Polar Loop Review
Having a goal motivates me. It doesn’t have to be a big, lofty goal. Small goals add up to some pretty amazing accomplishments, right?
When I received the opportunity to try out the Polar Loop, an activity tracker that notices every jump, step and run, I was very intrigued and immediately agreed! I had a feeling it would motivate me to move more throughout the day and I was absolutely right. That is my favorite thing about the Polar Loop: It’s motivating!
I see so many people at my gym wearing fitness trackers and I’ve heard more than a few of my clients rave about them, so I couldn’t wait to set up my Loop and get moving when it arrived in the mail.
Set Up + Battery Life
A little tip: When fitting the Polar Loop to your wrist, check out the instructional How To video online.
Though directions are included, I found it much easier to watch someone go through the steps of fitting the Polar Loop to their wrist than figuring it out with the illustrations.
Once I had the Polar Loop fit to my wrist, I charged it using the USB cord that came with the Loop and set up an account on Polar.com. An important side note: The Polar Loop has great battery life and charges quickly! I figured I would need to charge it at the end of each day, but it lasts several day without needing a charge.
When I created an account on the Polar Loop site, I loved checking out the map of the world to see what people around me were doing! I zoomed in on Florida and enjoyed looking at the activities my fellow Floridians were completing.
You can also set your profile to private (which is what I did) if you’d like so no one can see what you’re doing and you can be oh-so-sneaky. Or, you can allow only certain people to see your profile by adding them as “followers” which I think is a great way to sync up with friends and family members to motivate each other to move more throughout the day.
Once the Polar Loop is set up, you can press the button on the front of the tracker to view the LED display that flips between showing you the time of day, calories burned, total steps and your daily activity goal.
Polar Flow App + Inactivity Alerts
The Polar Loop can also connect to the Polar Flow (free) app and give you real-time updates about your movement and activity levels for the day.
Here’s an example of the breakdown:
One thing I really liked about the Loop was the inactivity alerts! If you’ve been sitting for too long, an alert will let you know and that was a big motivator for me to get off my butt and walk around or move even if it was for only five minutes or so.
Adding Your Heart Rate Into The Equation
The Polar Loop does not come with a heart rate monitor so this is an added cost if you want it, but it’s a great way to get accurate data about your overall calories burned and how hard you are working at certain times during the day. The Polar Loop retails for $109.95 and the heart rate monitor is an additional fee, but even without the heart rate monitor the Loop can tell the difference between activities like sleeping, walking, running and more. It’s also safe to use in the pool!
What Trends Did I Notice?
Some days it was really easy for me to hit my activity goals. On Saturdays, Ryan and I often work out and then take Sadie for a long hike after breakfast, so meeting my activity goals on Saturdays is rather easy. (And if I incorporate running into my workouts, it’s much easier to hit my goals!) On other days when I am working from home or even days when I am personal training, it’s a little harder because I am often sitting or standing around and only walking from one place in the gym to the next.
Since my hometown is not very walkable, the best way I found for me to hit my activity goals was to increase the distance of Sadie’s walks!
So, I think it’s safe to say Sadie is the Polar Loop’s number one fan.
On days when I might be more inclined to play fetch with Sadie in the backyard, if I was under my goals on the Loop, I’d leash her up for a walk instead so she wasn’t the only one getting exercise.

