Popular Movies You’ve Never Seen

October 22, 2012 by Julie 165 Comments

Last night, as Ryan watched football and I read a new book on the couch beside him, the fantastic smell of cheddar corn chowder simmering on the stovetop made my mouth water.

When I was in Oregon a little less than two weeks ago, I bought a ton of stuff at the Harry & David Country Village and brought it back to Ocala with me. I figured I would save a lot of my goodies for a special occasion, but last night the package of cheddar corn chowder soup mix called to me from inside the pantry.

A lazy Sunday night at home can be special too, right?

The soup came together quickly and made plenty of soup, so I reheated a bowl of it for myself to enjoy for lunch today!

I added an extra cup of frozen corn and some sliced turkey bacon to the soup mix last night and loved the additions.

Even after eating that bowl of soup, I still feel like I’m in a soup mood today. My mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup is the front-runner for tonight’s dinner at the moment!

And now for some random movie talk!

Popular Movies You’ve Never Seen

Every once in a while Ryan and I will be discussing something and he’ll make reference to a popular movie and my face will go blank.

He’ll look at me incredulously and say, dumbfounded, “You haven’t seen that movie!?”

It happened with The Matrix.

It happened with The Princess Bride.

It happened with The Goonies.

It happened with The Sandlot.

(I’ve since seen all four at Ryan’s urging.)

Most recently it happened with The Nightmare Before Christmas. We now have a hot weeknight movie date on the books for later this week so we can rectify this situation. Apparently I must see The Nightmare Before Christmas before Halloween this year.

Truth be told, I’m not really a huge movie person. I get bored really easily and unless the movie really captivates me (or I’m seeing it in the theatre), I have a hard time sitting still and watching a movie from start to finish. Only once in a blue moon do movie previews really intrigue me, so I guess I miss out on a lot of movies other people seem to love!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What’s a movie that you’ve never seen that seems to baffle other people when they find out you’ve never seen it?
  • What is a classic “must see” movie in your eyes?

My two “must see” movies: Father of the Bride and Christmas Vacation. Two of my all-time favorites!

The Princess Bride is the best! My boys love quoting the one-liners in that movie, and it’s got a LOT of great ones. My kids and husband also love the Nightmare Before Christmas, but I’m not much of a fan. Maybe you’ll like it though. Either way, “Have fun stormin’ the castle!” 😀

I have a whole list of movies but never seems like the right time to watch THAT movie. I haven’t seen “The Nightmare Before Christmas” either and someone brought it up the other day!

I’m the same way with lots of movies! My boyfriend freaked out when I said I hadn’t seen The Goonies, then he made me watch it. I feel like its just not the same when you’re an adult and I fell asleep during some part of it (which completely upset him).

I haven’t seen Bridesmaids. I feel like my list of “have NOT seen” is much longer than my “have seen” list! I’m ok with that, quality over quantity! 😉

There is something just so satisfying about soup. I make giant batches to eat throughout the week, all the time.

This is the story of my life. I am THE worst person to see a movie with. I can never sit still through an entire movie which explains why I too, have not seen “all the popular movies.” 😛

Confession time… I’ve never seen Titanic as well and it shocks people all the time when they find out! And they’re even more shocked when I tell them I don’t intend on changing that 😉 I’m not a Leo-girl at all 😉

I recently saw Hitchcock’s Psycho for the first time and actually really loved it, although I’m really not into horror movies at all and normally don’t watch any b/c I get paranoid, haha! But I really loved that one and it wasn’t scary at all imho.

Hope you like A Nightmare before Christmas, it’s one of my favourite films 🙂 And I really do recommend all of Tim Burton’s films, they’re both funny and intelligent and I really like that combination 🙂

Haven’t seen Caddyshack, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, or Christmas Vacation. My coworkers are often shocked and horrified when a movie comes up in conversation and I haven’t seen it! I really do need to catch up on all of these and then some!

A few of the Must See movies for the Fall/Christmas seasons are A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation. And my absolute must see Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. I watched this movie probably 100 times between the ages of 7 and 10!!! Now it’s a yearly movie around Halloween time!

Oh and also Space Balls… LOVE this movie! “She’s gone from suck to blow.” I quote this all the time and I think it freaks people out who have not seen the movie or know what I’m referencing (as I usually say at the most random times!)

I’ve never seen the Wizard of Oz. For some reason it always creeped me out and I never had a desire to watch it.

I’m not a big movie person so there are plenty that I haven’t seen! Including Father of the Bride, Sound of Music, The Godfather series (people get confused by this because I’m from Italy so they just assume that I’ve seen it), Lord of the Rings, and Nightmare Before Christmas.

WHAT in the world is The Princess Bride?! The whole time I was thinking you were talking about The Princess Diaries (with Anne Hathaway)!! I decided to Google it since so many people commented that their husbands/fathers/boyfriends liked it, and I just could not see WHY they’d be so interested in the Anne Hathaway movie..then found out that I actually have NO idea what The Princess Bride is! haha, I must netflix it with my boyfriend…let’s see if he’ll be added to the list of males who enjoy it.

A League Of Their Own is a FANTASTIC movie! I used to watch it with my sister all the time growing up. It’s still on TV from time to time and we both always stop what we are doing, text each other that it’s on, and watch it 🙂 and I cry everytime at various parts (especially the end) and my husband thinks its hilarious.

The Goonies! I’ve seen that movis so many times, it is one of my husband’s favorites. Actually, we’ve been to Seaside, OR about thirty times since we got married and every time we are down there we have to stop in Astoria and see the “Goonie House”
I’m like you – so out of the movie scene. People always drop their jaw when I tell them I have never seen the Wizard of Oz..my husband just shakes his head and tells them “that’s only the beginning! she hasn’t seen ANYTHING” and goes off on a list of movies I’ve never watched. It cracks me up.

I get this all the time, mostly from guys. I have never seen the matrix either. Also I haven’t seen any if the 007 movies, the Spider-Man movies, lord of the rings or the Harry Potter movies. Aside from watching about half of the original Star Wars in my 8th grade class, I have never seen any of the those movies either, much to my boyfriends dismay.

I get this about the movies all the time too. My problem is that a lot of times I can’t remember what I’ve seen and what I haven’t since most movies don’t really stick with me for longer than a week or two.

I haven’t seen Gone With the Wind though and I always shock people when I say that.
