During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I track my water intake using the Fitbit app. I find that having the visual goal throughout my day really helps push me to drink more water.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I use an app called Waterlogged. Honestly, it totally changed how much water I drink. I got pregnant around the same time as you, and I knew I needed to be better about drinking water. I went from drinking like 1-2 glasses a day (I know…) to drinking around 100 ounces a day now. I just log it each time I finish a glass of water. You can set daily goals, and you can save your own glasses or water bottles in it so you don’t have to enter an amount each time. So simple, but so helpful for me!
I have a large water bottle that I try to refill three times a day! It used to be a struggle, but is now a habit that I just automatically do every day. I also like to add water flavor shot to change things up a bit.
I make sure to keep my tumbler filled with water all day at work!
Hi Julie! To stay hydrated during the colder months, I try to drink lemon water. Sometimes, I switch it up and make hot lemon water for myself first thing in the morning. The lemons always add a refreshing zing and I feel like I’m doing something good for my body.
I have Four 24 ounce bottles I fill and keep in my refrigerator to start the day and I drink all 4 of them, plus hopefully additional liquid (coffee, sparkling water at lunch, etc) to total over 100 ounces a day. Getting through each bottle ensures me I’m drinking enough and I feel healthier and more balanced when I drink 100+ ounces a day. I also run an average of 55-60 miles a week and I’m currently 4 months pregnant with my 2nd, so I know how extremely important it is to stayed hydrated!
Hi Julie! The best thing I did to help myself stay hydrated is carry cute water bottles! If I think something looks cute, then I am more likely to want to carry it around with me. And, like you, if I just have a water bottle in front of my while I’m in class or doing homework, I am more likely to mindlessly drink it! Also, I hope you are having a great time on vacation!
I drink room temperature water at all times – it’s much easier to drink a ton of water when you don’t have that “ice cream headache” feeling from drinking cold beverages. This helps me stay hydrated. Love the idea of the new fruit infused water, because it can be a hassle or time consuming to make it on your own!
I have a large mug (actually the one I received from the hospital my daughter was born at) and (with a Sharpie) I wrote 8AM, 10AM, 12PM. . . etc. and make sure that by whatever time it is, that I have drank to that line! It’s really helped me! I am pregnant again, and its been a handy reminder to hydrate!
Pregnant with #2 – I try to always leave my house with a full water bottle in hand!
I use a tip I think came from you! I mark my water bottle in time right next to the ounces. That way I know that at 10 am for example I should have had a certain amount of water.
I bought a cute water bottle and carry it with me to class. I find myself mindlessly drinking during long lectures, which is great because it keeps me hydrated!!
Keeping a 32oz reusbale water bottle at my desk is key!
I use MyFitnessPal to keep track of how much water I drink. That way, if I drink water from a glass (ounces) or my water bottle (mL), I can convert and keep trap of my total water consumption for the day. It helped a lot at first to visually see how much I was drinking, and how much more I should be drinking!
I put a water bottle in every level of the house to have quick and easy access!
I always keep a water bottle with me!
I love sparkling water like La Croix and Polar. They are so refreshing, and the variety of flavors makes it easier to drink several glasses throughout the day!
My best tip is to have multiple water bottles. I keep one at my desk, in my car, on my bedstand, and of course, one is always cooling in the fridge. No excuses 🙂
I always keep my nalgene with me and try to drink one before lunch and one after!
TERVIS!!! I live by them. I have a large 24oz Gators Tervis that I keep at my desk and I also have a few varieties at home. I love being able to put ice water in my cup at work. I do not have a straw and lid on any of mine though…so I am feeling an Amazon purchase in the near future!
Hope you are enjoying vacation!
I drink a lot of herbal tea. It’s a good way to stay full between meals and a keep you hydrated all day. Also, sipping tea all day keeps me calm and focused at work.
Btw, that infuser pitcher looks awesome!
I like to use a big camelbak waterbottle to keep me hydrated! That and buying enormous (2L) bottles of seltzer water that I guzzle down all day!
