!

St. Lucia sounds lovely! We’re doing 6 days too on a tiny island off of the coast of Tonga 🙂 Honeymoons are the best part of the wedding stuff, aside from marrying the love, of course 😉

You should roast the radishes! They carmelize and are really mild, the consistency of a beet with the flavor of a sweet potatoe, almost. I bet you’d love them prepared that way.

St. Lucia looks amazing! It’s next on our list of Caribbean islands we want to visit 🙂

We did three weeks. We had a DW in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, so we were there for a week, then we split two weeks between Anguilla, St. Martin, and St. Kitt’s. It was perfect, but, of course, any honeymoon is! And I think if we’d stayed in one place, a week would have been plenty of time! I would get antsy even in paradise 🙂

Looks like it will be tons of fun! I am getting super jealous sitting here looking at it all!!! 6 days seems like it will be good, though you will want to stay forever!.. There is something about being in a beautiful place and not having to worry about work or anything else. =)

Two weeks is the best amount of time in my option–one week just isn’t long enough! Aaaand, this is going to be the only time in your life where you’ll get to do this. Go all out! Also, how can your office say no when you ask to take off for your wedding/honeymoon?? 🙂

Our honeymoon was supposed to be three days/two nights, but I got sick on the first day and we ended up only staying for two days/one night. When we go for our five year anniversary next year I’d love to go for about four days/three nights. Then have a couple of days at home to recoup before going back to work.

I’ve heard only great things about St. Lucia. It’s supposed to be gorgeous. Oh, I’m jealous. My honeymoon was 7 days and it was just perfect. I think longer would be nice, too, but we cut it off because of lack of funds and lack of vacation days.

Good choice!! We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon for a week, and it was wonderful, and I feel like the perfect length of time. We also went horseback riding out to the volcano, which was cool (but stinky!) 🙂 The resort you’re staying at looks beautiful, and I think you’ll like St. Lucia better than you would have liked the Dominican!

I’ve never been on a honeymoon, but went on vacation to the Dominican twice. Both times I went for a week and for me that wasn’t long enough. I’d say at LEAST 10 days if not 2 weeks. Sometimes what we “want” isn’t really an option for us due to work and such.

Looks lovely and I’m sure you both will have a terrific time!
