Little Teddies for Little Tummies

April 13, 2010 by Julie 25 Comments

I know I’ve said it before, but I have a small obsession with the gourmet food aisle at T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s. I always find the coolest foodie fare (for cheap!) that I cannot buy at other places.

Yesterday I picked up a box of organic apple cinnamon Healthy Times Teddy Puffs cereal.

Teddy Puffs Cereal

I was snacking on it while Ryan and I made dinner last night. When he asked me what I was eating, I told him apple cinnamon cereal. He picked up the box and then asked me whether or not it was cereal for babies.

“No,” I said before examining the box a little closer.

The slogan on the box made me rethink my answer: “Little Teddies for Little Tummies” … I definitely do not have a little tummy (I really think I could eat an entire half-gallon of ice cream without a problem), but these little teddies sure do taste good! Turns out cereal for little tykes is pretty darn delicious!

What was your favorite cereal as a kid?

I loved Corn Pops. Other favorites were Honey Comb, Froot Loops and Lucky Charms.

(If you’re interested, back in September I posted about the best and worst childhood cereals. Click here to have a look to see how your favorite ranked.)

Breakfast

Today I included my kid-friendly cereal in a yogurt bowl with fresh strawberries.

I also picked up the place mat in the above picture at Marshall’s yesterday. That store has everything.

Workout

My workout today was quite random since I was feeling very antsy and didn’t want to stick to one machine to crank out some cardio.

My cardio hodgepodge looked like this:

  • 15 min. stair master
  • 10 min. run (1.0 incline, 6.5 pace)
  • 5 min. incline walking (7.5 incline, 4.2 pace)
  • 20 min. elliptical

I read Clean Eating magazine while ellipticizing (Is that a word?) and left the gym craving roasted chicken with potatoes and green beans… at 7:30 a.m. 🙂

We weren’t allowed to have sugar cereals in the house, but somehow my sister and I got my mom thinking that Cracklin’ Oat Bran was healthy, so that was always my fave 🙂

I love the food aisles at those stores too, though a lot of times I’m afraid to buy cause I worry the stuff will be stale.

I really liked cinnamon toast crunch and rice krispies treats cereal as a kid, but I mostly ate cheerios.

Love your blog by the way!! 🙂

My sister and I use to eat Pops all the time! Sooo delish!

I had a protein smoothie this morning. I was going to make a “green monster” but my fiance ate the rest of our spinach last night for dinner! LOL

next time….Oh and thanks so much for the tip about freezing bananas. My smoothie was EXTRA thick!

    Happy Tuesday!

ellipticizing <– LOVE that word 🙂 I think it's a word, if not, it should be a word! 🙂
Oh, and as for cereal- I loved Fruit Loops (did you know they have a reduced sugar one, although I'm still it's not all that healthy, but SO good!), Apple Jacks, &Hunny B's! Have you ever heard of those? they were out for like 3 years while I was in high school & that's practically all I ate after cross country & track meets.

I have never found cereal at TJ Maxx or Marshalls…I will be on the lookout! 🙂

I just posted in my blog about finding cool coffees there, they really do have the neatest food items!

I LOVE cereal! my favourites as a kid were Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Corn Pops, and Lucky Charms (I remember my sister and I used to pick out the marshmallows, eat the cereal, then throw the handful of marshmallows into our mouths all at once… and back then I thought it tasted AMAZING!) But it’s funny.. now I can’t stand the thought of eating any of those! My current faves are Nature’s Path Heritage O’s and Kashi. When I was a kid I’m sure I would have hated both haha!
PS I absolutely LOVE your blog! You and Gina have inspired me to start one of my own and I’ve just added you to my blogroll. Have a great day! 🙂

The Gerber Graduate mini fruits strawberry banana are really good as yogurt or oatmeal topping. I find no shame in eating kiddie food 🙂

My favorite cereal as a kid was Lucky Charms if we got to have something with sugar (which was rare) or grapenuts. Still love those, though it makes much more sense as an adult!

I’m glad to see that Lucky Charms are a “middle of the road” cereal! They were always my favorite, and I’ve been craving them recently, but I only want a bowl or two, not the whole box!!

Those teddy puffs are adorable! Way to incorporate them into your morning meal!

As a kid, I loved Fruity Pebbles and Fruit Loops (I love rainbow colors, what can I say?!) 🙂 I also was a fan of Cheerios, Alphabets, and Life Cereal. Brings back childhood memories!

I’ve never been a cereal fan. My mom didn’t let us have any of the sugary cereals so I think because I never had it, I just don’t want it?

Reading cooking magazines at the gym is a bad idea isn’t it? hahaha!
