Mom's First Green Monster

April 19, 2010 by Julie 19 Comments

In Case You Missed It This Weekend…

  • I did a fun At Home Cardio Blast workout
  • I visited the University of Florida for a girly weekend with my mom and sister and ate copious amounts of cake at The Dessert Lady
  • I met the designer of my wedding dress

Breakfast

After my sister left last night, my mom, Ryan and I hung out for a bit before Ryan headed up to bed and my mom and I watched several episodes of wedding-related TV (Platinum Weddings and some show called Girl Chooses Gown maybe?) while munching on peanut butter filled pretzels. How good are those!?

Needless to say, after visits to The Dessert Lady, an indulgent brunch, cookies last night, apple fritters, and a huge bag of kettle corn from the Farmer’s Market this weekend, we were both ready for some nutritious fare this morning.

Why are the weekends always packed with the “good stuff?” 🙂

After raving about Green Monsters to my mom, she was excited to try one for herself.

I made both of us breakfast smoothies with lots of spinach!

Green Monster

Drink Up

Our smoothies contained:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • Several handfuls of fresh spinach
  • 1 1/2 tsp. xanthan gum
  • Cold water
  • 2 ice cubes

As always, you couldn’t even taste the spinach flavor, though the putrid green color is proof of its presence.

My mom took a sip an instantly became a fan!

Workout

Though I got to bed a little later than usual I slept like a rock and woke up ready for a good workout!

Initially I figured I’d do my own weights routine, but when I got to the gym and saw everyone filing into BodyPump, I headed in to take the class as well.

I felt like my mind was racing throughout the class this morning. I was thinking about just about everything other than BodyPump, so the class really flew by!

I finished up my workout with 25 minutes of light cardio on the elliptical with the latest issue of Brides magazine. I think I’m in full-on wedding planning mode after this weekend!

Question of the Day

Do you eat differently on the weekends than on weekdays?

We usually eat different on the weekends – we don’t eat as many meals since we aren’t up as early. We also usually go out to eat once or so and eat something different.

I normally tend to eat the same meals….but that’s because I’m a little too scared to “indulge”…..I did however grab some Red Mango this weekend! It was delicious!!

I definitely tend to indulge a little more on the weekends, I am trying to get better but it is hard.

Hope you have a great Monday!

I eat differently on the weekends–timing of my meals is different, and its a little more lax since Im at Seans house quite a bit, but its nothing crazy!

    Hey gorgeous girlie!!
awww Mom is SO brave…my Dad loves green smoothies, but my Mom is afraid! 🙂
I eat the same on the weekends because I only wake up about an hour later on sundays and on saturday mornings I have CLASS…boo! And now that I have gotten a lot better at eating when and what my body asks for: it doesnt know it’s the weekend! (so I get hungry about the same time and want the same kind of foods)…I DO make sure to get a GOOD/fancy dessert at least one night each weekend!!
I hope you are having a great start to your week!
    ~xoxo!

I eat WAY more on weekends…I’m in college though, and most of the social events I go to don’t offer much in the form of health food! I enjoy it though- life is too short not to indulge in a cupcake (or five).

Your clothes are always ADORABLE…what are your favorite stores?

The main difference is that on the weekends we tend to go out to dinner but during the day my eats are normally the same.

Hi! I don’t really eat differently on the weekends, but if I’m going to cook anything that needs a bit more time, I usually have it then. So I guess weekends are more interesting meal-wise, but not unhealthy. I think I’m going to have to try some of this xanthan gum stuff you use! And I agree with Gabriela, your clothes are always gorgeous!! I love the coral coloured dress from earlier this weekend!

Julie! I tried my my first green monster…but it didn’t look like yours at all! I had lots of green spinach chunks. What kind of blender do you use to get yours so smooth?!

I definitely eat different on weekends than weekdays. There are just always so many social activities, and usually food is a part of those. I don’t like to be nitpicky when I am enjoying food with company, so I go with the flow. And that usually means having more treats. I’m down with it. As long as I can maintain and it fits my current goals it is fine in my opinion.

I eat way worse on the weekends, especially if I go out of town :o) I also workout harder on the weekends though, so I guess it balances out 🙂
