Master Bedroom Mission

September 14, 2011 by Julie 154 Comments

This morning was quite snacky. After my delicious breakfast of pumpkin protein pancakes, I was full, but a couple of hours later, I just wanted to snack.

Enter a chocolate chip brownie Larabar…

larabar 001

And endless handfuls of cheesy Chex mix.

larabar 002

Seriously endless.

When I start eating cheesy and salty snack foods, there’s no stopping until I’ve plowed through what seems like half the bag.

As for the Larabar, I’ve hated on these bars in the past and I think it’s because I only tried the fruity ones. Turns out the Larabars with chocolate in them are really good! Okay, so the two I’ve tried with chocolate in them have been delicious (chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate chip brownie).

Lunch

By the time my normal lunchtime rolled around, I just wasn’t hungry from all the snacking, so I pushed back lunch another hour or so until I figured I should eat something.

It was smoothie time!

pumpkin oatmeal muffins 036

I made myself a peanut butter cup smoothie which totally hit the spot. I added an extra banana (totaling two frozen bananas) and another medium-sized scoop of peanut butter which made the smoothie extra thick and creamy and a little more substantial.

It tasted like dessert! Sadie was frothing at the mouth.

Master Bedroom Mission

Ryan and I are on a mission to find a new master bedroom furniture, including a new bed. (We’re using our old set in the guest room and our old guest room set is going to my sister for her new apartment.)

I am having a really hard time coming up with a vision for our bedroom. I know I want a bed that looks fluffy and super comfortable (lots of white!), but as far as the bedframe and the surrounding furniture is concerned, I’m at a loss.

I like the look of wrought iron bed frames like these two…

bedroom2

(Pottery Barn, you kill me.)

bedroom

But then I also like the look of this bed frame that’s currently on sale through RueLaLa today and it’s completely different than the other beds I’ve been eyeing.

ruelala bed

And then there’s this one… the clear front-runner.

hanging bed

Just kidding. Smile

Decisions, decisions. At least our new couch and loveseat and dining room table and chairs should be delivered to our house within the next couple days!

If you savvy decorators out there have any bedroom inspiration photos you love, please feel free to link to them in the comments section of this post. I need ideas and Pinterest is failing me. The horror!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What does your dream bedroom look like? Colors, style, type of bed, overall feel?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

You NEED to try the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Larabar! It’s amazing!

And I’m not exactly sure what I want my bedroom to look like…I just know that it will feel very homey and warm…

I completely agree. My husband won’t even sit in the bed because it is so uncomfortable on his back. I even have to have an additional pillow behind my regular one to make sure my pillow doesn’t slip back behind the bed. I don’t think I would ever buy another bed like this again. It’s too uncomfortable!

I love my bedroom right now, but my house came furnished and decorated (because we bought the model), so I was kind of “stuck” with the curtains and bedding. If I could choose, I’d go for a brighter room with white bedding and maybe light yellow walls.

I’m not sure what your aesthetic is but you’re welcome to look through my “spaces” pinboard (http://pinterest.com/faithem). My dream bedroom is some shade of gray (my fav color) with clean white and wood accents. It has an upholstered (probably tufted) headboard. Clean white linens, a fluffy duvet and plush pillows on the bed. A soft, luxurious textured rug. 2 cute/sophistiated doggy beds for my labs. A seating area, original artwork, and hand-scraped wood floors. I imagine a beautiful mix of old, new, contemporary and vintage.
    Good luck!!

I make my own Larabar type snack by grinding up almonds and dried cranberries in the food processor and forming them into balls. Much tastier!

I post a ton of home inspiration pictures on Pinterest if you want to look, pinterest.com/rachellitland.

I love the look of iron beds but ultimately we had to go for comfort and built ourselves an upholstered bed following plans on Ana White’s DIY site. The bed frame ended up breaking, but we have a fabulous huuuge upholstered headboard that was way, way, way cheaper than my inspirations (Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware). It was really easy to make if you want more info!

For now our boxspring and mattress sit on the floor (b/c it just broke), but we’ll be getting one of those cheap adjustable metal frames that I will cover up with a bedskirt. As far as the other stuff (nightstands and dresser) I am as stuck as you. I am looking around thrift/antique shops for a set I can refinish unless I find something from a store I love & can afford.

We have a wrought iron bed, and while I love the look of it, I’m getting really tired of:
1.) Other readers have mentioned this but it’s uncomfortable to sit up in for reading or watching TV.
2.) The pillows slide through the holes which is super annoying. We solved the problem by putting a body pillow behind all of the normal pillows but then it makes the bed that much shorter.

I want an upholstered headboard SO badly! Good luck!

So this is not the look you were going for at all, but I LOVE the look of canopy beds…they just look so grandiose! I got my bed from a woman at work who was selling it, and I couldn’t be happier. It looks like this…
    http://www.asfurniture.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10154&langId=-1&partNumber=1082205&N=0&Ntt=plantation+bed&Ntk=si_all&Ntx=mode%2bmatchall&referrer=searchResultsPage

    but also comes in white.

    http://www.asfurniture.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?partNumber=1082167&Ntt=plantation bed&Ntk=si_all&langId=-1&storeId=10101&Ntx=mode matchall&N=0 4294967157&catalogId=10154&relatedRef=1138154

Unfortunately, our bedroom ceiling in my new place isn’t high enough to put up the canopy, but in the below link you can see it “in real life” with a white down comforter (king size). Ignore the fact that my bed isn’t made :(.
