Polar Loop Review
Having a goal motivates me. It doesn’t have to be a big, lofty goal. Small goals add up to some pretty amazing accomplishments, right?
When I received the opportunity to try out the Polar Loop, an activity tracker that notices every jump, step and run, I was very intrigued and immediately agreed! I had a feeling it would motivate me to move more throughout the day and I was absolutely right. That is my favorite thing about the Polar Loop: It’s motivating!
I see so many people at my gym wearing fitness trackers and I’ve heard more than a few of my clients rave about them, so I couldn’t wait to set up my Loop and get moving when it arrived in the mail.
Set Up + Battery Life
A little tip: When fitting the Polar Loop to your wrist, check out the instructional How To video online.
Though directions are included, I found it much easier to watch someone go through the steps of fitting the Polar Loop to their wrist than figuring it out with the illustrations.
Once I had the Polar Loop fit to my wrist, I charged it using the USB cord that came with the Loop and set up an account on Polar.com. An important side note: The Polar Loop has great battery life and charges quickly! I figured I would need to charge it at the end of each day, but it lasts several day without needing a charge.
When I created an account on the Polar Loop site, I loved checking out the map of the world to see what people around me were doing! I zoomed in on Florida and enjoyed looking at the activities my fellow Floridians were completing.
You can also set your profile to private (which is what I did) if you’d like so no one can see what you’re doing and you can be oh-so-sneaky. Or, you can allow only certain people to see your profile by adding them as “followers” which I think is a great way to sync up with friends and family members to motivate each other to move more throughout the day.
Once the Polar Loop is set up, you can press the button on the front of the tracker to view the LED display that flips between showing you the time of day, calories burned, total steps and your daily activity goal.
Polar Flow App + Inactivity Alerts
The Polar Loop can also connect to the Polar Flow (free) app and give you real-time updates about your movement and activity levels for the day.
Here’s an example of the breakdown:
One thing I really liked about the Loop was the inactivity alerts! If you’ve been sitting for too long, an alert will let you know and that was a big motivator for me to get off my butt and walk around or move even if it was for only five minutes or so.
Adding Your Heart Rate Into The Equation
The Polar Loop does not come with a heart rate monitor so this is an added cost if you want it, but it’s a great way to get accurate data about your overall calories burned and how hard you are working at certain times during the day. The Polar Loop retails for $109.95 and the heart rate monitor is an additional fee, but even without the heart rate monitor the Loop can tell the difference between activities like sleeping, walking, running and more. It’s also safe to use in the pool!
What Trends Did I Notice?
Some days it was really easy for me to hit my activity goals. On Saturdays, Ryan and I often work out and then take Sadie for a long hike after breakfast, so meeting my activity goals on Saturdays is rather easy. (And if I incorporate running into my workouts, it’s much easier to hit my goals!) On other days when I am working from home or even days when I am personal training, it’s a little harder because I am often sitting or standing around and only walking from one place in the gym to the next.
Since my hometown is not very walkable, the best way I found for me to hit my activity goals was to increase the distance of Sadie’s walks!
So, I think it’s safe to say Sadie is the Polar Loop’s number one fan.
On days when I might be more inclined to play fetch with Sadie in the backyard, if I was under my goals on the Loop, I’d leash her up for a walk instead so she wasn’t the only one getting exercise.

I will randomly select a winner on Friday.
Good luck!
i want to know my overall activity for the day! as a fourth grade teacher, i’m quite certain i get in my 10,000 steps each day, but i’m so curious to see if i really do!!
As a teacher im on my feet the majority of the day, but I feel that i’m just standing, not really moving. I’d be so interested to know my step count for the day. The sleep tracker is awesome as well!
I would love to be alerted to move throughout the day! I try to remind myself but it can be difficult with a desk job.
I am most excited that it has the ability to track your heart rate. I currently have the fitbit flex and I love it but wish it had the ability to track my heart are for mor accuracy. This polar loop would be perfect for me!
I would love to see how much activity I get throughout the day. I love gadgets like this, so th polar loop seem like the perfect fit for me!
I’m most interested in the sleep tracking feature…as a busy college student I’m curious to see how well I’m actually sleeping!
Wow! I love these new fitness trackers that are on the market now. I’ve heard of various other products, but never the polar loop. I want to eventually get one…when I have the extra money….hmmm….I would love to see the sleep data since I can’t track that on my own, and I would love to document my exercises free from my phone !
I’d love to see my sleep stats… but I’d be nervous to see my daily steps because I know I’m way too sedentary at work, eek!
The inactivity alerts would be great. I try to get up and move during the day, but sometimes I get into my work and before I know it, a few hours have passed without me moving at all! An alert would really help with that!
I usually sit at a desk most of the day so I would benefit from the inactivity tracker. Would encourage me to go on a few 2-5 minute walks throughout the day. I also rely on the machines at the gym to tell me roughly how many calories I have burned and I understand them to be inaccurate most of the time, so the calorie tracker would be great!!
