Mattresses in the Kitchen

November 10, 2011 by Julie 34 Comments

Dinner was a fast one this evening because we had a lot of household things to do before my sister arrives this evening.

When I think fast, I think pasta.

Dinner included pasta with roasted cauliflower, shrimp, goat cheese and marinara sauce.

Stirring the warm marinara over the goat cheese melted the cheese perfectly and made the sauce so creamy. I need to remember that combination for the future!

After dinner we got to work.

Mattresses in the kitchen!

Ever since we moved into our new rental house in Ocala, we’ve had a mattress and bed stored in our garage. In the guest room we had the black iron bed that used to be the bed in our master bedroom all set up with the corresponding black furniture. (You may see a peak of this furniture in this post if you’re curious.)

Well, when we revamped our current master bedroom, we ended up using the dressers from our old set and the guest room was left looking quite bare.

Tonight we swapped out the black iron bed in the guest room and moved in the white iron bed we had in the garage that we were saving for my sister that she no longer needs.moving mattresses 009

Yes, the crazy blue walls are here to stay. Gotta love renting!

We also moved in a white desk and light wood bookshelf (the one that used to be our television stand) that were also stored in the garage into the guest room.

Once we get a chair for the desk and hang some pictures, the guest room will be done. I’m not in love with it, but it’s coming along. Slowly but surely.

Time to relax for a bit before my sister arrives!

You think blue is bad? I had to deal with purple once. No matter how hard I tried the room looked like it belonged to a 4 year old girl 🙂

I guess I should stop complaining about my rental’s white walls and wanting to add a little color. It could be so much worse! haha

The blue is a little bright, but I do think that blue-yellow-white is a lovely combination. Some accent pieces that match the bed and bedspread will help take attention away from the walls, if you’re bothered by the color. Interior design is my passion–if I lived in FL I’d decorate your house in exchange for some personal training/100 squat motivation! Ha 🙂

You could always channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw and do up the guest room in the same spirit as her redecorated apartment from the first SATC movie- the blue walls in your room aren’t that much different than hers 🙂

It is coming along! I have been in my house just shy of 5 yrs and the guest room isn’t completely done. It needs a dresser, something on the walls and curtains. So you are doing great!

A great way to cover up a wall without getting yourself into trouble is fabric! I used that trick a couple of times in university. Just buy a fabric that you would love as wallpaper in lengths slightly longer than the height of your walls. I used little pins to tack and hold the fabric on the ceiling and floor, all the way along. Depending on the weight of your fabric, you can even hang pictures using heavy duty velcro so it won’t damage the walls.

i LOVE goat cheese–have an unnatural obsession with it and put it on everything from baked potatoes to eggs. Never thought to put it on pasta with marinara though! Looks delicious–I’ll have to try it!