I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and have the same problem staying hydrated during the day. Keeping ice in my water bottle seems to help a little! Thanks for the suggestions!
As a dancer, I’m constantly drinking water. When I’m on breaks or am not dancing, I love adding sliced lemons or cucumbers to my water to give it a subtle freshness and I love the way it makes my body feel!
I bring my own water bottle and make sure to fill it up at least 3 times before I leave work.
Yes, yes, yes to straws! Cute cups help as well!
I have a 24 oz tumbler that I try to refill 3 times throughout the day. I also try to add in a splash of cranberry juice or mix it up with some seltzer water to keep me from getting bored.
I have a water bottle that I take everywhere!
I use a water bottle that has times on it to keep me hydrated all day long! I used to drink a ton in the morning and think it was alright, but I’d get dehydrated on my afternoon runs. This has helped me stay balanced in my water intake.
I am very goal oriented. So I set goals for the day and always have water bottles available to help reach this goal. Usually by lunch time I try to drink one to two water bottles, by the after noon 2 more and and dinner time two more. So I’ve drank almost 6 throughout the day. Also I try to always drink half a glass before eating a meal!
I stay hydrated by pacing myself during the day. I try to drink 24 oz before lunch, again after lunch, and again in the evening. I also add lemon juice to my water for some flava!
I leave a cup of water out on the counter at all times – then it’s never cold and it always reminds me I’m thirsty.
I have to admit, I’m pretty bad at staying hydrated. I try to grab bottles of water when they’re around, but I think my main goal for the fall is to get a water bottle and carry it with me all day. This way I can hydrate all day long!
I love to drink water…and I really don’t get bored doing so. But what I LOVE to do (because I have an addiction) is change my drinking cups. Whether it’s a new Tervis mug or a water bottle from Sbux…I change it up! It makes me feel like I’m drinking something new all the time!!!!
I tend to drink a lot of herbal tea in the winter…my office is always FREEZING, so makes it so much harder to drink water!
I carry my water bottle EVERY WHERE!
Hi Julie!
To stay hydrated I mix things up with vitamin water zero! The yummy taste makes me want to drink it.
I just drink small amounts of water throughout the day.

I stay hydrated by racing to see how much I can drink before lunch. If I drink all my water before lunch then I can have something different to drink in the afternoon.
I have a tumbler at work that I try to fill up three times a day! 🙂
Hi, my name is Alyssa! I struggle with staying hydrated all the time, especially being in veterinary medical school-its hard to remember to keep drinking water throughout the day. One thing I do to remember to stay hydrated is to put a rubber-band on my water bottle each time I finish a whole bottle, then at the end of the day I know how I did throughout the day.
I love writing notes, so I’ll write down and add up the # of ounces I’ve had each day. This definitely helps me get back on track when I’ve become lax in my water-drinking habits!
straws are a game changer for me!
I definitely keep a water bottle or tumbler in front of me or with me in the car at all times. I find that if I don’t have one I drink less water. This is easy while I’m at work but I have to remind myself during the weekends to get out a tumbler and fill it with water.
Always keep a bottle of water at my desk and refill regularly through the day!
When I go out to eat at a restaurant, I ask the waiter for two glasses of water. That way, I have a visual cue reminding me to drink lots of water!
One thing I do to stay hydrated is I have a “fun” Peanuts themed water bottle at my workplace that is clear. It helps me judge how much water I’ve already drank for the day and encourages me to drink more.
I have a quart size bottle at my desk. I aim for one of those before lunch and one more before I leave for the day. I choose flavored water for lunch, and at home. By the end of the day I’ve gotten in my three quarts! I would love to try the OceanSpray Pac Water!
I always drink 16 oz. of water when I wake up, and while I’m at work, I also refill my water bottle every time I get up to use the restroom. Since I’m pregnant right now – this happens a lot!
I have a 24 oz plastic lidded cup from Starbucks that I keep at my desk at work and I just keep filling that up with water with a goal of drinking 3 full ones at work and at least one more at home.
