Outside

February 27, 2011 by Julie 42 Comments

What a lovely Sunday! I spent about 90 percent of the day outside. I couldn’t get enough of the sun and the warm temperatures. It was glorious!

Ryan had a soccer game in the early afternoon and as he headed off to play, Sadie and I headed to the Downtown Orlando Farmer’s Market.

We took our time checking out the goodies and talking with some vendors, including the bakers who made the red velvet pound cake I previously purchased and loved.

After about an hour, we arrived back at home and I was ready for lunch.

Lunch

I made myself a smoked salmon sandwich on a whole wheat roll with chive and onion cream cheese.

Once I was done with my sandwich, I changed into my bathing suit and headed out to our backyard with a plate of apple slices and peanut butter to start reading The Art of Racing in the Rain.

art of racing in the rain 007I didn’t have a chance to start reading it last week and was anxious to begin. Before I knew it, several hours had passed and I was halfway through the novel! It’s a good one and I got sucked in quick.

Around 2 p.m., I received a call from Ryan that he was heading home, so I quickly ran out to the grocery store to pick up our food for the week so we could head out to the dog park right when he got back.

Dog Park

We had a great time at the dog park and I fell in love with the most adorable dachshund. It honestly looked like Sadie, but on a tiny, long body with stubby legs. The dog’s name was Charlie and I wanted to bring him home! I didn’t get a picture of him because I was already being totally creepy and following him everywhere, but he was beyond cute…

Just like this girl! Open-mouthed smile

After spending another hour or so outside at the dog park, Ryan and I headed home to relax.

Sweet Treat

We were both in the mood for something sweet, so I set out to make us a small batch of sugar cookies.

I tried to cut a recipe for old fashioned sugar cookies into quarters so we would only have a dozen cookies rather than four dozen, but I totally forgot to adjust the amount of eggs in the recipe.

Once I realized the batter was way to liquidy for cookies, I poured it into a loaf pan and baked it. In the end, our treat tasted more like shortcake, so I topped it with freshly sliced strawberries.

Not too shabby!

Time to finish up some last-minute chores before dinner. I hope you’re enjoying the rest of your weekend!

Just about every day you make me wish I lived in FL! I’m so envious of your beautiful weather.

…as for the strawberries and quasi-shortcake? Yes, please! 😉

I like your shortcake cake! Sounds good.
We reached temps of 50 degrees today and thought it was wonderful, even went running outside. And now I’m eating fro-yo topped with Fruity Pebbles. I’ve got spring fever!

I loved that you salvaged the cookie recipe by turning it into a loaf. I’ve definitely messed up the ratios when altering a quantity too! For once it was actually rather sunny here too, though the 50s definitely isn’t bating suit weather…

Ahhhh what a fabulous day you had!!! We are lucky with the weather up here in Charlotte, too. Sunny skies and highs in the 70s! I was literally outside from 11am-7pm today… had to nearly be dragged in! I went on a 12 mile run and hiked a mountain with Ryan and Happy, and just relaxed outside… ahhh it was so wonderful and days like this make me SO excited for spring and summer! So glad you had a wonderful day as well 🙂

When I read your blog, I feel like I try to live vicariously through your pictures, imagining I am in sunny, warm Florida instead of dreary, cold Michigan. Lol. Can’t wait for warmer temps 🙂 hope you are having a lovely rest of your Sunday.

It makes me feel better to see other people goof on converting measurements! I usually just write the new ones out to the side, but I inevitably skip writing one because I think to myself, “oh…that one’s easy, I got it.” Half of 1/3 I’ll get correct, but I’ll mess up 1/2 of 2 eggs 🙂

I am so glad I found your blog- thank you sparkpeople! I live in Orlando as well, and also made good use of the beautiful weekend we had.

Just wanted to stop by and say I LOVE your blog, and as I read through your tips for new runners and browse your workouts, I feel a renewed sense of commitment to my routine. Two months of Monday thru Friday 5:30am heart-exploding workouts without any results on the scale or the fitting of my clothing has me feeling pretty demoralized and unmotivated. Your blog is just what I needed to re-energize!

Btw- your pup is adorable! I love running with my husky Mila, but I worry for her with the upcoming summer… I don’t want her to overheat with that coat of hers!

I went to a dog show yesterday to try and connect with a good vizsla breeder. We ended up meeting the nicest couple who had 8 of their vizslas with them. They took each one out of its crate so we could meet them all and at one point I had four of them crawling all over me and giving me kisses. So cool! I just wanted to share that little story with you bc I figured you of all people would appreciate it!
