Return of the Run

March 15, 2011 by Julie 54 Comments

I fall in and out of love with various workouts all the time. The only one that’s really stuck with me for more than a year is BodyPump because I love the way the class totally rocks my whole body every time and flies by. It’s fun, upbeat and fast-paced.

My relationship with running, on the other hand, is slightly more tumultuous. (You may read my running story here.) Like my girl Alicia Keys says, “Iiii keep on fallin’, in and out, of love, with a-you!”

When I fall out of love with running, I find it best to just take some time away from it and slowly but surely my desire to run returns.

After a few weeks off of running, this morning I awoke with the desire to run and leashed up Sadie for a nice 5-mile loop. It felt good to be outside in the crisp morning air and, with the help of my rockin’ new playlist, the run flew by!

Breakfast

After our run was complete, it was breakfast time!

Breakfast is Served

I headed into the kitchen to make my favorite breakfast bagelwich and popped a cinnamon raisin bagel thin topped with a slice of muenster cheese into the toaster oven while I sliced up a nectarine.

After smearing one side of the bagel thin with raspberry jelly, my bagelwich was ready!

Jelly + Nectarine

Portable and Yumable

Why is cheese so darn delicious?

Chomp

I also prepared a tumbler full of Yogi throat soothing tea to sip along with my breakfast because I’ve woken up with a bit of a sore throat for the past few days. The healing power of tea doesn’t mess around!

Yogi Honey Lemon

HEAL! 😀

Time to work!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I love running, but I really don’t do it often. Well, not often in the winter. Now when it gets warmer, I can’t wait to start running!
your bagelwichs are haunting me, they look so awesome!

I feel the exact same way about running! I’ve been trying to run every day to stay in shape for my wedding in June because I feel like I get the most out of a workout when I run a long distance. But I took spring break completely off (10 days!) Last night I ran 8 miles and it was a breeze! Funny how time off can refresh your body!

Now I just have to train myself to get up early in the morning to workout… 😉

I’m psyched to be done my half marathon this weekend so I don’t HAVE to run unless I feel like it! 🙂

Aren’t you so glad you didn’t sign up for yours?

I feel the same way about running. Usually after I train for a race I fall out of love with running for a few weeks before I all the sudden have the desire to run again.

I love the lavendar/pinkish color of your plate – very spring!

Most of the time I love running, but in the coldest winter months, I take it back a notch. The cold and snow are too much sometimes, and the treadmill makes me hate running. Since it’s getting warmer, I am on the love side of running!

I definitely have the same relationship with running, but I have to keep doing it because I can’t take some time off from running and then go run 5 miles out of the blue. Any suggestions as to how I can take time off, but maintain my running fitness?

I’ve been trying the opposite approach – forcing myself to run and hoping that I can fake it ’til I make it … maybe if I do it enough, I will learn to love it? I just have such negative associations with it!

I love that you can just decide you want to run 5 miles and feel fine during the run. I don’t know if my body wasn’t made for running but I have to work really hard at it, if I take time off my running, just one week, and I feel like I am starting all over again. But I just signed up for the Disney Marathon today so there’s no turning back, now I have to stick with it!

I go through the same phases with running… although I lean more towards a hate/tolerate relationship. I’ve found that it’s best to just go with how I’m feeling and not push myself to run if I’m going to hate every second. There are plenty of other workouts to do!

    Hope you feel better!

Your fruit slices (apple, nectarine) always look so perfect. Do you have a secret to slicing them up so nicely?

I’m glad you have ‘returned to the run’! I seriously need to get back in the groove of running, especially since I have my first sprint triathlon of the season in just 2 weeks!!!! This winter I joined a swim class to improve my technique and speed. I’ve found myself enjoying that so much that running fell to the side. I’ll use your return as inspiration tomorrow morning. 🙂
