Medicine Ball Toss

April 20, 2012 by Julie 37 Comments

Circuits, baby! I just love ‘em.

Today’s workout was another little gem from the boot camp program I am following. It began with 20 minutes on the elliptical followed by a circuit workout that took me through three rounds of exercises that focused on bursts of cardio and power strength movements.

I always know which exercises kick my butt the most because they quickly become the exercises that I dread when they come around in the circuit.

Today those exercises were burpees (no surprise there!) and the medicine ball toss.

medicine ball tossI didn’t think the medicine ball toss would be all that challenging, but after doing it for 60 seconds in a row, I found that it really pushed me. I also felt a little crazy doing that exercise (and the medicine ball slams) in the middle of my gym floor, but I made sure to leave my pride in the car, so it wasn’t a big deal.

Breakfast

How about a Friday egg sandwich?

I go to a PT at the gym…and when people ask me what he does with me, I always say “kick my butt by making me look as ridiculous as possible” – I have to remind myself all the time that no one is really paying attention to what I’m doing!

i buy it at publix, but they sell it at any grocery store or in the deli department! i used to eat it on sandwiches growing up and always loved it. it tastes like a milder version of cheddar cheese in my opinion.

I actually enjoy using the medicine ball while working out as long as I can find a room in my gym that’s empty because I feel silly throwing it around with a bunch of people near. I’m not the most coordinated!!

Every time I see your breakfasts I think to myself I should try the jelly and cheese combo, but then never do. Outta sight outta mind. Maybe I need to print out a pic and hang it on the fridge to remind me…. 😉

I love the look of the circuit workout, but I’m a little worried I won’t be able to do a lot of the fun stuff – my gym only has kettleballs and medicine balls in the personal trainer room and I don’t know if I’ll be able to use them…

Med ball workouts are tough! I did med ball throws with a squat jump thrown in. Pretty sure I did three of them before I got tired. Who would think those things get so heavy after a few exercises?

Medicine Ball Slams are so absurd looking, but honestly I think they are one of the most empowering things (at least for me). Such a fantastic way to get aggression and power out 🙂

Sounds like it was a great workout!!

I love medicine ball tosses!! Circuits have been killing me lately haha. I’ve needed to tone down the intensity of my workouts a bit because I think I was overdoing it and pushing my body too hard. Hope you have an awesome Friday

I admire you a lot for doing the med ball exercises in your gym, despite feeling uncomfortable. I’ve been putting off doing Phase 3 of LiveFit Trainer (or even qutting altogether) because I’m too self-conscious to do the active rest exercises in my small and crowded gym, where I’m sure everyone thinks I’m nuts anyway. I don’t really have any pride to leave, but it would be nice to leave my embarrassment and body image issues in the car.

I did two workouts that had me doing bridges in the middle of the gym yesterday and felt embarrassed for the first two sets, then finally got over it. At least I’m not the only one looking ridiculous in the gym!

I feel so stupid doing medicine ball slams because our whole gym is basically in one room so everyone can see me doing them. I usually lay on my back and do chest passes into the air instead. Less noisy.

Quaker Oats originated in my hometown of Akron, Ohio 🙂 That article about “Larry” (who knew he had a name??) was really interesting! I’m fascinated by marketing, mostly because I’m a huge sucker for pretty packages, haha. It’s amazing to me that there can be so much intention behind such little changes – I never would have noticed his shoulders were showing now, among many other things. Thanks for passing the link along!
