Leah’s Rehearsal Dinner

October 20, 2012 by Julie 55 Comments

Last night made me long for a week back in college! It felt so incredibly good to be reunited with my best girlfriends from college at the rehearsal dinner of our beautiful friend Leah!

college friends

Leah’s fiancé Ricky’s family hosted an evening of drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres and cake for close friends and family at 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House.

Around this same time two years ago Ryan’s mom hosted our rehearsal dinner in the exact same place in downtown St. Petersburg, so we felt a little nostalgic as we walked into the restaurant ready to  celebrate the marriage of our friends. I’m so excited for the wedding today!

Oh! And guess who decided to take the plunge and try out bright red lipstick!?

Since my outfit was rather neutral, I figured last night was a good night to debut the red lips. Thanks to your advice, I stopped by CVS on our way to St. Pete and picked up red lip liner to use before applying the lipstick so it wouldn’t bleed. (Thank you!) I initially felt like the lipstick looked really intense, but Ryan assured me it wasn’t too out there, so out the door I went!

My friend Merri lives in New York and is a red lipstick pro and she gave me her seal of approval.

I told her I feel like red lipstick is high maintenance because you have to touch it up every now and then (which I really didn’t do, so mine was completely worn off by the end of the night, as you can see in the above picture). Plus, I kept worrying that it was on my teeth or smeared across my face. Can you tell I’m a red lipstick rookie!? Ha!

Our group ended up being the last ones out last night as we sat at a table drinking and eating red velvet cake and having the best time. I miss my friends so much!!! I just love how we never seem to miss a beat and pick up right where we left off whenever we see each other even though we all live in different places now. They’re the best!

Breakfast

When I awoke this morning, I made myself a breakfast sandwich with two fried eggs, melted cheese and jelly.

Sweet and salty!

Plus some cinnamon roasted almonds on the side.

I’m off to the hotel to spend the day with my girlfriends. See you crazy kids later!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

ahhhh how fun and how exciting!! I too would be soooooooo nostalgic if a friend hosted a dinner at our rehearsal place. 😀 And you look gorgeous with the red lips! Doesn’t look funky or overdone, so great job. 🙂 ps: I always see the OLDER women (50’s, 60’s) who wear red lipstick with red smeared in their teeth lol.

The red lipstick looks great on you! You can definitely pull it off! I agree that using lip liner is key, but I’m with you and think it is kind of high maintenance. I also worry about it smearing or being on my teeth. I like to use lip stain sometimes because I think it’s a little less maintenance/ worrisome. I really like Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in “Always Red.” And it only takes a tiny bit to get really bold color. Enjoy the wedding today!

The red looks great on you! It brings out your eyes and hair color even more. You should look into a lip color sealer for the next time you wear it. I think they still have those at Sephora.

The trick to making it last is this:
Fill lips with liner (I actually use on that matches my lips not the lipstick)
    Apply lipstick
Blot with a tissue – hard as if you are pressing the lipstick into your lips
    Reapply the lipstick

I have literally fallen asleep with bright lipstick on and it was still there the next morning using this method. And if you are worried it’s too intense apply it with a lip brush instead of straight from the tube.
