I Got My Braces Off!

July 9, 2010 by Julie 50 Comments

Today I feel like an eighth grader.

I got my braces off!!! 😀

No More Brace Face

(The cup I’m holding is the awesome eco-friendly reusable coffee cup from my orthodontist that I got back in December. LOVE it. Best promotional item everrr.)

Bright and early this morning I headed over to my orthodontist’s office to get my braces off!

For those of you who are new to the zee blog, I’ve been going through Invisalign (clear braces) treatment since April 2009 and now, 15 months later, I’m D-O-N-E!

I can’t help but  remember the days when one of my friends from junior high or high school got their braces off.

“My teeth feel so slick and slippery!”

They always seemed so happy and relieved to no longer be a metal mouth.

Though I never had a “metal mouth,” I am happy that I will no longer have “attachments” on my teeth that stick out awkwardly. I’m happy that I will no longer have to brush two sets of teeth (my real ones and my aligners) every day.

Just in case any of you out there are considering Invisalign, I do want to add that overall my experience was very positive. It probably helps that my orthodontist was basically the jam and promised me she would work with me until I was 100 percent satisfied.

As far as pain and discomfort are concerned, I honestly experienced very little. Overall, I’d highly recommend Invisalign to anyone who is a candidate (unfortunately Invisalign is not right for everyone, such as those patients with serious crowding, etc.).

Workout + Breakfast

Before high-tailing it to my orthodontist’s office, I hit the gym to take my usual 5:45 a.m. BodyPump class.

It was a doozy! I’m not sure why, but I’m really feelin’ the song played during the squat track. It’s so flippin’ catchy!

After pumpin’ it up, I headed home to shower and make myself a super-speedy breakfast.

Friday Breakfast

On the menu today was a banana and a veggie bacon and cheese English muffin sandwich made with MorningStar Farms veggie bacon strips and a wedge of Laughing Cow light original Swiss cheese.

Simple 'n' Speedy

“Git in mah belly!!!”

Question of the Day

If you had braces, do you remember the day you got your braces off? How did it feel?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Ohh, Invisalign! I was going to say, I don’t remember seeing braces on you?!

I’ve never had braces. I did/do have a retainer because my teeth needed a few adjustments but weren’t bad enough to spend a ton of money on braces. It’s actually kind of embarrassing that I still wear a retainer to bed, hahaha (although, the one for my top teeth is clear like invisalign!)

That time flew by! Your teeth totally feel slimy, I don’t know how you managed that banana, lol. Best have plans to show off those gems this weekend!

The day I got my braces off was in like middle school, I probably wanted to find some poor 15 year-old to make out with. A true celebration.

Oh my gosh yes – I got them in 8th grade, had them taken off freshman year of H.S. It felt so strange – definitely had the smooth, slimy feeling that you were talking about!

Oh yes, I remember it all! I got braces in 6th grade and then was so relieved to get them off in 8th grade!! It felt so weird and I felt my teeth with my tongue for probably the entire next week. But then I had to wear a retainer at night… ugh.

Honestly, I couldn’t even tell you had braces. Man, I wish there was such a thing as Invisalign when I was in high school. Class pictures would have been so much better.

I remember when i got mine off that my teeth felt slippery, but also that my lips felt weird. They didn’t stick out as much and my whole mouth felt strangely not like my own.

I got my braces off during my sophomore year of high school and surprisingly it was the most painful experience of my entire two-year brace-face career! I don’t know why, but my teeth hurt SO much after the dentist plucked those metal suckers off – way more than any time that I had gotten them tightened or changed or anything. Weird.

Congrats on getting yours off! I’m glad you had a good experience with Invisalign, and your smile looks wonderful!

yah congratulations! I have clear ceramic braces right now. I’ve had them since April, and hope to get them off in 12-14 months. I had the option of getting invisalign, but our insurance covered ceramic and so I figured I could handle wearing them for a year. I can’t wait to get them off though.

I actually had braces in high school! It sucked, but I only had them for about a year. I was SO bad when I had them to…gum, popcorn, ALL that stuff still went into my jaws 😉 and I guess I got lucky cause I didn’t cause any damage.

Super speedy breakfast looks tasty nonetheless – you really love those veg bacon strips!! 🙂

Enjoy your day and congrats! So happy for you 😀

bodypump is actually a strength-training class – not a cardio one. it’s awesome! definitely challenging, but you can control the level of weights, so you can make it work for your desired level.

I was an older candidate too, with braces. I was a metal mouth in 2006-2008, and I remember very specifically what I felt like getting them off. My teeth looked HUGE, they were almost too big for my mouth, and for a few months afterwards I wasn’t comfortable with my own smile. I almost regretted braces, because everyone before told me I had the best smile, and then nobody was telling me this after the fact. I was so sad lol.

I also was very excited to bite into an apple. My teeth felt as if they were going to break off, mainly because I guess they were shifting a bit after and were a bit loose.

Oh, and of course I blogged about it lol….. http://www.spiffykerms.com/2008/09/sept-18-its-been-six-months/

I had braces for about 18 months, they were the regular kind with the rubber bands. I got them off when I was fifteen and my teeth felt way too big and weird. I’m pretty sure I drank my weight in water while I was getting used to NOT having them!

The first thing I ate after having them off was a BIG apple and caramel! YUM!

Braces were terrible. I’ve had a lot of dental work done, I had a frickin’ implant drilled into my jaw and let me tell ya, braces were much more painful. And ugly!

I have two dentists tell me I need braces again. I finally went to an orthodontist to shut the second guy up. He told me I would have to be crazy to get braces again because my teeth aren’t that bad and it would cost a fortune to get my implant removed and put in again. Ha! Take that stupid evil dentist!

Sorry, I really hated my braces. And my retainer. I spent ten years with a palet expander, braces or a retainer in my mouth. I had to stop wearing it because I was in too much pain when I woke up in the morning. I guess I outgrew it.

Congrats on getting your braces off! I wore an appliance/retainer for 3 years when I was much younger, but never braces… now (13 years later), my dentist thinks I need braces. I’m really hoping I can do invisalign if it’s necessary – was it really not painful?

it honestly wasn’t bad for me at all. my teeth were usually a little sensitive for a day or two after i switched out the aligners (which i changed every 2 wks), but i definitely didn’t have any serious discomfort. i think it varies from patient to patient, but my experience was really positive!
