Master Bedroom Mission

September 14, 2011 by Julie 154 Comments

This morning was quite snacky. After my delicious breakfast of pumpkin protein pancakes, I was full, but a couple of hours later, I just wanted to snack.

Enter a chocolate chip brownie Larabar…

larabar 001

And endless handfuls of cheesy Chex mix.

larabar 002

Seriously endless.

When I start eating cheesy and salty snack foods, there’s no stopping until I’ve plowed through what seems like half the bag.

As for the Larabar, I’ve hated on these bars in the past and I think it’s because I only tried the fruity ones. Turns out the Larabars with chocolate in them are really good! Okay, so the two I’ve tried with chocolate in them have been delicious (chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate chip brownie).

Lunch

By the time my normal lunchtime rolled around, I just wasn’t hungry from all the snacking, so I pushed back lunch another hour or so until I figured I should eat something.

It was smoothie time!

pumpkin oatmeal muffins 036

I made myself a peanut butter cup smoothie which totally hit the spot. I added an extra banana (totaling two frozen bananas) and another medium-sized scoop of peanut butter which made the smoothie extra thick and creamy and a little more substantial.

It tasted like dessert! Sadie was frothing at the mouth.

Master Bedroom Mission

Ryan and I are on a mission to find a new master bedroom furniture, including a new bed. (We’re using our old set in the guest room and our old guest room set is going to my sister for her new apartment.)

I am having a really hard time coming up with a vision for our bedroom. I know I want a bed that looks fluffy and super comfortable (lots of white!), but as far as the bedframe and the surrounding furniture is concerned, I’m at a loss.

I like the look of wrought iron bed frames like these two…

bedroom2

(Pottery Barn, you kill me.)

bedroom

But then I also like the look of this bed frame that’s currently on sale through RueLaLa today and it’s completely different than the other beds I’ve been eyeing.

ruelala bed

And then there’s this one… the clear front-runner.

hanging bed

Just kidding. Smile

Decisions, decisions. At least our new couch and loveseat and dining room table and chairs should be delivered to our house within the next couple days!

If you savvy decorators out there have any bedroom inspiration photos you love, please feel free to link to them in the comments section of this post. I need ideas and Pinterest is failing me. The horror!

Question of the Afternoon

I personally love the iron headboard look. We have one, and I don’t find it to be an issue since I don’t spend a lot of time sitting up in bed. Nothing a few pillows won’t fix.

However, I HATE footboards! I feel trapped and it makes the bed a pain to make. If you get a bed frame without the footboard, you will also save money!

Ahh I’m going through the same thing! We moved our bed into the guest room but haven’t found the perfect master bedroom furniture yet. We have a lot of black furniture but I think I want our bedroom to be more airy and fluffy 🙂 My friend, Ethan, is a creative furniture builder…he can really do anything so maybe you should check him out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sawyer-Vinson-Art-Build/108907109172912?sk=wall

I seriously design my ideal home and rooms on a daily basis…even though I am at least 4 years from buying. Here are 3 of my favorite bedrooms from Ethan Allen’s “Elegance” collection. I love how bright, comfy but still sophisticated they are! (Just don’t look at the price tag, eek!)

I have the black frame (king) with a white down comforter and a million pillows and am constantly getting complimented on it. Its not exactly what you were looking for, but sometimes variety helps make a decision one way or the other.

I love the idea of a big, white, fluffy bed. There’s just something totally luxurious and cozy about it to me. I am also loving just about all greys for decorating lately–especially the combo of grey and yellow. Loves it!

I have a wrought iron bed frame that has a lot of decoration within it, and I love it! I’ll take a photo of it tonight and send it to you. My mom got it for me just last fall, so hopefully it’s still available. I’ll ask her for the details and send them your way too! In the meantime, this is a link to a small photo of my bed, but you can’t see all of the details in it.

Our bedroom furniture is dark brown with silver accents, and the bed frame is silver too – I found the wood frames and headboards too big and overwhelming. Our room colours are blues and beige, I think its my favorite room in the house and find the colors relaxing. Nothing too bright but more calming for me!

PS My favorite Larabar is PB Chocolate Chip!

okay so you are going to get all kinds of comments about which larabars to try, but I was the EXACT same way as you before. I tried the fruit/nut versions of Larabar and I was like um…these are no bueno. Then, I had coconut cream pie. Dude, seriously…I’m obsessed with coconut and this does NOT disappoint! They also have a chocolate coconut flavor, but I’m partial to coconut cream pie! Also try the pecan pie! (they need a pumpkin flavor! or pumpkin chocolate chip??!!!)

I LOVE to do this – tell other people what to buy 🙂 I personally love the upholstered headboard look for master bedrooms especially in your case since it looks like you already have an iron headboard in the guest bedroom. You want the master to feel different and more like a retreat. With an upholstered headboard your options for bedside tables are endless – mirrored, wood, wrought iron or a combination. A blog I follow is http://www.homestoriesatoz.com/ and there are lots of inspiration photos/how to’s. good luck! Master bedrooms are the toughest to decorate since they are extremely personal spaces.

I love love LooooooooooVE our master bedroom.

We have dark chocolate stained wood furniture (no footboard on our bed, just headboard), a lighter brown with beige detailing duvet cover (just the right balance of femine/masculine), our room is painted a really nice green & we actually made a focal wall that has stripes on it.

Our bedroom is my favorite room in our house, I feel so comfortable in there and love the ambiance. 😀

One day we will have a large king sized bed with a big headboard. I’m not a fan of footboards — mostly because I end up hitting them with my knees/legs as I walk around the bed. I like big wooden ones in mission style. I’d love to go to one of those Amish showrooms and get a bedroom set from there: I want 100% beautiful wood. (TWSS?)

Pottery Barn gets me all the time! I requested catalogs from PB, Ballard, Restoration Hardware, etc. to get design ideas. After searching forever for a new bed frame, I purchased one from the Canopy Collection at Wal-Mart. I love it! It was a great price and is extremely well-built and solid. Just what I was looking for.

Also, I think that RueLaLa one is awesome!

I don’t know how tall Ryan is, but my partner is tall 6’3″, so all beds with foot boards that came up past the mattress were out. If either of you like to sleep with your feet sticking off the end of the bed–make sure you get a foot board to accommodate this.

Oooh… I love home design stuff!
I LOVE old wrought iron beds too but Pottery Barn is SO expensive so when we moved into our new apartment we hit up a flea market and bought this beauty for $300… Pretty good right?

I also bought a mirror and a bureau at vintage flea markets for cheap! You should check to see if there is one near you. Here’s a great DIY project I think you might be into if you want to clean up your jewelery display…

That being said, go with the upholstered one!!! It will look so nice with white and fluffy pillows and blankets!! And so grown up looking!!

Have you thought of making your own headboard? My fiance made ours with big piece of plywood that we wrapped in foam and batting and stapled. Then we found this beautiful tan suede on sale at a discount fabric store and wrapped the headboard in that. It just takes 2 hooks to hang it up.
It is amazingly easy and so cheap. And it looks great!!

I’m with you, the Larabars with chocolate are my fav. A little tip for you – stick them in the microwave (out of the wrapper) for 12 seconds. Seriously, it will change your life.
