Sadie Has Highlights

April 18, 2011 by Julie 101 Comments

I don’t know about you guys, but I just wasn’t feelin’ the whole work thang today. I went, I worked and I left, but I felt like I was watching the clock the entire afternoon.

When it was finally quittin’ time, and I hopped in my car and sped home, anxious to see my overly energetic dog!

Sadie greeted me with one of my socks in her mouth, wiggling all over the place to express her enthusiasm.

With that kind of a greeting, Ryan and I knew we had to do something fun with her, so we leashed her up for a walk in the late afternoon sun.

IMG_0952

Can you see Sadie is slowing getting a white muzzle? I’m in denial about any signs of aging in our little girl and call her white hairs her “highlights.” They came just in time for summer!

Dinner

Once we arrived home from our 30-minute walk, dinner was ready!

Before we walked, I sliced up four Aidells Cajun Style Andouille pork sausages and a large onion and put them in a casserole dish lined with olive oil. I then placed the dish in a 350-degree oven for about 35 minutes. until the onions were tender and the pork sausage was thoroughly cooked.

IMG_1209

The pork had a little bit of a kick to it due to the Creole spices, but wasn’t too spicy for a spice-wimp like me.

IMG_1211

We enjoyed our sausage and onions with garlic toast that I made by smearing butter on a toasted whole wheat sandwich thin before sprinkling it with garlic salt.

IMG_1215

As I was just getting ready to type up a description about how tasty my super-simple version of garlic toast was, a commercial for Pepperidge Farm’s Texas Toast came on television during a break from House Hunters and put my garlic toast to shame. I thought my toast was tasty until I saw their thick doughy bread topped with cheese, loads of butter and garlic. I feel shamed.

Are any of you guys out there fans of House Hunters? Ryan and I discovered it about a month ago and love it! I bet we’d enjoy it 5,000 times more if we were actually in the market to buy a house. All in good time.

Question of the Evening

  • What is your ideal house? Beach house? Cabin in the woods? Luxurious townhouse in the city? Tent? Igloo?

After currently living in an apartment with the world’s ugliest cabinets, all I want in a future home is a beautiful kitchen.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

    I too love house hunters!
    Most amazing dessert tonight:
Frozen banana + pb + milk in blender
Served over devils food cake mix + pumpkin ball from freezer
= the most delicious ‘brownie’ + soft serve’ ever
I thought you would be proud haha
Thanks for all the yummy and HEALTHY recipes 🙂

I’m a House Hunters fan, but Jay was just telling me yesterday, actually, that he read something interesting about the show! Apparently, when it first started, the couples that they feature already knew they’re buying the house that they “chose,” but they make it into a show episode by having them “check out” two other random houses. Apparently it’s to save time so the show can keep going with new episodes or something?? I don’t know if that’s still the case, or if it was even real, but I found it rather interesting…and a bummer if it’s true!

Okay Julie! I need you to help me convince my fiance that we NEED a little Sadie. We really want a vizsla puppy and Johnny is worried if we get one it will go stir-crazy all day while we are at work. What do you think? If we go on a long walk-run in the am and pm? Do-able? Also, if all goes according to plan and I do convince him…perhaps I could find out more info about how you got sweet Sadie…breeders, etc!

Thats how I make garlic bread too!! Except I put mine under the broiler for a minute or 2 after spreading the butter and garlic salt on it. Makes it more like garlic toast! It is so good that way! You should try it!

sooo addicted to house hunters! my husband and i joke that we now know what to do to get our house sold eventually because we watch so many of those type of shows! i’m so grateful that we live in such a relatively cheap market and were able to get a really inexpensive house.

I wasn’t feeling work today either.

I just blogged about Property Virgins because it’s just as addictive as House Hunters to me. I watch it at the gym and it keeps me on my cardio machine longer than I originally set out to be on it! 🙂 I can’t wait to get a house that I pick out because the one my husband and I currently live in is one he picked out and it’s not female friendly (small kitchen).

We love house hunters! It’s always a go-to show when nothing else is on. Property Virgins is also good and I like My First Home too! 🙂

My dream house is for sure a big home out in the middle of nowhere on a lake with boats, but still close enough to a city for all of the fun!

we’re in denial about toby aging too! he was found on the side of the road so we’re not sure of his age and we err on the side of him being younger. I like to attribute the white around his muzzle to him drinking a lot of water— drains the color right out of his fur….denial is helpful 🙂

I’m at both ends of the spectrum! I would love to live in a penthouse in a city initially but when my then-to-be husband and I retire, it would be cosy to live in a cottage in a little town.