I had had an activity monitor and it was really nice being able to keep track of my activity levels, but the specific breakdowns of steps, minutes active and calories burned paired with the inactivity alerts seems to make this one much more functional. I love the idea of a kick in the butt to get up if I’ve been inactive too long!
I’m most interested in the inactivity alerts, they would be great motivation for me to get up and moving!
I would love to see more on my sleep activity!!
The inactivity reminder is crucial– I work a typical desk job and, although I try to get up and walk around often, I need the reminder to MOVE! Also I’ve been searching for an activity tracker that can also monitor my heart rate during my workouts. Polar Loop has been #1 on my list 🙂
an inactivity alert would be great for working during the day to remind me to get up and move!
I would love the inactivity alert, working at a desk job all day, it would be a great reminder to get up and walk around more. I also like the idea of the bracelets trackers; I think I would get more out of it when it is visible.
I would like to track activity. It seems harder to fight a slower metabolism or whatever it is that happens to you after 40. It’s like climbing a sand dune. 🙂

I’d have to say the alert of inactivity really peaks my interest. I sit in a cube all day so it would be nice to know when to get up and walk around. I try my best to get up but sometimes you forget!
I know, with a desk job, I probably don’t get in enough walking/movement. I think this would motivate me a lot!
The inactivity feature would be most beneficial to me. I tend to loose track of time when I’m sitting/lounging around. Perfect reminder to get up and going……
The inactivity feature is a great motivator to keep a person moving but the sleep feature would be most useful for me as I know I can improve in that area. I have two dogs that need to “investigate” during the middle of the night and I find it is hard to get back to sleep so knowing how much sleep I actually get would be awesome.
As a nursing student, I would love to get inactivity alerts so I can know when it’s time to walk up and down some flights of stairs. Even though work is usually busy, walking may not be enough activity to help me reach my goals. I love the design of the Loop too!
I’d love the inactivity alerts. I have a desk job, and sometimes it’s difficult to remember to get up and move when I’m focused on work, so those would be a great help!
I would love to know my overall activity for the day. I have a desk job so the inactivity feature would also be awesome! Thanks Julie! Love the blog!
i deffinetly want to track my sleep! i have a high stress job and know that my lack of sleep is affecting my performance and health.
Because I am clueless with all that kind of stuff
the sleeping feature! we recently adopted a new beagle puppy (also named Sadie) and she has been keeping me up at all hours, so I’m curious to know how many hours of sleep I’ve been getting compared to the norm!
I would love to be able to see my activity for the day!
I would like to know how much activity I am doing each day. I sit at a desk all day so maybe this would motivate me to move more!
The inactivity alert is definitely intriguing! I’ve never heard of anything like that before and think it would be a great reminder to not let myself get too lazy. Sometimes I just need that little extra push!
I think it would be awesome to use for the inactivity alerts! What a great motivator to get up and move!
I don’t know whether the overall activity tracker or sleep report intrigues me more… I just know I want one!
As a therapist, my job requires a lot of sitting. The inactivity alerts would give me the reminders I need to get up and move around between sessions with my clients!
Since I’m on my feet all day at work, I’d be interested in seeing my overall activity actually recorded somewhere. I’ve been curious about it for a while now!
I would love to track my activity, it would definitely make sure I was hitting my goals!
I’m really interested in the inactivity alerts! What a motivating feature! I have a desk job and hate sitting in general, so it would be good to have an excuse to get up and walk around.
I definitely need an inactivity tracker in my life…having a desk job makes me very guilty of long periods with little movement!
I love the data on sitting. I love gadgets like this.
I’m interested in the sleep data because resting is the training hardest part for me… And also I would love to know accurately the calories I burned so I can adjust my diet…
I would love to know my overall activity for the day! I work at a desk job, so I try and make sure I take walk breaks throughout the day in addition to my workout. I’d like to know if I really am getting enough activity in!
This is the first time hearing of the Polar Loop fitness tracker. I’ve been looking into the Jawbone and the FitBit but can’t quite make a decision which would be the best to try. I would love to try out the Polar Loop. Love the fact that it come with an app and has the inactivity reminder!
I am really interested to track my total daily movement and the inactivity alerts would be awesome~
Inactivity alerts! I work sitting at a desk all day
The sleep date is what I’m most interested in! I currently use a pedometer to track steps (I’m hugely motivated by numbers) and I’d love to get a more complete picture of my health!
I have a fit bit. I like it but sometimes I doubt its accuracy. I have to say I get nerdy giddiness when I’m going full force in my workout and I get the vibration on my wrist to indicate I hit my daily activity goal. I am a big fan of Polar products, so I would be most intrigued by the heart rate monitoring capabilities I also like the inactivity alerts. Outside of being able to workout at lunch time I work a desk job so the subtle reminders to get up and move around would be nice!
I like that it gives you a breakdown of which activity you would have to do for how long to reach your goal.
I’d love to know about my sleeping….or lack thereof!
Hmmm I looooove gadgets like these. The inactivity alert is really cool, especially because I do have desk job and sit way to long during the day. I also like that it shows your sleep patterns. 🙂
