Love or Loathe

October 11, 2011 by Julie 157 Comments

My plans to make some kind of an innovative dinner with pork chops and beer fell to the wayside when life got in the way.

Okay, I’m totally lying.

I was simply feeling entirely too lazy to do some real cooking, so reheating some homemade BBQ pulled pork that I stashed away in our freezer sounded much more appealing!

bbq pulled pork

It was just as good the second time around.

Roasted cauliflower tossed in Garlic Gold classic balsamic vinaigrette served as our side.

Dessert was awfully good tonight as well.

pumpkin spice granola 033

Festive, huh? The kind people at Tastykake apparently caught wind of my sweet tooth and sent me a whole box of goodies to try.

Being the coconut lover I am, the Ghostly Goodies dark chocolate covered coconut cakes were my first victim.

pumpkin spice granola 034

They reminded me of an Almond Joy, but with richer chocolate (a very good thing!).

I always feel like coconut is one of those polarizing foods. People seem to love it or hate it which inspired a fun little “love it or loathe it” game.

Let’s play!

Question of the Evening

  • Do you love or loathe the following foods:
  1. Coconut
  2. Mushrooms
  3. Cilantro <—This one is historically polarizing!
  4. Mayonnaise
  5. Black Licorice

My answers:

  1. Love
  2. Love (Unless they’re canned and then they taste like armpit.)
  3. Love
  4. Neutral (I prefer Miracle Whip.)
  5. Newly neutral (I used to hate black licorice and recently started to like the taste. Weird.)

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Coconut: Like, just don’t have it that often
Mushrooms: Love, except if they are canned that’s just gross
    Cilantro: Love
Mayo: Used to hate, now can tolerate if it’s not a lot
Black licorice: I don’t like, but I always try it if it’s around and see if my tastes have changed and well they haven’t yet

    1. Love-hate for this. Love with chocolate, but coconut water and pina coladas are not my cup of tea.
    2. Love all kinds (buttons, cremini, enoki, shitake, portabello,…)!! With an exception to those canned grey ones that are rubbery and taste like feet!
    3. Love love love! If I’m not asking for extra mushrooms, I’m asking for extra cilantro!
    4. Love. I used to slater my sandwiches with mayo..it gushed like burger commercials! I have since learned to tame myself.
    5. I’ve given it chances..y’can’t win ’em all! But if we’re talkin red vines? I’m in! 🙂

Coconut – used to loathe it, but over the past year I started to love it. Except when it’s dried and shredded into gross little papery things….then it’s still loathe. But coconut oil and coconut milk have become favorites of mine.

Mushrooms – Eh. I don’t like them enough to seek them out, but if they are on or in a dish, I don’t mind.

Cilantro – LOVE LOVE LOVE. It’s one of my favorite herbs.

Mayonnaise – the nectar of the gods. I could not live without this glorious condiment.

    Black Licorice – Love!

Is it true that Tastykakes are not in stores everywhere? I found out that they are just a PA thing. Haha, we have them EVERYWHERE around here. I never really got into them but I can see why people who have never had them are intrigued.

    Mushrooms — LOATHE

Cilantro — I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had it.

Mayonnaise — I grew up eating mayo but my DH grew up eating Miracle Whip so I eat either.

Black Licorice — LOVE. My sister used to get me the bags of black jelly beans at Easter and I’d make myself almost sick eating them. I need to go get some Good ‘N Plenties now. Yum, Yum.

AH!!! Tastykake! Such a Philly thang…when I lived out west my parents would always send me packages of things I couldn’t get out there, like regional Tastykakes. The coconut ones are awesome (we have those in the house currently), but the Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes are TO. DIE. FOR.

    1. Coconut ~ loooove

    2. Mushrooms ~ STARTING to love. Never ate them when I was younger, but I like them in many dishes now. Have yet to cook with them myself, though

    3. Cilantro ~ LOOOOVE, use it in everything

Coconut – neutral, I like coconut-flavored things like vanilla coconut milk and flavored coconut water, and I like coconut yogurt and coconut ice cream, but I do NOT like actual pieces of coconut flakes.

    Mushrooms – Hate! Blech

Cilantro – Love! And I’m so glad I don’t taste soap like some people do because cilantro rocks!

Mayonnaise – Don’t really care if something has mayo or miracle whip, I’m not a fan of either. I’d much rather use Greek yogurt. Much creamier and tastier.

Black Licorice – Haven’t had it since I hated it as a kid and since it’s not gluten-free I couldn’t eat it now even if I wanted to!
