Master Bedroom Mission

September 14, 2011 by Julie 154 Comments

This morning was quite snacky. After my delicious breakfast of pumpkin protein pancakes, I was full, but a couple of hours later, I just wanted to snack.

Enter a chocolate chip brownie Larabar…

larabar 001

And endless handfuls of cheesy Chex mix.

larabar 002

Seriously endless.

When I start eating cheesy and salty snack foods, there’s no stopping until I’ve plowed through what seems like half the bag.

As for the Larabar, I’ve hated on these bars in the past and I think it’s because I only tried the fruity ones. Turns out the Larabars with chocolate in them are really good! Okay, so the two I’ve tried with chocolate in them have been delicious (chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate chip brownie).

Lunch

By the time my normal lunchtime rolled around, I just wasn’t hungry from all the snacking, so I pushed back lunch another hour or so until I figured I should eat something.

It was smoothie time!

I made myself a peanut butter cup smoothie which totally hit the spot. I added an extra banana (totaling two frozen bananas) and another medium-sized scoop of peanut butter which made the smoothie extra thick and creamy and a little more substantial.

It tasted like dessert! Sadie was frothing at the mouth.

Master Bedroom Mission

Ryan and I are on a mission to find a new master bedroom furniture, including a new bed. (We’re using our old set in the guest room and our old guest room set is going to my sister for her new apartment.)

I am having a really hard time coming up with a vision for our bedroom. I know I want a bed that looks fluffy and super comfortable (lots of white!), but as far as the bedframe and the surrounding furniture is concerned, I’m at a loss.

I like the look of wrought iron bed frames like these two…

bedroom2

(Pottery Barn, you kill me.)

bedroom

But then I also like the look of this bed frame that’s currently on sale through RueLaLa today and it’s completely different than the other beds I’ve been eyeing.

And then there’s this one… the clear front-runner.

hanging bed

Just kidding. Smile

Decisions, decisions. At least our new couch and loveseat and dining room table and chairs should be delivered to our house within the next couple days!

If you savvy decorators out there have any bedroom inspiration photos you love, please feel free to link to them in the comments section of this post. I need ideas and Pinterest is failing me. The horror!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What does your dream bedroom look like? Colors, style, type of bed, overall feel?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m so addicted to Chex Mix. I mean seriously, it’s the one thing I can no longer keep in the house because I’ll go through the whole bag in one sitting!
My dream bedroom would have dark wood furniture. I’m excited because I think my parents are getting the set for us for our wedding!
Good luck with your shopping 🙂

Pier One always has wrought iron headboards for a great price. I’ve had two bed frames from there, and I loved them both

I like the bed frame from RueLaLa. I don’t like foot boards, so those options would be off my radar.

You need to try the peanut butter cookie Larabar. Tastes like peanut butter cookie dough! I could eat those everyday. The fruit ones taste like B.O. to me.

I love wrought irons beds! I actually bought one at IKEA (yes, IKEA) and I love it! It’s the Noresund bed. I’m not sure if they sell it anymore (can’t find it on their website), but definitely keep an eye out for it, look for it online, or just check IKEA in general for wrought iron frames. They are very reasonable and hold up well if you get a good one!

Here’s a suggestion – Make your own fabric headboard, we used simple plywood from Hd, covered it with cotton batting and then fabric that was neutral enough to switch from fall to spring to summer to winter bedding. We used the hotel hanger method a home depot guy suggested which requires just one piece of wood attached to the wall. It is also called a cleat method.. It works so great. When we get tired of the fabric, we can just cover it up with a new fabric.

    Julie,
Have you checked out these diy websites for knockoff decor? They’re awesome!

Also, I was wondering… When you use the xanthan gum, how long does the smoothie stay thick? Have you ever tried to make one, put it in the fridge, then come back to it later?

    Thanks!

I love the look of that straw bed!

I usually gravitate to really modern things, and then wish I had gotten something more traditional later. So, (not that my opinion matters) would suggest going with something you will like for a while, not just 1 year.

Larabars are the best! Soo good, and I love that they are REAL food, which so many people seem to be afraid of.

I don’t have any particular desires for my bed as long as it is actually comfortable it doesn’t necessarily have to look that way. And I know I don’t want white, it gets dirty so easily.

So, I would not get the wire headboard if you move around a lot when you sleep. Mine drives me insane. I lose my pillow or it gets caught in the wire. It’s terrible. I do think if you’re a fairly calm sleeper you’d be alright with it.

As for the wrought iron if you like to read in bed, which I do wrought iron is NOT the way to go. Your head will be very uncomfortable. I like the second look or may be a really rich wood. Good luck!! Cannot wait to see everything all set up. 🙂

I used to love the look of wrought iron, but now I think I want a fabric headboard. And a bed that’s big and comfortable. And then the accent pieces to have simple designs. I don’t like clunky furniture. 🙂

My Fiance and I actually just moved into a new townhouse and we’re in the process of figuring out how to decorate the place.

Here’s what we have so far:

Master Bedroom: Mint green, grey, and a couple subtle pops of pink-we’re going for a vintagey feel.

Family Room: Grey with lots of sunshiney pops of yellow.

    Kitchen: Yellow and white.

    Downstairs guest bathroom: Tree themed-white&brown.

    Master Bathroom: Undecided-but possibly grey&white.

    Office: Undecided.

Office Bathroom: Urban city themed black, white & green (masculine since it’s Ryan’s office)