Good luck!
I’m definitely into the sleep data! Also love that it syncs with your heart rate monitor for the most accurate activity measurement possible!
I would love to see how many steps I take in a day! Since I live in Chicago, I feel like I probably walk more than the average person. I would love to see how that contributes to my daily calorie burn.
I love that it alerts you when you’ve been inactive for a certain time period!
I love the inactivity alerts because I KNOW when I am being active, but sometimes I don’t notice when I am not. Especially at work. To have something remind me to get up and move every hour would be awesome and a great excuse to push myself away from my desk!
I work out every morning but then go to work and spend 8 hours in a cubicle farm so I’d love the reminders to get off my butt and walk around!
I would love to track my sleep patterns! My sleep is all over the place and it would be nice to know exactly how much sleep I am getting!
The inactivity alerts is probably what intrigues me the most! I am sure that I would be surprised at how often I have been sitting for too long! An alert would be the perfect thing to let me know when I need get off my butt and walk around!! What an awesome product!
I would be interested to see my overall activity and how it compares to what I think my activity levels are. Moving from NYC to Boston my non workout activity has decreased (aka walking, living in a walk up)
I like that it gives you doable suggestions of activities that will help you reach your goals. If I see that I’m not reaching my goal and that a certain amount of time jogging or cleaning etc will do the trick, I would feel much more motivated to get up and do that activity, or at least a similar one!
I’d love to get alerts that tell me when I’ve been inactive. I spend a lot of time on my computer and sitting, so it’d be nice to remember to get up and MOVE!
Definitely the alerts to tell me to get moving!
I find it really difficult to compare workouts from day to day and this would be a great way to always know I am hitting my fitness goals for each workout!
the sleep data is definitely the most intriguing for me!
I would love to check out the Polar Loop! I have a desk job so I think that the inactivity alerts would be a great reminder. I try not to stay in one spot for too long but sometimes I get caught up and lose track of time. 🙂 I love reading your blog Julie! I check it everyday, twice a day!
I love the inactivity alert! Perfect way to get me away from my desk for a few minutes!
Definitely interested in the inactivity alerts. I have a job where I sit in front of my computer all day every day. It would be nice to be reminded to get up and move…hey it might even improve my productivity by giving me a fresh burst of oxygen.
I have been looking into fitness trackers for a while and I am liking what I see with the Polar loop! I also am a GF instructor and personal train but its nice to see how much activity I am getting other than those active times. I also have a Polar HR monitor and would love the ability to sync the two for the best results!
Honestly, the WHOLE thing intrigues me!! I had no idea it did so much! It sounds awesome!!!
I love the little feature that tells you activity options to meet your goal! I’ve never seen another activity tracker that does that!
I would be interested to see my overall activity logged for the day and I think the inactivity alerts would definitely be a motivation booster!
I’ve been told that I sleep walk (even though I never remember doing it), so I’d love to see what the sleep data says about me at night. 🙂 Thanks!
The inactivity alerts would help me so much during the day. I do a lot of sitting at my office job so the loop would help me to stay active. 🙂
I would love to see my daily activity tracked! This sounds so motivating!
I think it would really neat to see my activity levels throughout the day! Itt would also be a great reminder to get up and be active while sitting at my desk all day. I’m also interested in the sleep data!
My boyfriend has a similar device and it’s really cool to see his daily activity, especially after all the walking he does for his job. I’m a student and have to spend alot of the day sitting, so it would help motivate me to get up and move around more often!
since i work at a computer all day, the inactivity tracker sounds fabulous!
Alerts to make me move? I like the idea very much. I sit at a desk all day and well….sometimes it’s hours before I move out of the chair. Guess I could set a timer to go off on my desktop…but that isn’t nearly as cool as this looks.

I keep looking at the Jawbone and the Fitbit. I haven’t seen the Polar Loop. I would love to see the sleep data…I swear, some nights it feels like I am up every 5 minutes.
I really love the LCD screen on the Polar Loop! I feel as though it would be more motivating to physically see how close you are to your goals. Also, I love that it reminds you to keep moving! Often times I get too wrapped up in what I am doing and forget that I need to get up and move! I am excited to see such an awesome product out on the market!

I would love to see my overall activity in a day. I’m always so curious to know how much I’m doing beyond my daily workout!
I would be most excited to track my daily activity!
Every move? That’s awesome! I would love to know how much I move around in the day! 🙂 Also it would be great to track my runs-inside and out!
Love the inactivity alerts!!! My activity level outside of the gym varies so much, I feel like I’m constantly on my feet but would be so intrigued to find how much sitting I’m actually doing!
I love how it tracks your inactivity! As a teacher, I’m on my feet constantly for half of the day, but then, after I get home, I tend to sit down for most of the evening grading papers or even just relaxing. I would love to see how this affects my daily burn!
I have really been wanting to get some kind of tracker lately! This one looks great 🙂
I’ve been contemplating getting one of these for a while. Going back and forth between this one, fitbit or nike’s. I live in NYC area so I walk a lot in addition to my morning workouts and I always wonder what my walking does to my daily calorie burn. I also sit at a desk most of the day, so the friendly reminders to get up and walk around would be helpful (and appreciated!) 🙂
I would love to see my daily activity tracked because I enjoy getting some exersice in with more of non-traditional ways throughout the day.
I like the idea of having a goal and being able to check and see how I am doing!
I would live to track how much I move at work. I am a nurse and always running around!
I love the idea of the inactivity alerts. I could definitely use the reminder to get up from my desk once in awhile during a long day at work.
I have been using the Polar FT60 for a couple years now and LOVE it. The customer service aspect of Polar is fantastic. I would love to use the Loop to track daily activity aside from my workouts to motivate a more well-rounded day. I’m such a numbers girl, this would be such a fun toy!
I’m a college student, and honestly I have no idea how much I am moving in a day! I work out, but I also walk to everything on campus. I’m really interested in seeing how much activity I actually get in a day!
I think everything about this is SO cool! I’m especially excited about the inactivity alerts and seeing how far I am coming in meeting my daily activity goals. I loove tracking my activity so this would be so, so great.
I love the inactivity alert. I work in an office and tend to go awhile at my desk where I don’t get up. An Alert would help me to remember to take a walk and stretch my legs more!
I am interested in it all, but the sleep data is really interesting and importNt now that I have a newborn!
This is great! I have tried other fitness trackers and they didn’t work as well as I hoped. But I love my polar calorie counter watch and I think this would be great to keep me motivated too!
I think seeing how much I DON”T do will be great motivation to do more… does that make sense?
I have heard of these but never seen one. Great review! I am most intrigued by the inactivity alerts. It would be great to see what patterns emerge!