My dream home isn’t huge, just a comfortable size that is spacious for my future family, and it must be “cozy.” I would love a spacious, private backyard and a big front porch to enjoy a lot of time outside!

For my dream house, the #1 importance is living by the ocean. RIGHT on the beach would be perfect, in a dream world 🙂 A close second is (like you), a HUGE kitchen with tons of counter top space and very easily organized. We rarely eat out, so having a functioning kitchen is key to wanting to cook at home all the time.

My parents dog is starting to get gray like that too. Whenever I see her, it gets more and more (I live a 12 hour flight away from my parents), and I pretend I don’t notice. I don’t want to admit she’s getting old 🙁

Peppridge Farm Texas toast is pretty amazing, but I’m guessing your sandwich thin version was not only a gazillion times healthier, but more satisfying and just as tasty!

My dream home is one perched on a hill or cliff looking out over the ocean. Waking up to the sound of waves and a breathtaking view each morning would be so serene, yet very invigorating!

The sausages look really yummy. You have to try them the way my dad always prepares “Baurenbratwürstle”, a german version of a smoked pork sausage:
    – cut it in chunks (about 2 cm long) , cut 1-2 onions in chunks (about the size you did it).
    – fry the sausage, put it aside
    – saute the onion pieces
    – put the sausage back into the pan and add a flavourful red wine (f.ex. a nero d’avola) and let it simmer until the alcohol is gone
    serve with italian bread….

I love House Hunters, and really anything on HGTV!! Love dreaming about buying my own house soon.

My dream house would be something very rural (and if we’re talking about dreaming, I’d be able to teleport to the city for commuting haha). It’d have a huge yard, where animals could roam, and I could put in a hot tub and fire pit. The actual house itself wouldn’t have to be too big, but it’d have floor to ceiling windows on the second floor in the back, where I’d have a workout room so I could enjoy a nice view while I work out. In reality, I’ll have some of those things, but probably not all!

Awww….my Audrey is prematurely gray, too! She has a sprinkling on the top of her head (looks like she got dusted in flour), but she’s only 3. It looks a lot cuter on her than it does on me…

And I LOVE House Hunters! I would give up cable if it weren’t for HGTV. I find it fascinating to see what homes are worth in different parts of the country, and what people are looking for when they buy. And as a New Yorker, I love when they do NYC-based episodes. You can tell they have a hard time squeezing the buyer, the RE agent, and the camera crew in the apartment at the same time!

AAHH seeing the signs of aging or change in your pup is never fun because it means they are growing up. Your Sadie girl looks super sweet and I know my Sadie girl would love her! My Sadie had a white spot on her nose for the longest time, not any more. Her nose is now completely black!

Your bread looks great and I may actually try it with the steaks we are having some time this week.

As far as House Hunters my hubs and I are IN LOVE with all of those shows. We quickly dial in the HGTV chanel on the TV at night. House Hunters, House Hunter International, Property Virgins, you name it we watch the show.

I actually have 3 dream homes. One would be a penthouse close to Central Park. The Plaza would be a perfect location. To bad the penthouse sold for around 10 million a few years back. My other dream house would be a beach bungalo in Negril, Jamaica. I would love if if the home was attached to a Couples Resort, but thats not possible. And, my actual REAL dream house. Is somewhere on the outskirts of my hometown here in SC. It would sit on about 2 acres of land, have a sprawling front porch and curtains the blow in the breeze. There would be a large swing set for my future kids and a huge pool for the summer time. The kitchen would be amazing with granite counters and a large farm sink. Think Pottery Barn meets Southern Living and thats my dream house!

I know this was years ago but, I just discovered your blog because I searched for “Vizsla in a puffy coat” and saw a photo of Sadie. My husband and I have a 7 year old Vizsla named Ruby Tuesday. She’s small so we refer to her as a teacup vizsla. She is the sweetest little thieving hairy baby ever. I never wanted to hurt her feelings or my own regarding her hair color change so, until a few weeks ago, she had highlights…now, she has sugar face and that makes me smile every time I think or say it. 🙂
